So sad. Thanks for posting. I knew he was quite ill. I have one of his starter books, and actually lent it out to a couple of people. I might read it again this weekend. Rest easy Tom. Golfer, Designer, Coach.

watching old Masters and US Opens, he was always in the top ten. He was such a great player. 
 

My favorite quote from him was during the 1986 Masters. Jack was teeing off 16 and Weiskopf was asked by Nantz,  “What do you think Is going through Jacks mind ?” Tom answers “Well, if I knew the way he thought, I would have won this tournament”. Lol

The traits that kept him from winning more during his career were the ones that made him such a wonderful course designer.  He was burdened by huge expectations as a player but was allowed to be himself more as a designer and analyst.  As great a player as he was his legacy will be his design efforts and analysis.  Rest in peace.

16 wins, one major and 68 top three finishes . Great career playing among giants.

Sucks. Pancreatic cancer is one of the worst and one of the hardest to diagnose until it’s too late which then folks only have like a 10% chance of survival to 1-2 years.

Imma have a REAL hard time when Jack goes.

 

I cry enough when GC shows that Arnie series. Put that back to back with some Jack tribute and the stores around me are gonna run out of whisky.

One of my favorite players to watch in the 70's and 80's. He was full of emotion and kinda like watching Rahm today - fireworks could happen at any time (his nickname was Terrible Tom for a reason.) The 13 he posted on a par 3 at Augusta was epic. I used to play the Reserve in Indian Wells every summer when my buddy (an employee there) could get us on. It's a really nice course that he designed - private and beyond my disposable income level. Also enjoyed his PGA West course.

 

I hate seeing these legends leave us. It reminds me how old I'm getting.

Trevino will probably hit me the hardest. He was not only a great player he was/is a character.

I loved his comment in the 1986 Masters broadcast (the one that @BrianMcG posted above). Very funny, and also probably very true.

Has the pleasure of meeting him at an Open many years ago. My friend and I recognised him when others were walking past. Charming man, great swinger and brilliant designer. Loch Lomond is the finest inland course in Scotland,

Because of their common Ohio roots, the man he was most often measured against was Nicklaus. It was a standard that no other player of that generation could necessarily match, creating unfair comparisons. Weiskopf aptly described the challenge of going up against the 18-time major winner, saying: “Jack knew he was going to beat you. You knew Jack was going to beat you. Sad news, his day came well before my time but the two things that stuck out for me with Tom Weiskopf were his Open win and Loch Lomond. Such a shame that we just don't get to see that course on TV like we used to. Makes much more sense for the Scottish Open to be on links course but disappointing that we cannot get to see what was such a great looking course in a world class setting.
