So they’re paid a huge draw. Then they debit that draw back from “winnings “.  So they don’t win anything unless they go over the contract amount.

no shot at points that way. None

LIV should just have given out $50 million purses compared to up front money if they wanted OWGR points and top players

so im not a legal minded person at all....

let's say Cameron Smith, Marc Leishman and Adam Scott all signed on to the LIV tour prior to the Open Championship with the intention of playing after the FedEx playoffs.  Would they have anyway out since they havent made a public announcement or played in a LIV event?

Ramification questions of this LIV loss

1- does this impact people deciding to leave?   Now that it seems at least until the big case is adjudicated, there is no play on the PGA Tour.    And do these players take less value in what Norman and Phil say since this was rejected?

2- does it impact Augusta or the PGA (or the Opens) having LIVrs play those events.  (As for me, I hope winners keep their exemption, it seems unlikely any non- major winner will stay in the top 50 by April.

I don't know on #1, I think this was somewhat of a publicity stunt/attempted cash grab rather than a true attempt to stay on the PGA Tour. Except for Gooch, I think anyone who leaves knew/knows the consequences.

For #2 I agree the former champs should still play. But the stuff that came out in court today seems to really lessen the chance of LIV ever getting OWGR points without major changes, so maybe the majors decide that will be enough.

Phil is getting $40 mil from LIV and he most likely is getting nothing more even if he wins. Phil lost $40 mil of sponsors. Do the math: if Phil won anything on the course on the PGA and Champions Tours and kept his sponsors by not going to LIV, he’d be making more money. Sure looks like Phil needed the cash now.

Phil got 200M, he's fine

As stated in the op:

1.  No political discussion will be permitted whatsoever, including fund sourcing.  For many of you that have been posting in the LIV threads moderation will seem heavy handed for a time, but the LIV threads have eroded one of the founding principals of GolfWRX and one of the elements that make this place a safe haven on the internet.  Posts will be removed without notice or warning, and it will be within the moderators' full discretion to issue warnings and suspensions to members that can't help themselves.

Depends what their contract says. Even if you haven’t made it public, if you sign on the dotted line you are in. Did DJ and Bryson back out after signing and then come back in?

Depends on what the contracts states but they could be sued for breach of contract by LIV if they do indeed breach the contract.  With everything going on that would be a not good look for LIV though.  Not a situation I would want to be in that is for sure.

Norman has already said this, but can’t LIV boot any of the weaker players off?

They already have, poor Andy Ogletree.  LIV spilled the beans that they structured players contracts based on potential loss of future earning potential. He didn't have a whole lot so he probably had a severance payoff per say and was sent packing. I bet he is looking for insurance to sell at this point

It is the players, but those players are gainfully employed now, making more than they ever did on tour. Now they are suing for damages for not being able to play on a "non-profit" monopoly of a tour, when playing on that tour does not guarantee a paycheck, where as their current employer does.

I don't know that any of the above is relevant in regards to matters of law. As i mention to @Soloman1 , it seems silly and stupid to us, and in the business world i 100% agree that leaving your employer for a competitor and then demanding to work part-time for them seems hilarious....The pudding here is likely in how the PGA tour classifies themselves, they likely do not have the right to consider themselves a normal company under their non-profit status. Which likely has worked to their benefit many times prior to this but now is biting them in the behind

Keep in mind with all of the above, i am a moron. I don't know that any of it is true it just seems that might be what's going on

Of course he’s fine. My point is that if his sponsors don’t come back, he’s making less with LIV.

Looks an awful lot like a bunch of players blinded by money chose not to do their due diligence and put their faith in Norman, who in turn was blinded by a thirst for revenge on the PGA Tour (and money)...what could ever go wrong?

Taking legal advice from a well known self-serving guy nicknamed The Shark ...what could possibly go wrong?

Who would have thought the "Golf, but Louder" tour turned into a big participation trophy circus lol.

It’s super tough to get star golfers to come over without big money. Can’t have it both ways.

Interesting take, especially given the judges comments on how restrictive the LIV contracts are. It seems pretty clear LIV golf players are banned from playing in tour events if a LIV event is occurring at the same time (at the very least subject to forfeiting millions). Greg apparently thinks he is entitled to the entire dessert cart

Which is why they were lying about it. Kiss your OWGR points goodbye.

People wondering why Monahan banned players, this is why. Cam Smith might still go, but I don’t see any more big guys doing it especially after the inevitable OWGR points rejection.

New OWGR rules went into effect today which will reduce the number of points from tours, like the Asian Tour, which always have weak fields. They no longer get a guaranteed minimum point value for every tournament. It’s all based on the OWGR number for each player. *I think I explained this the way I heard it on Golf Channel.
