Stealth 3 wood: low and left all day

I got fitted for a Stealth driver about 6 weeks ago and it has been a great club. Game changer for me.   I use my 3 wood off the deck and on narrow tee shots.  Been in the market for a 3 wood and managed to hit one off a mat while at Pinehurst last week.  It worked fine.  I decided to wait until I got back.  The pro shop in my club had a stock 3 wood with stock TM Ventus 6 shaft just like the one I hit, so I bought it yesterday.   I used it today and it was completely different than my experience with the demo club.  Everything was low and left, all day and on the practice tee.  I can't believe that there would be that much difference.  I hit my driver great today, so I don't think it was a bad swing day.  Obviously I am not going to give up on it after one day, but I was wondering it anyone else has had such a difference between their demo and the one that they purchased.  I've never had trouble getting the ball into the air with a 3 wood before.  Could it have been that mat?  Is it cursed?

A few things to consider: was the shaft the same? Might be some manufacturing site variances that increased robustness of shaft.

 

And... check the actual loft of the 3W you have.

 

And... the grip. I bought a club sent with supposedly standard grip loose in box (I really wanted midsize). But, the grip was very thin even though I had local shop put +3 layers of tape underneath. If grip is too thin for you, extra hand roll may be delofting the club into a pull.

 

And... how about shaft length. Try choking down a half inch. This will flatten lie slightly; if club is rocking back on heel at set-up, this can cause the face to close down.

 

And... ball position on new club. If the ball is too far forward, the clubface could have closed down too much at impact and send the shot leftish.

It's cursed, lol.  Maybe you can ask the teaching pro if you can possibly test out a different shaft.  Something heavier might help.  Perhaps he can hit some balls to see if it's the club.  Exhaust all possibilities first and if all else fails, try to get a refund/credit.

My experience is different.  I am gaming the HL 16 Stealth with Ventus Velocore Red and for the first time in my life am able to hit a 3 wood off the deck.

Go back to your dealer, do every comparison you can against the OG 3 wood you hit. Get back in the hitting bay with the new and OG clubs and see what happens. If you are still left and low with the new club have them exchange it for another.

Stealth Plus 3W with Tensei Pro White shaft is the best/most consistent 3 wood I have ever played. I wanted to try a 5 wood so instead of doing the sane thing and buying the same Stealth Plus in 5 wood I bought a Cobra F8 with an Evenflow Blue shaft on eBay. Lol.

I play the original SIM and let’s face it, it’s the same as the Stealth with an old paint job. 
 

I always thought that these were some of the easiest fairways woods to hit, but I will say that they do sit a little too closed for my taste.

As much as I love TM woods, one thing we can say objectively about them is that their face angles are a little all over the place. It is not at all outside the realm of possibility that the one you ended up with is a degree or two more shut at address than the one you demoed. That and swingweight would be the first things i'd check.

It does look a bit closed at address.  Unfortunately I hit the demo 3 wood at Pinehurst and I'm now back in WV. So I can't directly compare it to the demo club.  There is something different about this club.  I suspect it is the shaft, but I don't know.   I'll try it again today.  I re-gripped it last night and added some extra tape.  It is a very thin grip that they put on these stock TM clubs.

I was in a store a few weeks ago and every Stealth I soled was either grossly closed or just barely square. Drives me nuts how all TM fairway woods are inconsistent.

I recently picked up a Sim 3HL and have been amazed at how closed it sits at address. I can hit the snot out of it but have to be super careful at set up.

I played another 18 with it and then hit some balls.  I hit it better than the first day and actually got some up in the air as well as a few fades.  It isn't very long and I seem to have trouble finding the sweet spot. It does sit closed at address and more than the sole of the demo version I hit.   I can't say I'm in love with this club.  I may put it up for sale.

Always buy the club you demo. Every head, shaft, grip combination is like a snowflake. Unique.
