Ping PLD Custom Program

Feel wise I basically got a smooth face the AMP milling is basically for show on mine. It's crispy, responsive with plenty of feedback. I love that all around on the course and it does sound softer outside vs inside.

 

Truth be told the Anser 4 would have been my choice if the Anser 4K didn't exist or wasn't an option for me. But just something about a Tri-Sole Anser shape with a flow neck gets the juices flowing. 

 

So I'm sure the specs were correct for me and when everything is settled and the grass is green again I'll have a flatstick out there I'm more than confident in.

 

I'll update everyone with Ping's resolution once I get word of what's going on. 

My guess is that you might get two putters out of this, which would be quite a pleasing outcome!!

There's plenty of stories of guys paying more and getting the wrong putter and being ghosted by the maker or just straight up never getting a putter so I'm not doing too badly. 

 

I still think I had the Tour experience, definitely have to think mistakes happened with tour guys they just can get it fixed right away.

Plenty of them, Olson has a bunch of stories. Lamb has done this too I talked to someone last week about this. 

 

More recently here Compass Putters, Xenon putter here has a thread for bad experiences. Machine putters in Texas also has stories on this, Low Tide putters has done it twice and I'm sure many more that are not know of. I just listed 6 different brands.

 

But here's the thing Ping responded to me an hour after I sent them an email on Friday night saying they'll get this fixed. I had some Ping staffers say it will get fixed or they can help me out. 

 

I'm not worried about my putter being fixed cause it will be. The initial disappointment and anger are gone and I'll see how they'll handle this.

Lamb? Never heard that..he usually doesn’t allow you to order (even in the inner circle) you can give him guidelines but you get what he makes when it’s your turn

and I’m sorry the pld thing was messed up that sucks so bad..but honestly I could care less ha I just haven’t heard of 2k putters being wrong and people ghosted.

Really doesn't matter with the price plus it was 2K Canadian which isn't 2K USD. But money paid should end up getting what you asked for.

I know like 5 guys like that with lamb..that’s like the deal with lamb and everyone I know accepts it and they are real upfront

The head I tested on was a raw tour truck head meant to be made up and finished for whoever on tour.

 

As for other heads didn't really see anything was in the PLD production area, they probably have a few here and there. 

 

If they just grab that tour head and finish it for me then awesome if not and I jump to the front also fine.

 

Have like 3 months until I can golf, I'll just roll the putter I got until then.

Does it suck there was a screw up ?  Yah for sure. 
 

But mistakes can happen and until I hear resolution I’m not gonna talk crap about ping. They already got it going on and I’d be surprised if the didn’t make sure you were happy at the end.

I know this isn't my first mess up from golf brands both big or small, gear or apparel it happens. I know mistakes happen, we're human I make them too. 

 

If people were perfect they'd be on tour or billionaire not on WRX with the rest of us. 

 

I'm sure I'll hear back from Ping tomorrow or Tuesday with what they want to do. I mean you've heard stories here of Ping telling people to send back putters for paint or finish that just wasn't perfect. They won't go "uh close enough". 

 

Plus no lie the Anser 4 is kinda nice but Ping doesn't need to hear that 😂

Well I actually tested the other one and fitting numbers were very high so this not sure if as good or better but probably close. 

 

It's also the uniqueness and rarity of the other one I tested, gotta brag to randoms on the internet somehow lol. 

 

But I'm gonna be fully transparent and open with this process because I think it's one of the best for putter fittings right now.

Would be the first lefty in that specific shape that's not tour or prototype.

Have an update, so we confirmed my build sheet yes what was made was wrong. New one is being milled and bumped up to front of the line, they have no idea what happened but will make sure this one is correct. I hope if not they mill it again but it's just a putter not surgery. 

 

I did ask about the one I got and rep said that Ping will take it back after I get the new one and just use the putter in testing, R&D, fitting putter, or sadly destruction. Maybe I'll take it fishing and say it fell off a boat.

Did you ask about the black PLD headcover as well? I'm having a major internal battle with my design haha. I can't decide if I want to go Stainless Satin on an Anser 30 with black fill, or Carbon Patina with white fill. I am just trying to justify either ordering something that isn't insanely unique to OTR models, or go with something you literally can't get anywhere else haha. Glad to hear your situation is looking up!

Man, I really just loved the AZ patch on the side and how it was specific to the program, but a white topo is cool too, especially that one on the left without the rectangle up top. I have a sweet waxed canvas/leather cover on my blade currently and may keep it in the bag based on the Ping offerings.

 

I play raw wedges and love the rust so i'm leaning that way, especially after scrolling through every page of this thread haha. Lots of beautiful putters, and the closest i've found to what i'm looking at is Cameron Champ's longneck Anser Proto (I assume a 30) that has been in his bag off and on over the years. I may ask what the fitters preference is on the face milling as well as I tend to play a harder ball like a prov1x or vice pro plus. Deep milled carbon would feel buttery I assume.

Face milling they will say is a big personal preference for what you like sound and feedback. For mine we spent maybe 10min just on that alone outside trying basically anything on hand. For me it was between Shallow AMP and Smooth face.

 

As noted I ended up with a prototype milling which actually sits between those 2, basically smooth feel with the look of a milling on it. 

 

Deep Milled Carbon will feel the same as the stock PLD Milled.

I figured Ping would want the incorrectly made one back and send a call tag for it with the new putter.    Letting someone walk with 4k in putters for 2k even if it's their issue isn't very common.

Figured that as well but I've hoped for more crazy things in life. I'll just drop it off at Ping Canada which isn't far from me, they said I could leave it at a local golf shop with a Ping account but that's how putters can grow legs.

Last update until I get my new putter, a higher up from Ping wanted to have a call with me which we did. They apologized about the situation and how it should have never left Ping. They said my putter is gonna be milled ASAP and offered a resolution for this situation which all sides were happy with in the end.

 

The putter I currently have will be returned to Ping once the correct one arrives. The gentleman I spoke with and my fitter said they will be checking on my putter constantly to make sure there are no issues cause if there are they'll be even more upset than I am.

 

So that was an entertaining 2 pages, who else has a PLD coming?

If you do a fitting, they'll go through the face milling and they have plenty on hand for you to try out. Same with the finishes. Lots of putters getting made who's pics don't make this thread. I've seem a few pretty unique PLDs that just looked so good with the letter coloring, engrave, finish, and shaft combo. I've always liked the raw finish, but it's such a hard choice when you see everything that is available.

Fair enough.  IMO they should have given you the option of buying the first/wrong one at a discount as it has your stampings etc. on it.  But if you're happy then all good.
