LIV Tour Discussion Thread (*** NO POLITICS ***)

I thought this topic was actually moderated? Sad to see this reads like a reddit post trafficked by teenagers that contribute nothing more than tripe and insults. Would have thought a golf community was a bit more grown up than that.

There's good discussion here, but also a lot of garbage.

There are those on both sides of the issue who can only "discuss" by insulting and ridiculing the opposition. It's a lot like reading a political message board in that aspect.

I read every post but simply ignore those which are here simply to belittle the tours, the players, or people who are posting opposing views.

The previous thread, which is now closed, was moderated.

If winning was easy, losers would do it.

We have all these reports but not a single quote from Smith. If you are going go. Winning of the PGA Tour obviously means nothing to him if the reports are correct so why stay.

I think it was mentioned he had a press conference today. I imagine about this.

I don't know, his career earnings are 24M and if the report is accurate he just signed a contract worth 4 times that, probably for 3-4 years only. It's hard to say no i imagine. That's a lot of guac

No business allows their employees or contractors to simultaneously hold employ with a competitor. Period.

I agree.

However, your logic in this case has a fundamental flaw. The PGA Tour is not a business and cannot take any action to stifle “competition.” It does not have market share.

The self-proclaimed purpose of the PGA Tour in its IRS filing as a 501(c)(6) non-profit is to promote golf worldwide for professional golfers. (Period.)

Why stay through the FEDEX Cup? Maybe more money potential. If he has signed with LIV I hope they suspend him and Leishman both before Thursday. Too cake and eating it.

thanks for that!

I mentioned a while back that i imagined the lawsuits probably related to how the tour was classified in their filing....I imagine this is the crux of the argument.

As silly as it may look to us, legally the lawsuit might make sense

Yeah.  I never realized people would jump to domestic abuse and cover up and nefarious activity.  I shouldn’t have even responded to the one guy lol.

You ended up explaining yourself, it was a fair explanation and even gave you a like for it. You throw out what you did, people are going to be curious.

May be his best chance to get world ranking points for a while. Though he doesn't really need them as he's exempt into the majors for a while. But it would help the LIV event strength of field.

I hope they don't suspend him before the FEDEX cup but it would not surprise me with how the PGA Tour is acting.

I wouldn't expect it to be any different than the first players that went.  It was known beforehand they were going but they weren't suspended until they hit a shot.  Smith could back out of his deal theoretically but I wouldn't expect him to.  But I think once he hits his first LIV shot he'll be suspended.

But LIV is a business, how does a for profit business sue a non-profit for anti-trust violations, when that business is already providing bountiful compensation to its newly contracted employees.

Any update on how the proceedings are going?  I just got out of a meeting and they are at maximum capacity.

According to the Katrek show, the defense got the judge to say that she could see the tour suing LIV for being a monopoly.  Now clue what that means.

Well said and I appreciate all the solid contributions going on in here as I've found in my amazing four months this to be the best place for content. Now I just need to find out where the ignore button is and I'll be all set.

While debating and discussion are fine, we will not tolerate rudeness, insulting posts, personal attacks, or purposeless inflammatory posts.

Topic will now be moderated full time because certain members have been unable to have a civil discussion.

As stated in the op:

1.  No political discussion will be permitted whatsoever, including fund sourcing.  For many of you that have been posting in the LIV threads moderation will seem heavy handed for a time, but the LIV threads have eroded one of the founding principals of GolfWRX and one of the elements that make this place a safe haven on the internet.  Posts will be removed without notice or warning, and it will be within the moderators' full discretion to issue warnings and suspensions to members that can't help themselves.

2.  Reporting by members remains a very important part of moderation on these Forums.  If you are among the majority that love the GolfWRX Forums because of the lack of political discourse and the negativity that permeates much of the internet, it is important that you become comfortable using the Report feature to help the moderators deal with problems.

3.  Post-running and "running the site" will not be tolerated.  This means that if you are posting excessively in the LIV thread or elsewhere, your account may be temporarily suspended.  This will be in the moderators' discretion.

4.  Accounts that appear to have been created for the sole purpose of posting about LIV will be closely examined and may be suspended.

Bickering and personal attacks will also not be tolerated.  Please use care when quoting other members and consider what you are posting and why before you post.

PGA lawyers getting their turn.

So far the biggest point in favor of the plaintiffs seems to be that the tour rules allow a player to continue to play while they appeal a suspension.

Is the appeal process spelled out?  What's worse case scenario?  PGAT loses today, grants appeal for noon tomorrow, and by Wednesday night, sorry Gooch you lost your appeal.

Is LIV suing them or are individuals from the LIV suing them? Because that's a huge difference. I thought it was the players suing

I'm sure some would decline, but yeah if they want to play both tours then why not?

It is the players, but those players are gainfully employed now, making more than they ever did on tour. Now they are suing for damages for not being able to play on a "non-profit" monopoly of a tour, when playing on that tour does not guarantee a paycheck, where as their current employer does.
