Phil was right all along - PGA screwing it’s players

Would love to see someone in the press ask that to some of the outspoken players, hey was Phil right, look at what has happened?   Why did Phil pay a million to play a dual etc on thanksgiving weekend while Tiger and Rory now have their own Monday night money maker organized and approved?

money to be made on "Phil was right!" t shirts ?

Here, here.

FIGJAM wasn’t right about anything. The Tour is just playing defense in response to dirty money.
He’s a degenerate gambler with a mid life crisis who sold his soul for the cash.
When he was young, he thought he’d become the greatest. Unfortunately for him, a kid from Cypress,CA came along and since then he’s been overcompensating.

Phil was 100% right.

The truth is probably between those two bolded statements.

Maybe he was right, but also maybe his tactic of using the Saudis to leverage the PGA Tour wasn’t the best way to prove it.

Agree with this to an extent.  I just don't know what all the options are out there, especially for Phil individually.  At his age he could have just not played.  Boycotted.  But he is one guy.  He had to have others boycott and it seems a heck of a lot easier to convince guys not to play on the PGAT when there is a paying alternative ready.

So not paying out every cent an organization is screwing its members ?????  How so ? Couldn’t have ever run a business and think that way.  If you don’t keep a fund for a rainy day , well…. Your head gets wet quickly.  Eventually you drown.

this isn’t a positive happening for the tour.  More sideshow , less golf , and more cushion for the bottom isn’t going to up competition quality.

I want to better understand the media rights angle to all of this.  That might be where the real screwing over was occurring.  I for one don't really understand why Phil had to shell out a million dollars to play in the exhibitions.  Did BDC or the guys that played at Seminole?  What did the PGAT supply then that was worth the million?

I'll try if the WRXers would pay my expenses.

Just say the shirt is referring to Dr Phil, and he just goes by Phil

Leverage could have been created within the system.  MLB, NHL, NFL, NBA - all have had work stoppages coordinated by an organized group within the system.

Phil didn't need to screw the hooker - he (and others) could have committed to doing the work in-house. His actions were about greed and up-front money.  People love it because these days its more exciting to "blow it all up" than to work toward a resolution.  People like to see the buildings crumble, whether its in their best interests or not.

I would be curious to know how they could have created leverage?

The problem with comparing PGAT to other sports, is that other sports have unions, roughly 30 individuals (owners) that act as a closed group to deal with things that are collectively bargained for.  If the tour players decided to boycott an event they would be substituted for others.  It may draw some headlines, but probably nothing would have happened.  Not saying Phil was right or wrong, cause it is probably a combination, but the only way to force change was the nuclear option.

It's been reported multiple times that Turner Sports paid the 1 million, not Phil paying it out of his pocket - as he claims.

It's very doubtful that any "screwing" is happening and more likely that the PGA either didn't anticipate, hasn't adapted quickly enough or hadn't inserted language into existing media deals early enough to match the rapidly-changing digital rights landscape.

You don't think anyone would blink an eye if, say, the top 30 players boycotted an event?  That the Korn Ferry tour replacements would be satisfactory to advertisers and sponsors?   That's very interesting.
