The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

Perfect question for this group, I love AD HD, AD DI and AD XC (6s) in my driver, love AD DI 7s in my 3 wood.

Which hybrid shaft should i get?

Currently have Aldila Tour Blue 85s, had it forever and looking to upgrade.

Comparing AD DI to AD HY, which one should i get and why? Thanks

I vote for the IZ over either one of those.  IZ was more stable while being in the same launch window as the DI for me.  Spin was the same.  IZ felt a little more linear as well and kicked less.  If however, you are hell bent on DI or HY, I would pick the DI all day, everyday.

It depends what you're looking for.  AD DI hybrid and AD HY are similar - AD HY will launch higher and have a little more kick than AD DI.  Both feel very smooth and are really good hybrid shafts.

Finally got out to the range today but with no LM.

IZ 7 in my 3 wood was a really fun combo. Dont know why I never put an IZ in fairway before. I like it better than the HD for a 3 or 4 wood after today's test for sure. I would think its a hair too high launch/spin for anything in the 5-7 wood range and thats where I have my HD and it shines in the 8-weight model (5 wood). The TD fairway I'm playing - even with the 14g weight in the rear and 2g forward - is still fairly low spin and fade biased and the IZ pairs nicely with that.

The TP in driver went well also. Very much the same as I remembered from last year's testing. Definitely a flatter flight than the DI which I didnt have to test at the time (I believe on page 1 of this thread? I had the IZ, XC, TP, and UB?) but similar launch and spin - maybe a touch lower on both.

I'm going to keep both the TP and DI shafts for driver in my bag until I get my LM back and then get some numbers.

I got mine on ebay. I usually message the seller and ask for measurements to determine tipping and length. Right now I have the DI Hyb in the bag but waffling on putting the AD HY back in.

With about 15-20 shots on the LM from each shaft - for me - it was 100RPM and .8* launch difference between the two with the AD HY being the higher one. The biggest difference is in feel where the AD HY is more like a traditional GD wood shaft like the DI or VR that has some kick (hence the new VR-esque graphics on the AD HY for 2023+), but the DI hybrid is more like a linear stout feeling model like the HD/GP in woods.

So according to my FS MEVO which is still a piece of crap after the warranty claim - in variance - in the AD TP is on average about 1-1.5* lower in launch but a similar spin window to the AD DI. The DI is higher in peak height as well due to that. The slightly tighter feel helps with the loosness of the AD DI and is a little bit more consistent for me.

Kind of confirms why I liked it. Also confirmed I am a moron and should probably keep the TP in driver.

The GP is a fantastic model, still, and will probably stay in one of my 3 wood setups.

I went away from the TP a couple years ago and replaced it with an XC. Bought a TSR4 head this spring and decided to put the TP in it. Don’t know why I ever went away from this shaft. It’s just so stable for me. Definitely one of the more underrated shafts out there.

Morning fellas,

Currently have a UB 7X tipped 1 " in the driver and love it. Ck Pro Orange in 425 3W and 425 2Hy (90 TX), and a CK Pro Blue in a  425 4Hy I just picked up second hand. There aren't a lot of the Orange 90TX HY around used (like none) so I'd thought I might start searching for some GD HY shafts. Any recs for someone who gets along with a UB and CK Orange?

IZ HB if you want something that feels stout or DI HB if you want something that feels a little softer and has more kick to it.  They're both mid-high launch and mid spin from the numbers I saw when I tested them.  If you're open to other OEM HB shafts, I would highly recommend the Ventus Black or Blue HB.  I have the black in my hybrid and it's the most stable HB shaft I've had/tested.

I'm definitely open to other OEM shafts, though I don't know how much I want to churn and burn for hybrid shafts. Hard enough right now to offload some of my final wood shafts 🤣

I have about a month until I'm going to play TPC Twin Cities and need to dial in the hybrids prior to. Have to decide if I'm going to go 4I, 2HY, 3W or 4HY, 2HY, 3W at the top of the bag.

  • 2 weeks later...

IMG_6422.jpeg.1f9cdeb8bd68f6e16c09678cd1e2a269.jpeg

I finally went to hit some balls this week after a hiatus. New setup in the bag as well. By the way it's unbelievably hard to take a photo of four golf shafts with headcovers on.

Currently going TP 6 > IZ 7 > HD 8 > DI 85 in 1 > 3 > 5 > 4h

I had a really good range session with an AD DI and wanted a little flatter apex so the TP does that. I tested the IZ 7 in a different fairway head a few weeks ago and liked it so I pulled it and plugged it into a Callaway adapter and am now using it in my 3w. This is still kind of a test as I love the GP in 3 wood.

I went back and tested the AD HY today and even though the AD DI Hyb is tipped .5" too much it still performs better for my liking in the hybrid slot with the way I have it setup. The AD HY was just a little too active and high of a flight now that I'm using it in a 4h and not a 3h spot.
