Switching from Odyssey 10 to 11?

Honeybadger

Recommended Posts

I had three good rounds with the 11 (2-Ball DB) then switched back to the 10 (2-Ball DB) for a round and it felt like I lost control of the head somewhat in the stroke. The 11 feels heavier in the swing, probably due to more front weighting,  which allows me to feel it better.

I still like both of these putters, but I am leaning to the 11 right now, but it is still too early to call.

Went with an older Nike putter yesterday, no 9 style from the Oven, 29 putts, no missed short ones, made 4 over 15 feet for birdie, missed 4 from 8-10 for par, blame there was poor chips from the rough just off the green.  I would call it a good day.

34 putts today with the 11 back in play. Lag putting was very good again and sank some nice birdie putts from within 10 feet and a bomb from 40. 3 putter a two tiered green and had one bad 3 putt that resulted from a lack of concentration.
The Tyne is good at close range because the head feels so heavy, but I’m terrible at lagging putts with a heavy head.  I tried this with the 11 and it worked great for me:

The 11 has been very good at lag/long putting, if fact I probably have putted better with it than any other mallet I have ever tried from long range.   I have twice tied my career low round over the past couple of months with it in the bag, but last week was abysmal. With other mallets I have struggled with long putts, but overall been pretty good at short ones.  I tried a 2 ball a few years ago and was automatic from 4-5 feet, but never, and I mean NEVER made putts over 10-12 feet, and speed control was not great either from long range.

The eleven is an enigma so far for me, I want to keep it and give it another chance, but I can still return it within the next 2 weeks and get full credit for it, I'm torn.

Tough decision. I was thinking it was only good for me at long distances, but after my last two rounds, I am much more confident in my short putts. I have been just as good with it as my heavier headed Ping Tyne, because I stabilized my stroke- I have a SS 3.0 Slim and I used the pointer of pushing up and down with my hands (the link I posted above). It was me not the putter- my yips seem to be gone. My two cents: I think the 11 putts a better roll on the ball because of the weights near the face.
Good luck deciding.

I had 32 putts yesterday, which is very good for me. While I can not definitely say that the 11 is better than the 10 inside 10 feet (my skills are too inconsistent at that range- I don’t think I’ll ever be satisfied at that distance believing I should make more), I can say that the 11 is better for me at lag putting. The 11 putts me close - I have never lipped out or burned edges so often from over 20 feet with any other putter. (I’ve sunk some bombs too). It really holds the line well.

Well, Friday I took the 11 back for store credit.

Messed around with several old putters Friday night and Saturday morning, this past weekend went with an older Nike 003 from the Oven (sort of a Mickelson #9 style).  Putted pretty good, made the short ones, made some longs ones, missed a few makable 8-12 footers but was solid overall.  Speed control was great.  I used this putter a few years ago and putted great at times but went away from it when I would get inconsistent, but I was hitting my lines and as I said speed control was spot on.

Now  I don't know what to do, maybe I just need to admit that big mallets just are not for me.   Might try a Tri-hot as I really seem to like the weight forward concept, but probably really need a good fitting, I think stock putters are too flat for me in general.

I've been following along listening to how this played out for you and Honeybadger. I had the 2-Ball Ten and just felt like it always sat open, so got rid of it.  Was hoping to try the 2-Ball Eleven this weekend, but surprisingly there were none at the closest PGA Superstore. So they must be selling well.

I did roll the Tri-hot #2 and wide blade and liked them both. I'd have a tough time picking which would be better. Also strongly considering a Toulon San Diego or Chicago.

Good luck with your search!

I was kicking tires at the local dicks. Picked up an 11 to test and noticed how well it sat flush. And how well it rolled. And the insert must be firmer which I like. I have a Scotty Phantom 9.5 currently but the 11 felt more stable.

I got the 2022 Chicago, it’s very nice. Can’t go wrong the San Diego either, I only opted for the Chicago because I’m a long time user of a double-bend shaft so that’s what I’m most comfortable with. The Chicago has 25-30 degrees of toe hang, so it definitely still feels/swings like a blade despite the double-bend setup

Was wondering the same thing. I took off the Odyssey oversize grip right away and have been struggling to find a grip that is the right weight for the strokelab shaft. I believe the Odyssey oversize grips are 65g?

I just emailed odyssey and asked what the weights are for the oem paddle and oversized offered on the eleven series as stock.

also asked if we needed to keep the aftermarket grip within a certain weight range of the oem.

