anyone noticed how slow he played during a final round FBR open?

you would have been slow too if you kept playing shots from the desert.

How far behind was the final group? It seemed to me like Mickelson's group finished on 18 when the last group was still back on 16. Shouldn't they have been put on the clock, or were they still within the acceptable timeframe. Maybe everyone else ahead was bookin' it to make the big game...

I like JB! But he did kind of bug me with his back and forth stuff. Kinda like Sergio and his grip!

come on admit it. you just wished it was you. instead of someone that has to watch it on tv. i know the young man. and his father, and his mother, and other relatives. he is a good young man.

Not sure that anyone wishes they were JB Holmes, no one is doubting the guy's character. However, he was playing slower than Ben Crane!

I am glad he beat Phil as well, props to him. Obviously he was grinding it out......

I was out at the fbr open all day with Holmes' group. For starters Mickelson's group was three groups ahead of Holmes' so if you're wondering why he was doing interviews while Holmes played sixteen, it was because he teed off 45 minutes ahead of J.B.

JB was trying HARD to give the title to Phil. He looked like a nervous wreck out there. Luckily for him, he made a couple 10-15' putts coming in to save himself.

At the end of the day though, he held it together BARELY, and got the W. Multiple winner on tour....that is big.

Completely ignorant comment here. There is no luck involved in making birdie on the 72nd hole to force a playoff, and then on the first playoff to beat the 2nd best player in the world. He stared Phil in the face, hit it 355 down the middle and took the tournament. No luck there sir. Infact I've yet to meet someone who makes lucky fifteen footers under pressure and hits 350 yard drives with all odds stacked against them.

I'm sure he is a nice guy but he was an absolute disgrace. He took a ton of practice swings and then kept sort of jerking back and forward before he got to the ball but then when he got over the shot he was pretty quick. Off point slightly did ye notice ben crane he has really picked up his pace of play

A little harsh, aren't we?

Slow. Probably. Disgraceful? No.

I think even JB would admit he was "lucky" to have the birdie putt drop at 15 or 16. He ABSOLUTELY was in the process of throwing up all over himself and the putter saved him. Sure, you have to make a good stroke, but when you are 10'+ away from the hole you need a little bit of luck in ADDITION to a good stroke.

He did pull it off, so I am giving JB all the credit, but it sure was shaky and he NEVER looked like he was in complete control of his game on Sunday, but rather just trying to hold on.

The announcers mentioned his slow play and high number of practice swings several times during the final few holes. So that brought extra attention to it. But I really don't see JB as one of those habitual slow players. As others have mentioned above, I just think he knew the title was about to slip away and he was trying a little too hard to correct some things mid-game, really thinking way too much. As most of us have learned in our own minor contests, this usually hurts our performance and JB did blow a few key shots coming down the line there like the par 5 approach into water and a poor chip which should have been close enough for birdie. I agree the amount of time was excessive on those last few key shots. But once he dropped that birdie putt on 18 to get into the playoff, his confidence really seemed to surge.

Believe I remember that Mickelson teed off @ 30 minutes behind, at 10:20. JB at 10:50. Not sure how far behind PM he finished.

There was also a point coming down the stretch - forget the hole - where JB waited forever to get a ruling. I mean, dont rules officials travel with these groups, especially the final group on the final day? I guess not. Anyway, to me at least it looked like he waited 5-10 minutes and even after that it, again appeared to me, that he hit without a guy ever making it there.

You guys need to CHILL on JB. He was on 16 when Phil finished 18, 3 group ahead as stated earlier, but on 17 only one group can play at time because of the short yardage. JB's wheels were a screw or two from falling off the wagon and he needed to get it fixed NOW, however it took. The other two in the group (Byrd and Warren) were throwing up on themselves as well and only Warren was able to somewhat clean himself up, this added to the mix which no one talked about.

All in all the telecast was completed by the 3pm scheduled time (including the playoff hole). We've all seen this before with someone in our group trying to win some scrip at a men's club tournament, but this was for 1 mil.
