Ebay shipping label question

So I sold a wedge on Ebay. Haven't sold anything there in awhile. Their shipping label prices are good. But I noticed on their pre generated label the dimensions of the box are way off. And there is no option to put my custom measurements.  For both USPS and Fed Ex the measurements they supply are way off. Do you think I'm still ok using them?

I still sell on eBay here and there and had two sales recently. The dims it applied for me are what I entered in the system once I created the listing for the shipping charges.

The dimensions and weight are populated with the details you filled out when you made the listing to begin with. You also can change them when you go to print the label so I'm not sure why you didn't see them. You definitely need to change them to make sure you are getting accurate pricing from the carriers. If you still can't figure out how to change them then you can get the same pricing on custom labels from Pirate Ship or PayPal ShipStation and then you can add the tracking number to your eBay account after the fact.

Also….just as a PSA: If you do use eBay for anything light (like a shaft…sometimes a whole club), make sure to factor in dimensional weight to avoid surcharges tacked on after delivery with FedEx or UPS. Or like suggested above, just use a 3rd party like Pirateship who have agreements that avoid dim weight for certain shipping levels (e.g, UPS ground).

So can I ship by a non ebay shipping option? How would it work with ebay if I charged 9.99 for shipping.

eBay pays you what you charged for shipping (less fees of course). You are able to buy a label through them or another place. Not bound to have to use eBay for the label. If you use another place just add the tracking number to the sale.

Thanks to everyone for all thr great info. I think I will just use Pirate ship and not have to hassle with ebay shipping labels.

That's what I always do now.  I bought a scale on Amazon on sale  (it weighs up to 85 pounds and gives weights in both grams and pounds/ounces -- it's an Accuteck Heavy Duty) to get the weight right and enter the measurements from the box/package I am shipping.  I always enter weight slightly heavier  (1 to 2 ounces) than the actual weight just in case of error  (myscale is always within 1 tenth of an ounce from the post office...generally it's exactly the same). 

 

The scale has already paid for itself after 5-6 labels going through Pirateship.  The scale also works well for measuring golf club components.
