My old mans friend Vance Hefner was Director of Golf for years until he passed a few years back. Vance's Dad was Clayton Hefner and he and my old man were friends. Never met Clayton he passed away a couple of years before I was born. Clayton started and built Eastwood GC in Charlotte and his family operated it until they sold it in the 90s. Of course like 99% of the old school courses I grew up on there is sadly gone

Of course never at that level and never 12 under, we've all had days where everything worked.  Fred was on autopilot, catching some good breaks with fortunate bounces.   Bottom line - he made a lot putts.  

 

 

I reflect on a round I shot 10 years ago, almost to the date - I bogeyed #1 and then made 17 straight pars. 

My mind was in a state of relaxed focus.   I consider it the best round of my life.

Yep.  Also been there on my own level. And it’s funny you say that.  I hit my opening tee ball OB on a par 5.  Made par , and shot under par ( not trying to brag with the score ) and got called out for yawning on a tee box wait on 16 tee. Lol.  I wasn’t even there man.  I wasn’t anywhere.  My body showed up to play.  My brain was still in bed.  
 

ibe been there a couple times. It’s the best high on earth.

It's a zone - I hate to say that.  Hands, body and mind working together.  No sound of the ball impacting the club.  The divots are perfect -  dollar bill sized and shallow.  A plane could crash and you wouldn't hear it.   In the moment there is no tangible reason for why it's happening.

one of my favorite old school traits of his is his ability to hit left and right with ease..though his buttery cut is where it’s at!

Is that a flex twist graphite shafted Taylormade metal? Because if so, very nice! That was a properly good golf club. 
 

I still have my TM three wood of that vintage shafted with a EI-70 in my Phil Mickelson inspired Yonex 90’s bag. Every time I hit it, I wonder why I don’t use it with my modern stuff. 
 

Edit: whoops, just read above that it’s a cobra 3 wood. Of course all us wrxers are going to zero in on the golf club and breeze right past how you nail the club on shoulder Freddie/J. Daly follow through. Extra points for the saddle shoes as well. Even more points if you can dig up a picture wearing a pair of black shoes with matching black quarter cuff socks.

I watched him on the range and some on the course down in Florida year before last at a Champions event. He was hitting a draw pretty exclusively. And a proper push draw at that. Thought I heard or read he switched to drawing the ball. Have to think he still has that cut in the feels bank whenever he needs it, though.

Saw a video on one of my feeds this week where he was trying out another one and compairing the 2. I know one of them he was cranking and liking it

ONLY other old golf photo unless I start digging into my "box of things" with the newspaper clips of my old high school golf team is this one ... which is during the transition from casual country club aenemated to weirdo punk rocker aenemated ... hence the bleached cornrows (my brother's erstwhile wife did that)

I much appreciate your coping to the duds. I still like to rep a similar cut with my trousers and shirts. I had a closet full of the Ashworth. I also have vague memories of the constant state of being a little too close to heat exhaustion hoofing the hoofer around summer junior golf tournaments under that weight of cotton. 
 

I hope you still have that good of footwork in your swing. It’s not easy to roll into the instep on the lead and onto the toe of the trail foot like you’re doing there.
