2nd on this from experience. Rust comes right off of blued firearms with no damage to the bluing. I bet it will work great on that patina finish as well.

I’m on the fence on going thru this or not.  I have a unique request, they claim they’ll do anything you can think of, well I want a milled Scottsdale from the 1995 remake, then fitted to me.  That head to me is the best iteration of the Anser and is pretty much the 009 SC.  I’m waiting to hear back from them if they’ll do this.

Couldn’t you get a remake and send it in to the wrx department for weights to make it modern weight , could be a backup plan

Seeing this really makes me wish I went with a Tyne in a plumbers neck. Every one I’ve seen just looks so dang sweet and the patina on yours is perfect. 
 

Only went DS72 because I have an OTR Prime TYNE PLD. Made send to get a head I didn’t have.

That sounds to me like you should just buy a 50th anniversary Anser. Same shape, modern weight with the tungsten plugs and ~1/2 to 1/3rd the price of a custom PLD.  Here is a comparison photo of the 30th and 50th from my collection.

Looks like Ping is quietly trying to discourage the upgrading of older putters. Tungsten plug prices have went up substantially!

That's been the price for a couple of years now.  Add in sight lines/dot ($90), sound slot ($90), paint fill ($90), milling ($90), plus the cost of the putter itself, you're looking at about $1000 give or take.  It'd be much more satisfying to have one fit specifically to you than to go through all that and *maybe* think it's what you want and/or need.

Finally took some photos of my PLD Kushin. Impact off the face sounds and feels just right. Only a few indoor putts so far but the balance also feels just like I like. The green pepper on the hosel is the same as what they put on the cover. I had them do that as a “signature” of sorts from the artist who made it.

Yes could do that…..they’re hard to add weights too, could wreck the whole putter in drilling.

Nope nice putter but a Never Compromise is not it. I know people are trying to be helpful, but I’ve never fully understood a response to someone saying I want this, well how about trying this instead. Kind of like I want an Apple, well here is a Banana it is a fruit too.

It was my attempt to be helpful when he is going to ask for something that PING will not do. That 50th is exactly what he wants except it's MgBr instead of stainless and can be had for $500.

 

PING is willing to do a lot with the blank heads they already have (adding weight, fun engravings, paint colors. lines/dots/initials, different necks, faces, shafts, etc...), but they're not milling you a one-of-one custom head shape. If you want that level of customization, you're looking at boutique/bespoke makers only. 🤷‍♂️

Youre right about it being hard to tell. It’s actually gold, same as the text and pineapple body on the other surfaces. The gold came out even better than I was hoping.

Good catch--looks like they did bump the price up $200. Congrats to all those beauties who got one at $1290! lol

 

I'm considering one in the near future & while of course I'd rather pay less... I can't say an extra $200 moves the needle in any way. Still looks like an incredible service that is only expanding its range of options.

$1490 is getting a little steep. I should have jumped on it when it was $200 cheaper. Only way I’d pay that much is if I could make it down to Ping HQ and get fitted in person.  I’d want to test out the putters on an actual green to see exactly what works best.  Hard to determine what alignment aid, face milling and shape of head works or looks best to your eye with a virtual fitting. For $1490, I’d rather go get a SAM or Quintic fitting and use those specs to have a putter made that allows for more customization and saves me $400-500.  Curious why they are raising the price.  Too high demand?

That new price makes a PLD for me a $2000 Canadian putter, that's almost a set of new Ping irons up here 😞 It's still something I think I'd do if I had that extra cash to spend but that putter would have to be the one I roll more than anything else but seems like most are doing that.

I had a feeling this was bound to happen. Was hoping to try to get one done before though. The extra $200 shouldn’t be a deal breaker all things considered, but it does make me think harder about pulling the trigger. @jeff1727brings up a good point about being able to do full custom with that price point. I’d also agree that I’d lean more towards an in person fitting as well now.

Question to those who went Patina finish...

 

Do you feel it looks better with a normal Chrome shaft or the Black Chrome?  (Went double bend so Matte Black isn't an option).

It's not really surprising they have raised their prices.  No shortage of clients lining up at $1290. Many people will still line up to do the same for $1490.

 

For this price...you can get a fitting, 5 lessons, and a good quality custom putter.

Yeah, I'll admit--I was poking around at some of the other custom putter threads last night... wow, some of those MannKrafted designs are really, really nice...

 

I still love the glazed donut finish though! lol

MannKrafted is amazing. Great guy, small shop. I was torn between going with him and doing the PLD program. Ultimately it came down to I did not know exactly what I wanted and the in-depth fitting Ping gave me was exactly what I was looking for.  In the future, definitely going to consider him once the new club itch strikes. 

Still patiently waiting for my update from my fitting last month though 😬

I have a couple of both….both are amazing.

Lamont is an amazing craftsman.

Is $1500 expensive?  Yes.  However, Cameron sells generic circle Ts that aren’t built to spec for $4000.  The Ping is still a much better value.  Plus you get a professional level fitting.
