LIV Tour Discussion Thread (*** NO POLITICS ***)

Reading up on the Cam/Marc information as the court aspect seems trivial at this point. 

 

Sounds like what we all knew was coming that Cam and Marc are signed with LIV and just waiting for the FEDEX cup to be over, interestingly there is a ton of rumors on other players to just waiting to finish out the FEDEX cup....?

 

So they now have the #2 and #56 ranked player moving over. 

 

Interesting to me is if Cam is playing in the FEDEX cup events as noted and say he wins one or two and moves into the #1 OWGR and then plays in the LIV event.

will admit I tried to watch the Wyndham this weekend........HOLY SNOOZE FEST.

 

Sorry but other than Faldo retiring that was the most boring broadcast I have seen in a LONG time and I am not a spring chicken.

These PGA Tour members are assets to the the tour.  Why should they let LIV borrow them whenever they want to?  They have every right to fight this.

You won’t get that.   Ever again. Gregory Q Norman put a stop to that. He’s been trying since 1994. Finally got a backer to fund his feud. 
 

im glad to see a culling of the herd. We know who’s who now.   And no shock. Phil is the one to sell the game.  And I’ve been a fan for life. I hope to never see him hit another shot. He’s squandered more than most small towns ever see in revenue. Now he’s selling a game that he doesn’t own.

PGA tour players (and their NIL) are essentially assets to the tour, especially with the new multi-billion dollar media contract that was just signed. They may not be directly employed by the tour, but they also would not be playing for the amounts they do now without the tour and how it's structured.

Everything. This is every tour members personal assets on the line. Their pension fund , etc is paid for according to tour income.

Just another attempt at a poor analogy, this thread is filled with them.  The players are their own assets in the pga tour,  this isn’t the nba where the players are “owned” and controlled by owners.

Do you realize that a player who won shot 27 on the front 9 and went on to win the tournament? To top that off he is 20.

I mean I stayed earlier I'm not pro PGA tour or Pro Liv. So I really don't care about the PGA tour and what they think their assets are to them. I care about watching good golf.

Here’s my biggest gripe. And I’m not trying to ride you. But. Why do people who don’t watch golf 5/6 days a week like i do try to tell me how to watch ??  Meaning. If you aren’t really a fan. Why ruin it for those of us who are ?

Correct.  Only the LIV players are owned and controlled by owners.  Another laughable contradiction by the LIV players.

 

If you don't think tour players are assets of the tour and part of the package the tour presents, then we shall just agree to disagree.

If that is the case, you should be pro PGA tour. That is where the best players are right now. Or do you prefer familiar names to good play?

Actually, I think a better analogy would be, it is like a pizza parlor that pays the suppliers of the ingredients money before it gets paid for the pizzas it sells.   The players are the product, the viewers are the customers.

 

The PGA pays the suppliers only if the suppliers get made into a pizza.  If players don't win on the PGA, they don't get paid.

I agree with you, especially considering it's a player ran organization. Their collective media rights are the value, else there are no TV deals and the purses that you see. They don't have a $600 Billion PIF behind them.

Well as of now two of my favorite golfers to watch, Cam Smith and Bryson, are now on the LIV and are or will be blocked from playing on the tour.

As long as you know want you’re signing up for its a non issue.  Just pointing out the difference.  Norman has already said publicly that what we’ve seen this year wasn’t the way it was supposed to be, they had to alter their game plan due to the unreasonable response of the pga tour.

Maybe so. But I don’t get the gripe you have if you aren’t watching anyway. ?  Can’t you go to the local muni and watch Drunks play with music on ?  Maybe bring a boat horn for “ golf but louder “? 
 

i stopped watching most other sports. Because I hate the new formats. I don’t go on their fan sites and wish their demise. 
 

No offense. But you’re calling for good golf ,what you mean is majors and Ryder cups. That’s fine. But many of us love the day to day.   If every event is special.  No event is special.  
 

you should be mad at Bryson and cam for defecting. Not at the tour for having rules.

Evolve into what?

 

Letting players play half the schedule and pay them money that is not economically to pay them?

 

And it's not just the PGA Tour that can make these decisions without repercussions from venues, sponsors, charities, networks, etc.

How is anyone getting this so backwards? The PGA tour was created to organize events for the benefit of the players. The players are not assets of the tour nor simply there to fill spots on the tour as employees or contractors.
