Elevate Tour Vs Project X LZ

Hi guys! Has anyone compared these two? I’m interested in Elevate Tour X and LZ 6.0

Can't hit either to try where I live so any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Coming from AMT S300 in T100 irons, and getting some PXG GEN5 XP irons for jiggles but since lofts on those are stupidly strong I want a higher launching/spinning shaft. I don’t know my iron SS but my Driver swing speed is around 110 with fast tempo.

Thanks in advanced!

Too stout for my swing speed.  However my son (who plays to scratch) hated the PX LZ.  He said they felt like a dead shaft.  He went back to regular PX Rifle 6.0 when he bought his 620 CBs.  He has a set of PXG (one of the P models, not sure which Gen) with TT Elevate S and loves the flight but doesn't like the head.

Hope that helps.

I think Elevate Tour S300 rather than X100 would be a better match to the LZ 6.0. That said, to me the difference in the Elevates seemed more about the weight than the stiffness, so I suppose you could go either way depending on whether the 6.0 is at the bottom of your preferred weight range or the top of it.

Previously I’ve wound up with the LZ 6.0 as a top ranking fit, but I wasn’t thrilled with them in real life. That said I still play the LZ wedge shafts in SW and LW.

I’ve tried a bunch of shafts in that mid-weight range since coming down from heavy shafts a couple years back and I’m in the Elevate Tour S300. I’d have never tried them if it hadn’t been the stock shaft in a PXG fitting, but I’m really glad I wound up in them.

Really seems to me like both shafts should fit a wide variety of players.

Just give the Elevates a fair shake in the PXG fitting. There’s so much bias against stock shafts but they are excellent and I can tell you they’re great in my 0211ST set.

Shaft choice is a very personal thing. My experience is quite the opposite from @OnTheBag's son's.

I was on TT test panel and tested PX LZ when it first came out.. both steel and graphite versions.. To me, they are the best feeling shafts I have tried to date. I still have a set of now distinct graphite LZ Tour 90S sitting there and looking for heads worthy to put on them.

Now I am playing Elevate Tour X in my PXG irons. Have the original version in 0211ST and version 2 in 0311ST Gen 4. Many people seem to hate them, but seems mainly because no one on tour uses them. Well I could care less but I am perfectly fine with them. They are the lighter version of original DG and suppose to flight higher to counter today's aggressive lofts. I am not seeing much difference in flight at all compare to original DG X100, S300 or S400. In fact I can barely tell the difference between the Elevate and original DG. I do felt the original version paired with 0211ST felt better than new version in the 0311ST, not sure yet if it's the shaft or the heads.

Feel wise, I'd say LZ feels much better. So much so that the 6.0 we tested felt soft to flex when they are really not. I don't know if that's what turned some off on those. LZ design has a softer mid-section to help with shaft loading.. it more or less mimic the profile of famous Diamana Blueboard which was legendary for its silky smooth feel. They could very well feel dead to some because you don't feel the kick nearly as much as some others.

I need to point out though, Tour X and LZ 6 are not on the same flex, you need to go to 6.5 for LZ for a true x flex. PX typically launched much lighter than DG line so if you are concerned about the flight, you might want to consider the PX LZ shafts.

I have played both…had a set of 921 Hot Metals with the LZ 6.0 and still own a set of Gen3 P’s with Elevate X’s.
For me the LZ felt good but too soft, felt like everything was getting up in the air and hanging there and coming up short on my shots, dispersion left and right was perfect but not front to back. The Elevate to me feel perfect weight wise and feel and do everything I expect them to. The Elevate X don’t feel like a X-stiff to me, more like a firm stiff.

Agree. Tour elevate X feels soft to flex.

I agree the lz is only lively in the 95g shaft. Anything above felt boardy stiff and heavy. Wierd because the project x rifile 6.0 feels better overall. The elevate is probably ok. Only swing it a few times. Feels nice but they say it spins more which i dont need on my irons.

I’d be curious to hear more on this. Did the new version drop the VSS insert entirely? Is it a big difference to you? I know it can be tough with different heads. I ask because I love them in my 0211ST set and I’ve got a failed experiment set of Wilson Staff Model irons that I’ll pull the Modus 115 out of. Those heads are awesome but don’t bring much money so I’m considering keeping them and the new version Elevates are cheaper and more readily available as pulls compared to the version I have.

Any further thoughts would be appreciated. Could discuss via PM if it gets too far off-topic but at the same time I can’t find any info about the differences so it seems relevant to keep it here.

TIA!

Can’t answer your question exactly, but I have both versions of the Elevate.
My set in Gen3’s are the X-stiff V1 versions, while my new 0211’s have the V2 stiff flex.  I switched to stiff just wanting to have a slightly less heavy shaft and hoping to prolong and help with some of my injuries over the years (bad knees, back occasionally). Now the one thing I did before gripping my clubs is installed “prosoft inserts” to mimic the V1’s. So far they feel the same as far as vibration and the 5g less weight has been good for me. Helped launch the ball slightly higher then before but still give me everything I had before and keeps me fresh the whole round.

I haven't played the Elevate Tour. I had the first version of the 105 in my Mavrik Pros and Played Project X LZ 6.0 in Hot Metal Pro 921 for a short time.  Generally I liked the Elevate a bit better. I didn't love or hate the feel of the LZ but liked the weight, I didn't play them long enough to make a solid judgement.

I ended up with the HMPs with LZ because the Elevate Shafts kept breaking. I had 3 shafts break in exactly the same place all at impact with the ball. The shafts all broke near the shaft label where the VSS foam insert is. In all 3 cases the insert was rust colored and the inside of the shafts rusty. My clubs to my knowledge were never submerged and stored in a dry place. I never contacted TrueTemper as Callaway took care of me and I have the Rifle 105 tour flighted shafts in there now. Purely speculative, but I wonder if the issue I experienced wasn't isolated and if that is why the new Elevate MPH shafts don't appear to have VSS.

From description it definitely seems like V2 no longer has VSS insert. This is my first and only set with VSS and I honestly didn't even think of it when I said I preferred the feel of 0211 set over the Gen4 ST. The Gen4+V2 just don't feel as crisp and pure as 0211+V1. I really can't say for sure if the VSS is what made the difference but it is certainly possible.

If you get a wild hair and try out the prosoft insert please let me know the results!

Personally I think that fits 6.0. My ss is just about 2 mph faster and the 6.0 worked better. But remember difference between the two is also 5g (115g for the 5.5 and 120g for the 6.0)

So if weight affects you take that into consideration.

Hi all. Does an 85mph swing speed with 7 iron match better to a 5.5 or 6.0 in LZ? My transition is quite fast. Thanks.

My opinion- with LZ choose based on the weight class that fits you best, don't get too hung up on the flex designation.

Great advice right there. I think thats becoming more through of a lot of shaft offerings. Focus on the weight more than the flex especially since the lighter weights came on the scene - which may not suit a lot of guys who have spent most of their playing careers so far in 120g.

  • 2 months later...

I put in LZ 6.0 into my irons last week, had AMT Black S300 prior to that.  Those started feeling loose as my swing speed increased and transition became more aggressive.  A few things I noticed.

1.  Distance is slightly down, BUT I am hitting numbers way more consistently.  The weaker fades go further, but the strong draws dont go as far.

2.  Being lazy with these shafts does not work (at least for me).  The stuff I got away with AMT blacks does not work here at all, but once committed to every swing these definitely go straighter.
