Arccos & Apple Watch

I'm a big fan of Arccos and have the Link which has worked decently well. Lately, I started using my Apple Watch 7 as the "tracker" and it has been nothing short of terrible. Holes don't get finished, shots are missed, the Watch doesn't seem to be talking to the phone app regularly etc.. Wondering if someone has had a similar experience or knows any way to trouble shoot this.

In my setup I use the link as the reliable source of tracking and just launch the watch app as my handy way of telling me estimated distances (while leaving the phone permanently in the cart). Overall I think is the most reliable approach, however sometimes after link is setup and tracking location the apple watch app sometimes fails to launch (feels like an apple watch bug).

i tried it a couple years ago when the apple watch first became available as a tracker for the arccos sensors and experienced the same things you did. I recently tried to give it another shot earlier this month, it seemed to pickup everything but, my watch died halfway through the round even at a full charge (m watch is a 5 series and i've had it for awhile, though). I'm going to stick with my phone unless i get a link at some point but I don't plan on ever using my watch again

I used to have it and had it working well with my watch.
I only changed one thing in the watch set up to get it working well.   Find in settings the time the watch stays on an app before returning the the watch screen, set that time to an hour and see if you don’t get better results.

+1 on this approach and exactly how I use mine.  As far as the app not launching or loading I’ve found if I restart the phone and/or watch things start to work again.

Dang, I just ordered the free sensors to try them out with the apple watch. Not super interested in buying the link and having a monthly subscription if the watch doesn't work very well.

I just completed my Arccos trial (with free sensors through TaylorMade) and I'm giving up. I tried three rounds using the Apple Watch only after setting up successfully. Arccos missed so many shots that I spent 20 minutes each time going back through to correct them. I contacted Arccos and they extended my trial to see if I could resolve the issue by re-pairing the sensors and reinstalling the app. Sadly, this did not fix the problem.

I did play 9 holes with the phone only and found that it worked much better (though not perfect). However, I'm just not comfortable carrying my iPhone in my pocket throughout a round. I suppose the only option is to buy the Link, but I'm not interested in dropping $130 on it along with the subscription fee. My initial excitement was largely due to the Apple Watch support.

I have TheGrint app that I use to track rounds and my handicap. It now has advanced scoring so you can mark some stats (tee shot direction, FIR, GIR, etc.) Given how well it works with Apple Watch, I think I will stick with that for now. I may revisit Arccos in the future now that I have the sensors, but we'll see!

I too migrated off Arccos and on to TheGrint but I am an Android guy so using TheGrint on my watch isnt an option, unfortunately. If I could, it would solve a lot of my issues.

I like golf. A lot.

I have used Arccos for a while now and generally am a fan, but agree about the Apple Watch.  I am considering buying the Link so I don't have to have my phone in my pocket, but if I do that how will I get distances?

I didnt have an Apple Watch when using Arccos, but wouldnt you just use the Apple Watch for distances but use the Link for shot tracking? You would just need to be within bluetooth range for the Apple Watch and phone to stay connected.

I have the Apple Watch. Use it for distances mostly. I just keep my phone in my pocket. Don’t even notice it. Works great

New adoptee for Gen 3 sensors and using an Apple watch. We played 18 yesterday and frankly, I’m underwhelmed. Missed shots, heck, missed HOLES! Top that with it killed my watch battery in a mere three hours, walked off 18 with 8% battery with a freshly charged watch when starting.  I’ll tinker with phone and watch settings, but at this junction I don't have faith it'll do much better.

Thanks for the insight! I was wondering if the new sensors would make a difference, but it sounds like the improvement is marginal for us Apple Watch users.

FWIW, I used TheGrint + Apple Watch for my round on Saturday with basic tracking and I got FIRs, GIRs, and # of putts with ease. I felt relieved not having to check Arccos every 3 holes to verify shots.

I’ve been a paying Grint user for two years now.  It was worth renewing subscription.

Received a set of Arcoss sensors a couple of years back for free from Ping.  Actually cost me $20 for shipping.  In any case, my goal was to use them with my Apple Watch 3.  Played a several rounds with them.  If I remember correctly, they only detected less than a dozen shots.  Took them off my clubs and threw them in the dumpster.  Just got a Shot Scope version 3.  Hope it works better.

I am going through the trial right now. I recently purchased a new apple watch series 7 and using the newest iphone 13 pro so probably the best battery life and capabilities as far as tech goes. Got the free sensors from Arccos and doing the 45 day trial. Pairing the sensors wasn't fun and had to do it about 6 or so times before I got them all paired correctly. First round went okay. Second round I didn't realize until hole 2 it wasn't picking up any shots. I started manually inputting the shots and said screw it and swapped back to golfshot for that round. Last weekend i searched through their faq and found that you can't have sleeves over or touching your apple watch because it uses the microphone. I was extra careful about that and last weekend's round and it picked up almost all my shots except one or two small punch shots and a few tap in putts. Based on last round I think I am going to stick with it but not that happy about the steep annual price.

My battery after the round was 28 or 38% ( i don't remember exactly). I was thinking of playing a second 18 but it didn't end up happening, probably wouldn't have lasted another 18.

I do appreciate the reality check that i get looking back at my shots. I realize how few times I use most of my clubs in a round an how infrequently I pure them and what distances I get vs how far I can hit each club in my mind. Getting new irons soon so will most likely have to start the process over again.

This thread is killing me!  I searched the forum for Arccos this week and it returned only a couple threads.  Wish I'd found this one sooner.

I bought an Apple Watch this week - had been planning on it for while but the combining will Arccos convinced me to pull the trigger.  Just order Arccos Grips this morning thinking it would be the perfect combo and I could avoid the Link or a phone in my pocket.  Drat!

I'll update with results in a few weeks, hoping they've had some updates to the app since May to improve performance.

I have an Apple Watch 7 and arccos gen 2, the only issues I get are occasionally it will overcount wedges/putts when I’m carrying multiple clubs greenside. Sometimes it has issues counting putts (missed or extra).

I keep a paper scorecard and track shots around the green and putt distances manually in addition to overall score. I’ll adjust stuff manually in the phone app afterwards. Usually takes 2-5 min.

battery life is usually about 50-60% after a full charge. Overall I like the watch mostly for solo rounds when I can have music playing through AirPods or the phone speaker.

I have the Apple Watch but use the link to record shots.

I had an issue with the microphone turning off during rounds and therefore missing shots. You can pause the round and then restart which enables the microphone again though found this too much of a hassle.

the link works well for me though still get occasional missed shot but that’s easily rectified post round.

Anyone try the Link? I think after it disconnecting for the 3rd different round I’m done with it. I’m going to try to use the phone in my pocket only before I give up on Arcoss all together.

Currently use the Link - love it. Maybe one or two added shots in when carrying a wedge close to green. Watch is pointless like many have stated.  Will never try that again.

Yep, that is the best way to use Arccos IMHO.  Use link for the shot tracking & capturing pin locations.  I then use my Apple watch for for the front/middle/back distances.  I keep my phone in the cart and enter my scores here along with number of putts.

How long are your rounds? I have a Series 6 and 7 and never had an issue even on 5 hour rounds

I just ordered my free sensors with Cobra. I do not have an apple watch and was gonna just use my phone. Atleast they giving a 45 day free trial, that way I don't have to pay a Subscription fee if I don't like it. One thing I'm confused about, is the Subscription just for the link or do you have to pay it using phone as well?
