SLIM (for skinny-legged people) shorts under $85 - recommendations?

Hey all,

 

This thread is aimed at those thin folk among us who require slim-fitting, synthetic shorts who can recommend shorts that aren't $135 (... and not the people with big thighs whose "athletic cut" shorts fit them snugly). Also, since I haven't been 19 for a long time, I'm also not looking for anything considered "tight" or short-shorts. What's out there?

 

I've seen lots of internet-based companies who appear to be putting out shorts that look slim and stretchy, but almost all of them are over $100. I just can't bring myself to pay that much for golf shorts at the moment. That, and most of the reviewers don't actually describe in their reviews how they fit beyond "FIT GREAT!"

 

I have found that G/Fore shorts seem to be pretty much what I'm looking for: synthetic, truly slim-fitting without looking like biking shorts, 9/9.5 inseam... Unfortunately, they retail for $145. (I snagged the one pair I have when they were on sale below $80.) I've also recently ordered a pair of Dunning shorts. They're not quite as slim as the G/Fores, but they also may be a bit too short. Just not sure about them yet.

 

Interested in hearing what you recommend. Thanks!

 

PS-- If you swear by a brand/style that doesn't fit the cost criteria, then let's hear your case (along with the price, please).

Lululemon Commission shorts are only $3 above your budget and awesome. I love my GFore shorts but these are great everyday options at a lower cost. Actually I prefer the LLL pocket setup over GFore.

shorts season is almost over for most of North America, so, you should be able to find some sales soon. Most of my more slim fitting shorts have come from Uniqlo, but, they're from a few seasons back.

Will check into them... if they have inseam choices in the 9" area. Know if they do?

EDIT: Just checked the site. I'd be looking at the 9" shorts -- but the "classic fit" (and the pics of them) has me thinking they're not "slim."

The LLL shorts are not baggy. They have a modern cut that is slimmer than your normal golf shorts. Perhaps a touch more loose than GFore but very close. Lululemon has an excellent return policy so I’d consider giving them a try. I added pics of me wearing 9” inseam LLL Commission shorts (with vest) and GFore shorts for comparison. 
 

Also don’t miss there’s a WMTM (we made too much) section that has discounted items, but beware WMTM items are final sale. 
 

Off topic- but if you like slim polos you have to check out Lululemon’s Metal Vent Tech series. They’re my favorite!

I buy O’Neil, Hurley, UA, and Volcom hybrid shorts from Ross/marshals/tjmaxx. They’re usually anywhere from $18-$25, are stretchy, and you can jump in the pool after a round if you want. I also have a couple pairs of Uniqlo and old navy tech shorts that work great

I'm definitely a slim.

 

I went Bonobos (7" inseam) this year and love them, very nice trim fit.  If you want something a bit longer, I got the Linksoul shorts last year and really liked them, slim and well made.

My buddy swears by these. I finally tried them a few years ago and they’re great. I now own 5-6 pairs. At 50% off they can’t be beat. Ive even bought the same color twice  😂

FYI, I tried the Lulu Lemon Commission shorts. The leg openings measure at 11", which I find to be a standard, too-wide opening. They weren't at all "slim" for me.

I was buying these as well. Got tired of the limited color selection and changed to Adidas 365 8.5"

I just got a few of the Bonobos shorts on sale (Highland Tour and Performance Golf) and I really like them. Many colors are on sale now for around $60. Their return/exchange policy is really easy/convenient. Give them a try!

Thank you. Now, some of the reviews say they got baggier from last year in '22. Know if this is true?

I don't know - this set is the first I have ever ordered.  Like I said, return policy is great, so I would just order and then return as needed.

Thanks. I've got some adidas shorts from a few years ago, and they're not particularly slim. But if today's shorts are, are they all slimmer fitting, or do they make ones that are labeled "slim"?

Greyson Montauk shorts are slim in the leg. More stretch than the G/Fore shorts as well.

They certainly look nice from the pics. $115, so way more than I'm interested in spending, but I see some colors are on sale. Inseam looks long at almost 10.5", but could get them hemmed. Thanks for the rec.

I'm a huge Greyson fan, but have never felt the Montauk shorts are overly skinny. Definitely not wide legged, but they don't wear as trim as the Montauk trousers, IMO. They recently released the same short in a "tennis" version that has an 8 inch inseam that I'm very interested in, but I've not tried them. The price is certainly an issue with Greyson, but they do run sales occasionally and there are other outlets from which to purchase at less than full price as well. I've bought many pairs of their shorts and have never sniffed the price range mentioned in the title.

All in motion by target, their golf cargo shorts are the slimmest I've found. Pants are nice and slim/straight too.

In case you go this route, the grey is a little weird, has lots of purple undertones. Haven't noticed any other strange ones
