LIV Tour Discussion Thread (*** NO POLITICS ***)

Original plan is out the door. Now, what if PIF buy the DPWT, lift prize money to $15 million each tournament...and there is a lot of smoke about that...do you think that a lot of the guys on the PGAT who don't get a look-in to the 8 signature events may go and play the DPWT who will have that $15 million every tournament...plus the 72 holes comes into play for the LIV guys?

What is the situation with pga tour interest in dpwt? I see this (below) does it prevent a PIF/dpwt deal without pga tour approval? At least til 2036?

It's also a little bit more complicated than that. DP world is a Brand, and it's a title sponsor of the European tour. Not sure if it's a 10-year deal.

DP World is also a major sponsor for the Ryder Cup between Europe and the U.S.

So, all that comes into play along with the 40% stake.

Except they’re making less money in the U.S. than they are internationally.  Their best attended event has been Adelaide.

Thought I remembered reading in one of their filings that something like 50-60% of their total annual revenue comes from the Adelaide event.

I continue to contend that talking about economics related to LIV is meaningless, as they don’t care about the economics of their league.  I’d say the same about strategy, as the purpose of a business strategy is typically to maximize profitability.  LIV failed at its initial business plan.  What it’s doing now is less about pivots or strategy and more about simply continued existence and filling space on their calendar.  If their decision to enter the South African market was about ‘strategy’, they should fire whoever came up with said ‘strategy’.

So from all your post it seems you feel golf, professional golf that is, is US ONLY? That other pro golf is just minutiae?

When it comes to a business plan per se, since you note economics should be be a factor in the discuss then why care what they are doing? Everyone says the PGAT is fine, so let them do there thing tell they get bored.

Its an odd view honestly if you think econmics should not matter. All this is, pro golf, is a business and in business econmics are all that matters.  I will bite though, If econmics dont matter why did the PGAT need a investment of 1.5 Billion?

I read the same.  I read recently I think between Adelaide and the JCB event add up to about 60%-70%.

Maybe they keep moving to different places trying to find locations that draw enough to help or reduce loss.

The DP Tour actually owns the Ryder Cup.  If the report the PGAT did is acurrate and sure it was, it showed that DP Tour survives pretty much on the TV contract  and other aspects from the Ryder Cup.

*sorry dont recall specifics but seemed the PGAT findings on investing more into the DP Tour...it was a complete waste besides the Ryder Cup

Edit: As known the DP Tour asked the PGAT to invest more years before LIV.  They said no, which econmics the PGAT should have said no.   LIV approches DP Tour when starting up and suddenly the PGAT wanted to exercise its right to investment more.   If not there could have been a chance the DP Tour and PIF made some arrangement.

*Just a thought and observation. No judgement*

Interesting to me that this thread is so popular and it’s 98.5% ppl (myself included) trashing LIV. Have a PGAT event (yeah, it is The Wyndham) and a far better event in The Women’s Open happening as I type. Yet this thread is the most active. Could make for an interesting social experiment.

Okay, I need to eat my Cheerios 🥣 now 😊
