Pinehurst 2

Hi,

     I am travelling to Raleigh from Brazil in September this year, what are my options to play without staying onsite? The course is on my bucket list, I would really like to play the No 2 course. Any suggestions would be welcome.

From what I have researched recently, you have ZERO chance of playing No. 2 without staying on property.

We have a 24 man trip to Pinehurst planned in 3 weeks.  Four of us are getting into Pinehurst early for three extra days of golf.  Two of the four early guys are staying on property the whole time.  When I tried to book a tee time on No. 2 for the four early players I was not allowed to include the two not staying on property.  They booked rooms for that night on-site and were allowed to be added to the foursome.

Book one night on-site if you want to play No. 2.

Pinehurst reserves advance tee times for members and resort guests. To play courses 2, 4, 6, 7, 8 or 9, you must be a member or resort guest. If you are not a member or resort guest and wish to play courses 1, 3, 5 or The Cradle, you may call (855) 835-0771, opt 5, to book a tee time beginning 1 day before your desired date of play. Walk on tee times are non-cancellable.

Yeah only property guests/members can get tee times on #2 and #4 sadly.

That's interesting. They must have changed the policy because when I worked there (2010 - 2014) you could walk on to #2 for like $400 to $500 depending on the time of year. I believe the only stipulation was that you could only book it on the same day or 24 hours in advance or something like that. 

 

Gopher ---  If you do have to stay on property, you'd be looking at $1,000 ($800 for a one-night / one round package plus the $200 upgrade to play #2) with September rates.

it’s a new rule within the past year. No play on 2/4 unless staying on property or a member/guest of a member

Thanks for the replies, no way will I be able to justify spending 1k to play no2. I will just drive there and take a look around.

That's actually very common. A ton of people come to just walk around and check things out. You can see holes #1 and #18 from the clubhouse area and there's a bar/restaurant there so you can just sit in a rocking chair with a beer and watch people play up 18. And of course do the tourist thing and have your picture taken with the Payne Stewart statue haha. The Cradle (par 3 course) is $50 for all day play if you want to do that. You don't have to stay on property for that.

I would recommend playing Pine Needles, Mid Pines, or the recently renovated Southern Pines, then heading over to the Pinehurst resort to eat at the Deuce, walk around and play the putting course which is free.

 Off season is the way to go. 
 

last time I stayed on property I did the Titleist fitting package. 
 

for 1k got:

-2 nights lodging

-breakfast and dinner included

-rounds on 2 and 4

-cradle 

-Titleist fitting package

-$200 pro shop credit 

 

I did it the last eligible weekend in March of 21 and had fantastic weather the whole weekend. They changed the package this year - it’s only through Feb now and a couple hundred bucks more. But that’s the best way to play #2 IMO

2 is a very nice course but not worth current price. Plenty of better options.
