*Graphite Design Lovers Anonymous* Tour AD UB vs IZ vs XC and NOW vs TP! ...and HD....and VR

I'm confused - i figured based on the naming conventions that the XC would be the highest launch but lowest spin option; however, the fitting chart says the XC is the lowest launch and lowest spin? And that the IZ and DI are the highest launch/low spin options?

Should probably go off the chart, and not your assumption of the naming conventions. 😀

This is another good thread on the differentiators between the shafts.

Interesting.  I dont have that issue with the XC - I fight spin as well - but I dont swing as fast as you, and that triple diamond was not the head for me, so I never hit it with an XC.  I love how the XC feels, I have it in my driver.  The UB felt a little boardy to me as well.  The DI is fine for me, I have it in a 5 wood and U500, but even a little more feel in the handle would be perfect.  But I hit those clubs well, so I cant complain.

The XC to me felt similar to my 1KO. The UB definitely does not, but the numbers seem too good to pass up.

Happy I’m not the only one going through a GD phase. Currently gaming an AD XC 6x in my TSi2 and am loving the feel. Usually get along with blue profiles and have played the TR blue and ventus red before this. Also gamed an OG AD DI back in the day with great success.

For some reason the soft handle in the XC just works and it produces a nice mid flight and just wants to go straight.

I have an AD TP coming in a paradym triple diamond that I can’t wait to test either. Figured I would go with something a little higher launching considering the lower spin and launch from the paradym. From what I’ve read the TP should fit quite well and if not I can easily plug in the XC.

What should one expect to pay on the aftermarker for a Black ADDI 6X or TX? Want to put one into my TSR4. Currently playing UB 6X in my TSR2 fairway. Probably opt for the 6x in driver.

Would the ADDI feel softer/more active than the UB 6x?

$150-200 depending on the market I’d say.

I think the DI kicks more than the UB

It seems like GD has so many shafts that do near the same thing I'd really like some help. How different (I don't they will be at all) is the TP vs. VR. In the 6S they weight the same, have same torque and GD site says mid/high launch and low spin.

TP Firm>Firm>Stiff

VR Firm+>Med+>Firm

To a layman it seems the TP will play stiffer and launch/spin numbers also lower than VR. Am I thinking right?

I’m playing the VR 6S in driver, DI 7S in 3 wood and TP 8S in 7 wood.

Started with the DI in 3 wood and it was so good that I had to try it in driver.  Just wasn’t the same.  Tried IZ, MT and VR next and VR was the best for me in driver.

They are just different enough with the addition of the faster taper and newer materials like the T1100 & M40X to change things.  Especially changing the feel.

You just don’t know what is going to be the best fit until you try it.

Based on the shaft specs and what I’ve heard from other experiences, that is correct. The VR should have more of a loading feel to it as well. There is a link to a previous topic a few posts up on this page that has a great visualization of the comparison of all the different GD DI shafts.

For all of the questions about the GD shafts and how they compare to each other, GD puts out a handy table that compares the shafts on tip/middle/handle stiffness and launch/spin relative to each other.

this site makes me realize I am not alone. I tried the DI yesterday in my 3 wood and liked it alot, so we are similar. The GT is definitely something I want to demo. Did u try the GT in a 3 wood?

GT is an old old model that didnt really get any attention - even less so than models like the MT and MJ back in 2016. I havent tried it yet.

I just added a TSR2+ to the bag - got a deal on BST .  XC is one of my GOAT shafts, and I have one in 7X (titleist driver adapter) in the garage.

But I also have a BB 7S that I wasn't using.  Swapped the driver adapter for a fairway adapter, and had them cut it down to 43" playing length.  Initial thoughts after a trackman session at GG are all-systems-go.  Playing a course this Sunday where driver is too much on quite a few holes, so methinks the 2+ will see a lot of time off the tee...

Didn’t try the Diamana GT in 3 wood.  I love it in Driver though.

Yes it is. It's a little stouter than the ZF. I went back to the ZF in my 7WD but it was purely a trst/familiarity thing more than anything else. FWIW I'm building a DI 7TX for a TSi 13.5, just to see how it turns out.

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

I like it. Great launch and feel.  If I was doing it again, I’d probably go 8S instead of 7S.

I like it. But as Phizzy said in the "GT Thread" the ZF is a little easier to turn over and I get a little more launch.

@third-times-a-charm thanks for a great thread and not trying to thread jack. cheers

It's funny how one shaft can feel so different to an individual. I went with the UB specifically because it was harder for me to turn over. I'm at the point where I'm fast enough and hit it long enough that I don't need (and never really did need) draw spin. Gets me in trouble more often than the cut ever does.

For those that love the IZ… is there a ventus shaft you’ve gotten along with as well? A bunch of fitters have told me it’s the ventus blue but just curious as to real world opinions. Thanks!

Played the IZ for 3 seasons, in a M5 then the Stealth,  Its a great shaft.  I think I sold it out of boredom when I went to a ST Rogue TD.  I currently using a DI in my TSR3 driver and loving it!  More alive than the IZ but, it just works.  Looking to try a DI 7s or X in my TSR2 16.5.

After some testing between IZ 6x and 7x, will be keeping the 7. Has all the great things about the 6, but I feel a bit more in control of the swing. Cant really appreciate a weight difference. Same flight and spin, just more confidence.

Since I re-stumbled on this thread a month ago, have gone from owning no GD to purchasing and testing 4 GD shafts, two are now cemented in the bag for the time being. My wife absolutely loves seeing golf packages. Thanks guys.

Now if someone will sell me a DI or a TP 8x, the circle will be complete.
