*Graphite Design Lovers Anonymous* Tour AD UB vs IZ vs XC and NOW vs TP! ...and HD....and VR

I currently have the AD UT 85stiff in my hybrid and love the feel of it. I’m experimenting with an Ad di in my 4 wood and 7 wood and don’t seem to get along with it as much as the AD UT, but I’m not necessarily ready to call it quits either. Is there something similar to the AD UT for the fairway wood. I’m looking for 4w/7w shafts. Would the AD GT be a good option? I don’t necessarily need help launching my 7 wood but could definitely benefit from it the 4 wood.

Well pro clubs on eBay just dropped a bunch of GD tour ad shafts. Picked up a ad iz 9x for my 3 wood

Do you have a UB in your driver as well? Just got mine and wondering if it would also play well in my 3W.

I currently am testing a tour ad tp 7tx vs a iz 8tx

Any tour ad TP users playing with a heavier swingweight in driver? I plugged a heavier weight into my g430lst head, only swinging in my garage but now around D7 swingweight, finding the middle of the face more and feels more powerful. Courses open up finally this week so excited to try it out

Happy to report the Triple Diamond and UB combo is a bomber. Had it tipped an inch and had no issues losing it left what so ever. Tight draws but could still play a cut with it. Most importantly for me it was a flat launch and cut through the wind. My 425/1k combo had a tendency to balloon in the wind

Yep. Hair higher launch and spin than DI for me but lots of load feel bordering on a little noodly.

100%. I play it in an 8TX in my 3 wood and it's amazing.  Very nice for hitting off turf.  I've found it's fairly stable for how nice and high it launches.  No ballooning at all.  I've not ever felt a shaft in my 3 wood quite like it.  Wish I would have known about it earlier.  I don't even know what year it was launched.  Bought it based on your recommendation in this thread probably. lol

I have 3 versions of the GD DI and they're all great. But all of them are variations or a different flex then id usually play.

 

Driver is the TP model because I needed a stiffer handle.

 

Fairway is the GD DI model but a full flex stiffer than I'd normally play. 

 

Driving iron is the IZ.  

 

A lot of this was done to firm up the shaft, especially the butt. Just too soft and loose feeling for me, even though I could always feel and appreciate the stiff and full feeling típ.

HD in driver is perfect for me, have been using it for about 3 weeks now, its a little better then the DI so far, both in 6s.

The Ub and IZ were terrible for me, not really sure why, didnt feel as good, dispersion was awful and I have no idea why

How does the XC compare to a Ventus blue? 

 

I'm playing a XC-6s in my driver, really need to move to an X for dispersion sake.  Was playing with the idea of trying out a ventus blue instead of the XC in an X... Or maybe getting both and selling the one I like less.  Any insight on how they compare?

Slightly softer handle in the XC and better feel.

UB is more linear and one piece but still with feel. UB is noticeably stiffer handle that any AD shaft closer to a Ventus in that area. Slightly higher launch and spin with the HD

I was for 10+ years a reg made-for driver shaft guy. Between R & S. Now 50 yo.

 

My first GD and after-market shaft iz 6s. Got it about 3 weeks ago. Did a lot of research but bought completely blind (never hit GD) … successfully fitted on wrx :)! Part of buying spree redoing completely everything.

 

Courses just starting to open so only range time in very cool/cold temps. Loving it!! Eye balling only distance but very piercing and very straight. Can’t over power and no problem with “lefts”.

 

Feel is always difficult and haven’t been in warm weather or golf course or real balls. But I would say for me it is semi-subtle but distinct at same time. Kick starts from above middle and works down the club but doesn’t reach as far as tip area so stable. From where I’m coming from, kick feels “fast, but not short” if that makes any sense.

 

Easy enough to swing and still get performance on smooth swings. Easier to hit than reg made-for speeder. I like the feel, balance and energy of it in my driver head.

 

I’m ~100 and low ball hitter. TM Sim 12*. Swinger, not hitter. Iron shafts SF i110r.

I actually had both as my gamers last year for driver.  HD was easier for me to turn over.  Both felt linear, but UB was more stable.  Launch was similar between the two with spin slightly higher with the HD.

XC was more stable for me and was harder to turn over compared to the Ventus Blue.  VB had more kick to it.  XC launched 1* lower than the VB.

Thanks, that's the type of info I was looking for!  I was hoping the Ventus Blue would be as low launching.  I do like the XC, but a little firmer feeling handle like the Ventus Blue might help me "feel" like I can lean on it more, like with the DI in my fairways... But with a driver I need to keep the launch down. 

 

The thing is I detest boardy feeling shafts, so Ventus Black or the like is out of the question.

I’ve tried out a lot of the Graphite Design shafts over the last few years. Recently just got the VR and have to say it’s my favorite. It feels like 1 piece but feels very smooth if that makes sense.
