V Sole bounce

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know what the bounce numbers are for 7-pw for the ZX7? Can’t find this anywhere.

I want to get into Cleveland wedges but they don’t have many high bounce options, especially for lefties. Hit the full face zipcore RTX really well and loved the feel today.

@Mobert19: Does this Google Lens auto-translation = help a bit?

GoogleLens (very-long Link here ) ... Translation output = per screenshot below! (The 'Bounce' specs = mis-spelled/auto-translated as 'Vance Angle' in the screenshot!)

The Cleveland RTX Full-face specs : per this Link: https://sports.dunlop.co.jp/golf/products/wedge/rtxff.html
(For 'Bounce' specs... Look for   "バンス角 (*)"   in the tabular specs summary ... albeit it seems odd that there's only One Bounce option, i.e. 9*?)

The first number is the leading edge bounce and the second number is the trailing edge bounce. If you like the way your ZX7 PW works through the turf, get the mid bounce model in the RTX. If you dig a little more than you would like with your ZX7 PW then go will the Full sole option on the RTX. The full sole option is very similar to the sole of the original 588 wedges which are pretty much the model most current wedges are based on.

I agree with hammergolf's assessment.

The RTX (and RTX Zipcore) wedges kind of move the goalposts with their naming. The so-called "Full" sole is what we used to consider normal width. "Mid" is thinner that what we used to consider normal and "Low" is thinner still. You have to go to one of the other wedges like CBX to get an actual wide sole.

So I’m thinking stick with mid bounce for 54 and 50 and then go to full bounce 58 for bunkers and short sided chips. Full face isn’t offered in the 50 left handed so I’d have to go to standard zip core. Should t make a big difference right?

I'm not really that experienced with all the Cleveland options. I did play mid bounce RTX Zipcore 50 and 54 for about six months last year (but I had a Callaway 58deg). I found the soles/leading edge of the mid bounce RTX Zipcore to "play skinny" for me compared to the Vokey F-grinds I was used to. When I was swinging well I loved them, just sliced through the turf so nicely I felt like they were very maneuverable. But I had to be mindful of going ahead and making a pretty aggressive pass through the ball, any hesitation or lack of acceleration and they'd dig.

I had the original CBX Full Face lob wedge a couple years ago and my goodness that was a forgiving club. But no experience with the later full Face models.

If I were going back to Clevelands, I personally would only use the "Full" rather than "Mid" or "Low" soles and if no "Full" option was available in the certain loft I'd go CBX or something instead.

That’s what I would recommend. For me, I’ve found the V sole works great for square faced shots from fwy, but not so good when the face is opened from the bunker because there is so little “bounce” on the trailing edge. I have some RTX Tour Rack Full sole wedges that are GREAT.