Rep said grip weight is up to the user. Use what’s comfortable. Some like more head weight. If the user likes the counter balanced feel then keep within 5 grams.

stock grips:

standard is 76 grams

oversize is 67 grams

After 5 months with the oversize grip I wanted to go back to something smaller with a flat front and with more girth in the left hand aka pistol grip. I don't love the ribbing on the Superstroke GT line so I grabbed an Evnroll Tourtac 50g. Without question my favorite grip out there and looks fantastic with the red strokelab shaft. One member guest and a charity scramble down and I've been putting really nicely with it. Feel like I'm hitting my lines and provided more feel with the heavier head/smaller grip.

The first round I played with the 11 I didn’t like, switched to my usual green star grip and it livened up the feel a bit. Played it for a second round today after a couple weeks of time out and made some really nice strokes with it. Tried to like the 10 since the 11 is really big, but 11 flat out rolls so smooth.

I was inspired by @Shaffer_C and went with an Evnroll Gravity Grip. I tried out the grip with an Evnroll putter at the store a few times a liked it- thought it would be worth a shot at helping me within 5 feet. I took the counterweight out (and cut the shaft 1/2 inch) which still puts me at 20 grams heavier at the grip end than standard. But the weight shift from the top to down the back of the grip does not make the head feel too light. It actually feels great indoors and I’m getting good results on the PING app - especially where Evenroll promises: “Impact Angle”

I found the 10s and the spider x sat open at address

I could get neither to City Square and yes I bent it back-and-forth and up and down to try and do it lol

I picked up at 11 the other day and I was amazed how square it’s sad when we played with it once and it was fantastic great leg great field not the prettiest butter in the world but who cares

The only thing I felt that was weird it had 10 g weights in it not the normal 15 and it did not have a weak plug in the group end which I found strange as well yes 36 inches in length same as my 10

I have had both the 10 and 11 (2-ball DB) for a while now and still can't pick a favorite. The 11 sits so square and feels so solid, but the 10 is so forgiving and a little smaller overall. I have them set up the same and I switch up every once in a while just for the sake of change, but the results are so similar I can't say one is better than the other. It is a great problem to have, so I will just keep them both.

I have never rolled a 10 but I just got a new 11 slant tour lined. It came with the slimmer grip which was too skinny for me. I had a fat Winn  1.6 putter grip here already so I put it on for starters.

I love the feel of this putter and the roll it puts on the ball. For a large headed putter it swings like it’s on rails. Easy to align and start the ball on my target line.

I didn’t have much time to practice with it before my first round with it yesterday but it is pretty easy to get comfortable over it and feel confident.

The distance control comes pretty naturally to me with this one. I’m coming from a non-insert putter but didn’t make any adjustment. The insert feels solid to me.

The sixth hole has a two-tiered green. I was on the lower tier and the pin was right above the slope. My putt had to go up and across the hill. I was honestly just trying to get it close but it dropped for my par.

I also made a 10’ birdie putt on #12 and a must-make 3’ birdie on #18.

I did have a rough patch with it toward the end of the front nine. Seems like my confidence with the putter got a bit ahead of itself. I neglected my routine and missed some makable putts before I realized that it isn’t magic and you still have to make a good read.

Very happy with this purchase.

I couldn't agree more about the 11. It has a very solid feel off the face and puts a smooth roll on the ball. It also sets up perfectly square for me at address which makes it a pleasure to putt with.

I am still rolling both the 10 and 11 and enjoy both putters, but the 11 gets the call most of the time.

I just bought a 2-ball Ten Tour Lined after randomly playing with one in a rental set and more or less falling in love.  For me it sits very square, is super easy to line up and makes 4 footers feel like tap ins. I also really like the white hot face. I looked at the 11 when it came out but never cared for the sharp angles, to me it looks almost like a backwards arrowhead.

FWIW the Ten displaced a 2022 Phantom X5.

I had a Taylormade spider OS for the past five years I bought a used ODYSSEY ELEVEN TRIPLE TRACK DB PUTTER. comparing the two putters the odyssey 11 is by far technologically wise so much better a truer  roll a better to hitting through the ball not coming up as short and many of the puts and I have been in the past month. Ican see this being in my bag for the next five years. good luck, everyone.

How are you feeling about after this season? I have a 5s that all my fittings say is the best for me, yet I picked up the 2 ball today and it just seemed so easy to align and sit square. The 5s swings open if I sole it and I've never got used to the feel off the face for some reason.

I am still loving my 2-Ball.  Super easy to line up and everything inside 5 feet continues to feel automatic.

FWIW I was really surprised Odyssey didn't include a 2-Ball model in their new AI One line. Seems like it would be a no-brainer.
