Fowler Becoming Jay Don Blake of the Modern Era?

If Rickie wants to be the iconic figure Jay Don Blake is, he will have to begin using his first & middle name. Rickie Yutaka does not roll off the tongue like Jay Don.

 

Tomorrow I'm playing golf with a good friend named Bobby Don. Not short for Robert & Donald, his first & middle names on his birth certificate are Bobby Don. And yes, he goes by Bobby Don.

@Hawkeye77 will tell you - I have been a JDB fan for many years.   

 

He played his best golf in the shadow of Fred Couples during the 91-92 seasons.   

His iron game was impeccable at the 92 US Open where he finished T6.   

He played in very few British Opens, because as he stated, "they don't come here to watch me play, why should I go there?"  

As stated earlier in the thread, his game was "magical" at the 1994 Jerry Ford Invitational.

I am a fan. I once witnessed Jay Don Blake hit a punch shot into a tree branch like someone bet him he couldn't, but then bearing the true grit only reserved for the stoically mustachioed, he proceeded to get up and down for his par.

I can relate. I was only in his gallery for a few holes, but I feel like I left with a better understanding of how to dress myself fully in denim, how to make a citizens arrest, and that I should never kiss a prostitute.  But my real mustache education happened much earlier when I snapped a picture of Corey Pavin in a practice round. I left that day with a proper understanding of how to draw a four wood on a stout crosswind.

it was a long while back (pre-Internet) when I recall reading an article about hecklers who followed him at a tournament, wildly drunk and just cheering him on at every chance-- even though he was like in 70th place on a sunday (his usual placing.) iirc Johnny Miller also called out JDB in his book about the money list tour card list being too long because it meant guys could just hang around for years if not decades even, not much chance of a win, and make good money. Id like to see a copy of the article about the hecklers if anyone has circa 1992

I agree about feelings for all folks less fortunate in one way or the other. We are smiling with them not at them. My friend's brother is challenged and has a wonderful sense of humor about himself and cuts it up with gusto, he also has a great golf swing and hits it a mile.
