I dont think he will tee it up at Southern Hills.  Do you think he plays any tour events this year?

the PGA of America wants its reigning champ to defend, I dont think they have a beef with him...

and FWIW there are Futures Bets on him albeit +8000 according to vegas insider, on the PGA Championship

I hope he plays

If he's been suspended by the PGA Tour I would bet money the PGA of America will honor that suspension. Just as they would honor a suspension given by the Euro Tour. But in typical golf fashion they will tell Phil he can't play and he will announce he has made the "choice" to not play and they will agree it was his "choice."

Honestly, the longer he goes without playing the less I care about whether or not he plays again.

Aside from the media constantly making it a story, his absence from the Tour this year hasn't seemed to have had any sort of significant (positive or negative) impact on things. If he never plays again (which I doubt is the case) then the Tour will still be the same.

For the record... I've never been a Phil fan, but I've never been a Phil hater either.

I dont think the PGA of America wants any part of any litigation that may arise, considering some of its members will be taking a shot at the money in the rival league...just my guess

Phil is deferring to his new advisor on his schedule.

Oh, here they are now

Phil loves sand though, this dude hates it for some reason. 😅

I am convinced there outside forces at play that are preventing him from teeing it up.  I have a hard time believing FIGJAM himself would voluntarily sit out of the MASTERS.  He is 51.  How many of these majors does he have left in him?  My gut says he'll play this year, but if he misses the PGA Championship as the defending champion, something is definitely up.

I say yes he plays, dude should lay low a year, apologize, and go work in TV and play an occasional event here and there. Nobody even cares a month after his comments let alone a year.

Exactly.  After a brief moment of shock and a day or two of throwing shade, the truth is the average golf fan doesn't give a crap about what Phil thinks or whether or not he has any morals or a conscience...lol.  At this point, it's mostly the media trying to milk every last ounce out of the story.  I think we'll see one more big public mea culpa from Phil in the next couple of weeks, everyone will move on, and he'll be able to tee it up at the PGA.  At least, I hope that's how things shake out.  I don't necessarily like the guy, but there's no denying what he's meant to the professional game over the past 30 years.

PGA Tour has deep influence, even with Augusta & PGA of America. He really screwed up this time. Got lucky with insider trading, but not this time.

I gotta feelin Phil goin Saudi.

I don’t think many tour players like Phil too much. Not that that’s a big deal but he’s just not as competitive now on the pga tour. Harder for him to make cash.

Now his endorsements sunk.

So, how to make a fresh start, get like massive bank up front, compete against Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood and random players for huge purses?

Voila…

His shelf life is limited-kinda limbo of a little weak for big tour and too good for Champions

His win at the PGA was an outlier assisted by poor crowd control

If he wants to play - they should let him ,but he has damaged his brand and the endorsements won't return because he has little upside to offer

I won't miss him but I guess some will

PGA Championship - who knows.  Senior PGA Championship - who knows.

PGA Tour seems unlikely this season, which is better than half over for regular events.

U.S. Open? No way, why would he bother?

Open Championship? I see this as the most likely if he hasn't teed it up with the Saudis (he may have obligations to that outfit if they haven't cut ties because he turned out to be an ineffective agent). But if he's obligated to play in their stuff, maybe the PGA Championship and then he's part of the Saudi exhibition league as player and/or investor?

I'm not really looking forward to whatever sideshow he creates if he decides to play - don't see him having much credibility to support whatever explanation he puts forth.

Seems like there are so many things we don't know about, let alone the ones we do, he needs to get figured out and golf may not really be his priority for some time.

I don't see why Phil wouldn't play in the PGA and US Open - not PGA Tour events.  Not a fan of the blacklisting either.

His sponsors may not have liked it, but Phil wasn't making stuff up.

Let's say a pro groped a woman and exposed himself on an airplane and was suspended by the Euro Tour for a year. Do you think the USGA (U.S. Open) and PGA of America (PGA Championship) would allow that guy to play in their championships? Or let's say a pro was popped by the PGA Tour for a banned substance and they suspended him. Would the USGA and PGA of A allow the pro to play? Let's say a pro was caught red handed cheating, say, tamping down his lie to improve it, and the pro was suspended. Would the USGA or PGA of A* allow that pro to play in their championship? I don't think so.

You can argue that Phil's suspected suspension by the PGA Tour is different, but I'm certain the USGA and PGA of A would defer to a major tour if they suspended a pro.

*You can add the R&A to this scenario as well.
