Scotland Restaurant/Pub Recommendations

Leaving in 4 weeks to finally head to Scotland (Cancelled 2 years in a row due to COVID).  Was wondering if anyone had any restaurant/pub recommendations.  We are spending a week in Fife a block from the tee at TOC and then half a week in Glasgow.  My group of 4 are all in our low 30's so we would prefer casual places with a little bit of life to them over upscale fine dining.  It is our first trip so not really sure what options are available.  Thanks in advance

Little Italy or Lupo’s for Italian

Steak Barn

Hams Hame for traditional Scottish

Haven’t spent a ton of time in Glasgow, but there’s a great hole in the wall Italian place called Amarone. Outside of Italy, it’s the best Italian food I’ve ever had….

When you are in Glasgow try Chateau X. It only does Chateaubriand and is reasonably priced.

 

Also Meat is a decent burger place.

you might like to try those “Deep Fried Mars Bars” 🍫 from the local chippies 🐠 🍟 

(can really only do it in your 20s/30s… any older & it could be a heart-attack risk!) 🚫🤬

When you're in Fife, if you are playing Kingsbarns, Crail or Elie you'll be near the little village of Anstruther. It's a cute fishing village with some great fish & chips shops. It's worth a vist for lunch if in that area.

So excited for you. Concur on Ansthruther, was my favorite fish and chips and made a special drive out just to have it a third time. Personally in town, I liked Cromars a lot more than Tail End, but seems people love Tail End. 
 

Best spot for hearty, hot, filling food after a cold rainy long day was Jahangir, in Indian place. I’m not an expert but they steered me right each time. 
 

i was warned as an American not to bother with steak in Scotland, and from what I saw, I was glad I stayed away. But what I did like were meat pies and steak pies when I saw them on menus. Think chicken pot pie but with beef. 
 

My pub experience was minimal since I traveled alone and wasn’t really drinking for health reasons. I’d say at least one drink in the Dunvegan but keep expectations low. Jigger Inn has a low key vibe when I was there, just ignore the fact it’s now a hotel bar. The most “authentic” pub experience I had was at the Keys Bar. I think you’ll just walk around and find a place that looks your speed and pop in. Seems like the perfect place for a bit of a crawl and see where suits you, it’s such a walkable town you can just wander and find a spot. 
 

Two places I did a quick grab and go were breakfast at Munch (super cheap breakfast sandwich “rolls” literally a sausage/bacon on a roll. I was a fan of black pudding/well done fried egg). And late night grub was St Andrews Shawarma House for kebab and rice or fries, etc.

 

Darn, just when I thought my Oct trip was a distant memory, I start writing this and it’s like I’m right back, I can picture myself walking the streets, hunting for food, taste my garlic curry at Jahangir, wander around just soaking it all in. I’m so jealous. I hope you have a fantastic trip.
