Bethpage Black

After a year of trying, I finally got a tee time at Bethpage Black. I would love to get 18 in, but our time is unfortunately at 5pm. What’re the the odds of people cancelling, and if they do will the times pop up on the website or should I plan on going out to the Bethpage parking lot and camping out? Should I just cut my losses, cancel and try again later?

 

Edit: My question is with rain potentially coming in, should I expect for people to cancel their tee times and be able to get an earlier or should I cut my loses and find somewhere else to play considering it’s a Saturday?

Yes, but my group wants to do the whole thing right, take 4+ hours, get a caddie and experience Bethpage Black. Not rush through a three hour round just to get out.

You most likely won't finish with a 5 pm tee time. Bethpage rounds are notorious for being 5+ hours.

Is your tee time on 6/21? Otherwise you aren't finishing.

The odds of people cancelling is 100%.  The night before refresh your browser and you will see times come and go, usually for 1 or 2 people.

 

I've never not got on the night before when trying but then again I'm a single.  I've never tried getting a foursome but you got a chance.

 

Zero chance of finishing if you get out at 5.  Just played a couple of days ago and got it in 445.

Last year, I planned on getting there at 4am to wait in line, but checked the website the night before and many times popped up.

 

I ended up playing there two days in a row at around 2pm on both days.

 

Very challenging course. Fantastic experience.

Okay thanks!! Did you just show up the day after to play the second round?

No, I tried to sign up on-line for the 2nd round and learned that Black was only available once a month on-line, so I booked a round on Red for noon.

When I arrived the next day to play Red, there was a 2pm time available on Black, so I took that.

So funny, I tried for the first time in about 3 years. Was on at 6:59pm and refreshed every 5 seconds. All of the times came and went before I could even click one....thinking lots of bots. 

 

Anyways, I was super pissed and check back at 7:10 and sure enough a 2some became available for 12 noon next Friday, exactly what I needed. I would say keep checking back because after I missed initially, I rechecked Thursday the 16th and a prime 10:30am spot opened up for 4. So I would check random times during the week and or the day you want at 7pm, guys might give up a tee time to get one on a later date.

All absolutely true. Hard work pays off when trying to golf the Black 👍

I think because management charges a fee if you have a tee time that isn't cancelled, there are many who book tee times on Black only to cancel the day before.

 

Getting on takes some work, but it is definitely worth the effort.

Thanks for the help! Was able to get out yesterday and had a great time. Feeling it today but totally worth all the effort. 93 first time out!

was able to snag a tee time on the black for saturday at 2pm; i think ill be able to get 18 in.  Anyway i wanted to take a caddy; anybody have a specific caddy they would recommend?

You will be hustling to get in before dark at 2pm. Just spent the last 3 days at Bethpage. Went out at 220 on Tuesday and finished at dark. We ended up joining the foursome in front of us on the 18th and played in as an 8 some. Just keep up with the group in front of you and you should be ok.

Anyone doing the "sleep in your car and wait for tee time in the morning" crowd, what time did you get to the course the night before? I assume at this point in the year it's not going to be very busy and can be there around midnight and not have any issues getting a good time for the next day but don't want to risk it.

This is like the most popular time for Black because the weather is cool so walking isn't a tough. Compare walking the course in 92 degree heat to mid 50s, I'll take the mid 50s all day.
