Linn Grant

So I had never heard of Linn Grant--but saw the story and highlights about her absolutely demolishing the field at the Mixed event in Europe this past weekend.  The Ladies European Tour is just...well, the LET.  But look at her results!  Her last 12 events:  4 Wins, 2 seconds, 1 third, 1 sixth, 3 sevenths.  😲

She did a great job this week end and there are quite high hopes for her in Europe.  She didn’t collapse under the pressure of leading a mixed event.  I think that is pretty impressive.

She was contending in the US Open a bit, the year A Lim won, before falling off at the end.

Saw her in person almost three years ago and you could tell then she was going to be good.

Certainly looks like her and fellow Swedes Maja Stark and Johanna Gustavsson are LPGA bound next year. The next few years could be an exciting time for Swedish Women's golf.

No BUT, the 2nd best female was T15 and Grant DID win by a whopping 9 strokes after beginning the final round just 2 up. The telecast discussion regarding course setup was to hopefully have a top 10 of 5 men/5 women. Not to be. They tried also, using averages, to have the 2nd shot for both men and women made with the same club. She really just laid down some whoop*** on everybody. Love it.

I’m not sold on this as she didn’t play the same tee boxes. 
 

Now as with any win on the DP World Tour, does she now have a DP WT card and can play any event she likes? Because that would be cool.

I am sure she is a gifted player.  But imo unless playing same tee boxes, it just an another feeling good story, and probable stops there.

just good she had a 9 stroke lead! the difference was 500yd over 18 holes. the men can over come that distance no problem. she just played smarter an more accurate!

I watched it, I was impressed by her composure and talent.

Furthermore I was impressed by the concept, the imagination the DT Tour showed and the nuts to pull it off. Refreshing to see something different being done. I'll be watching next year!

Halmstad GK is pretty good too, I've played a couple of times and well worth a visit you guys next time you go to Sweden on a golfing tour. Yes...seriously.

Jeez, forget the men for a second. She won by 14 shots over the next best female golfer.  Enough about the mixed tees thing.  Was just pointing out this woman pro who has been *very dominant* on the LET--I assume we'll see her soon on the LPGA?

But …. IMO it will never go beyond 1 or 2x mentioned in Golf channel.

If LPGA player makes the cut playing from the same tee box as men, huge TV coverage plus more entertained.  That’s just the way it is ……

You're entitled to your opinion, but surely we’ve moved well past this line of discussion?

If we embraced your position as you've outlined on several posts in this thread, maybe there would be few if any women’s sports or women’s events within sports because it is understood that men possess a gender physical advantage that translates to better outcomes eg hitting a golf ball further.

Even within some sports and within a single gender there are different classes based on physical reality eg weight classes in boxing.

Or would you rather see just ‘open’ competitions which would in reality feature no women?

We should be celebrating Linn’s significant achievement: the environment was gender-neutralised and she trounced her opponents.

Well this thread took a turn lol….so many posts have been here in wrx saying there should be a mixed event in the US with both PGA and LPGA players.  And now there are a handful of….ok fine mods I won’t go there😏….there are a handful of guys that seemingly want the event to be just a mens event with some women sprinkled in playing the same tees.

Yes, @2011l6, distance does matter in golf.  A great long player is going to score better than a great short hitting player more times than not.

 

  But is that the point in every event? What is wrong with having a mixed event where, on average,  the men and women are hitting the same clubs on each hole.  Doesn’t mean this woman is a better player than the men because of the tees played but it does show that things being equalized distance she can compete quite well.
