If I could set the rotation?

Shinnecock

Oakmont
The Country Club

Merion

Oakland Hills

Pinehurst #2

Chambers Bay

Pebble Beach

LACC

For the tenth, man that’s tough. Dream? Pine Valley or Cypress, which would never happen. Cherry Hills maybe?

Left a few prominent ones off that just have not been a compelling watch for me.

Then again, getting the membership at several of these clubs to host every ten years is equally unlikely.

Can't get it much over 7100 at par 70, right? Played there years ago.

Same for Chicago GC?

Sounds like for a US Open you need to get fully tipped out around 7800.

6900 max for interlachen….

Pine valley doesnt have the facilities to host but would be great. Almost as private as augusta

Oakmont, Winged Foot, Pebble...

I think Chambers Bay got shafted. They set up the course with an agenda and people weren't ready to see everything burnt. Personally I liked it, it did have two of the best coming down the final holes with a lot of drama - that might have been luck. There was a pretty bad announcer out there too, lost for friggin words.

Maybe they could have one at Doral to piss off everyone. I'd pay to see that.

Coming to it from the UK, I want to see classic US Open courses and for me, the classic US Open course is Oakmont. That said, Merion looked incredible last week for the Curtis Cup and The Country Club this week definitely has my expectations on the high side.

I know there is a lot of love for Pebble and Shinnecock but I just don't enjoy US Open's by the sea as much, something just doesn't fit for me in much the same way that it would if we were to see an Open Championship in the UK played at an inland course.

In terms of new US Open - I would have to say Pine Valley just to be able to get a glimpse of it.

Correct. I’ve been there for the Crump Cup a couple of times (awesome experience and highly recommend!) and a U.S. Open would be difficult or impossible just due to logistics.

Side story about Pine Valley — I was there with my then 10y old son. Was taking incognito photos on #10 😏😏 with my cell, which is officially not allowed, and I feel a tap on my shoulder.

”…oh snap, I’ve just gotten my son and I thrown out!” goes through my head. 😳🤣

It was a PV member, and he asked if I’d like him to take a photo of my son and I in the ###hole. I accepted, and he encouraged us to climb down into that evil little bunker and took several photos. I apologized for taking photos myself and he brushed that right off saying it was totally fine. 😎

Pebble Beach is the iconic venue. The Country Club and Olympic are my other favourites. Oak Hill and Shinnecock are also great tracks. Merion and Oakmont too.

If we're dreaming, I'd love to see Pine Valley and Cypress Point as venues.

The photo does not do it justice. It is legitimately physically difficult to climb in and out!  I used to be a mid-single digit, and zero chance I could play to the green. The only way out (for me) would be backwards. Overdo that and you’re in an scrub area with sand and nasty native grass. The good news is it would take a very poor tee shot to wind up there to begin with.

I have missed left every time I've played that hole, and don't regret my decisions one bit.

Favorite US Open Course - Oakmont CC

New Course(s) - Firestone CC and/or Inverness Club.

 - Firestone's South course has held 3 PGA Championships in addition to formerly being an annual stop on the TOUR with WGC events. It's a long course that can be set up very difficult with tight fairways and thick rough, it deserves to hold a modern major.

 - Inverness Club has held 4 US Opens, most recently in 1979. This course is pure and was one of Donald Ross favorite he designed.

I don’t like US Opens played at courses we see regularly on the PGA Tour (ie: Torrey Pines, Rivierra) with the notable exception of Pebble Beach.

I like the US Opens new approach of having a few traditional sites that host regularly (Oakmont, Pinehurst 2, Pebble Beach, Shinnecock, Winged Foot) followed by sites that host periodically like Merion and hopefully The Country Club

I've attended US Opens at the Country Club, Bethpage, Shinnecock, Winged Foot, Congressional, Merion, and Pinehurst #2. Of that group, the only two that I've played are Winged Foot and Bethpage. The two from that group that I would kill to play, though, are Shinnecock and Merion. The least inspiring of the group was definitely Congressional, though I'm excited to see what it looks like after the renovation at the KPMG in a couple of weeks.

I like it when the Open is at any of the classic courses that it's visited multiple times previously. I think the previous history at these clubs combined with the uniqueness of their designs is what makes this tournament what it is. I have to admit, though, that I thought Chambers Bay looked really cool and, if not for the issue with greens, would have been seen in a much different light - I hope it gets another chance.

So two courses where it would take an act of God (literally) that I would love to see set up for a US Open.

1. ANGC - Besides getting through the powers that be, Augusta is not open in June and for good reason.

2. Pine Valley - Often ranked No. 1 in the world but I do not think the membership there would ever allow the USGA to come in a mess with the course setup/layout. Most we can ever hope for here is a US Am or maybe a Walker/Curtis Cup or an NCAA Championship.

PV has always struck me as the most appealing of the high end private clubs. Everyone I know that's been on property has been treated great, and those members play the s*** out of that course as opposed to a lot of clubs where you're a member for the networking and most people don't actually golf that much.
