MD/DC/VA Amateur Players Tour Fall series.

Hi all.  I play in the Maryland chapter of the Amateur Players Tour, which was a new chapter this past season.  Because of it being new the fields were a bit on the small side, so I'm trying to help get the word out about the tour.  You can see what courses they played by looking at this past season's schedule for MD chapter here:

There is also a Virginia chapter of the APT which played a number of tournaments this past season in Northern Virginia, so there are a lot of tournaments to choose from in the DC metro area.  The 2022 VA schedule is here:

This season the two tours are hosting a fall series, which is not yet on the official schedule, but the tentative schedule is:

 

October 22 - Little Bennett - Maryland

October 23 - Westfields - Virginia

October 29 - Richland - Maryland

October 30 - Heritage Hunt - Virginia

November 5 - PB Dye - Maryland

November 13 - Pendleton - Virginia

November 20 - The Highlands - Virginia

 

If you're not a member of the tour you can join for the 2023 season and you'll be able to take advantage of member discounts on entry fees starting with the fall series.  Or, if I recall correctly, you're eligible to play up to two tournaments as a non-member if you want to see what the tour is all about, but you're not yet ready to commit for a full year.

 

My experience is that everyone is taking it seriously enough that we're all trying to play our best, but we're also still out there having some fun playing golf.  In addition to prize money paid out in visa gift cards there are also optional skins games and closest to the pin contests, so even if you're having bad day there's still a chance of walking away with something.

Any member playing in 5 of the 7 fall events will be eligible to win the "Fall Series Champion" award in their flight (not sure what that entails) and also be entered into a drawing to receive a free entry fee into a spring tournament.

I just signed up for the tour. I met John and Dave a the Dulles Expo golf show. I will play a mix of MD an VA Tournaments. I signed up for the Links at Challedon event. Seems like a well run organization. I have always wanted to play competetive golf. I ain't getting any younger so decided to jump in. I look forward to seeing you out there. You and I will be playing in the same division.

Glad to hear you've joined!  John and Dave are great.  I've been playing golf with Dave for over 10 years.  I'm planning on playing as long as my schedule allows it... maybe we'll get paired up together!

I played my first APT event last weekend. It was a great time with a really great group of people. It was competetive golf without people being arrogant or overly competetive. The tournament was well organized from tee times running on time to the local rules for the day communicated well beforehand. There is live scoring thru the app and paper scoring to verify. You keep scoring for one of your playing partners in your group. I also like the fact that you only compete against people within your handicap division so no worries of a 20 hdcp shooting low and blowing you out. I am playing again next weekend and looking forward to it. If you have been wanting to dip your toe into tournament golf this is a great place to do it.
