Apple Watch Ultra & Tag app

Yes, it’s the Tag app. No need for their watch. Works flawlessly for me. Yes subscribing is mandatory but I like it better than my S62 or rangefinder

It's a great app, I have it, however I barely use it.  I use my rangefinder way more as I find it way more convenient.  I still want a range finder where there is a gps within the viewfinder.

I get two/three days out of it. One and a half if I golf.

Nope. I silence them on the watch during a round. Never see or hear them.

Interesting. I stopped wearing my watch due to too many mid swing notifications. Had no idea I could silence them.

Would it be too much trouble to give an update on the Ultra for golf and personal use?  Sounds like there are some pros and cons when compared to something like the S62.  Are you still enjoying it?

I returned my ultra. It’s a bit too chunky for me for golf. Tried a bunch of different straps. It’s OK, but not great balance wise.

I still love it. With the Tag app , Beats my S62 and I have smaller wrists and never even notice the size. Easy shot distance reporting, scorecard is a breeze. Very happy with it! Day to day, I receive dozens of work texts each day and well over half are answered from the Ultra either by voice or suggested replies. This is the first watch that has truly benched my Rollies, Omega, and Breitlings.

I got the Ultra and Tag app after reading this thread. Coming from a Series 3, it’s a big upgrade. Most notably, the battery is phenomenal for golf. I have at least three golf apps on my wrist at once as I’ve tried the Tag app. 
 

Arccos tracks a full round and more. No more flipping to a phone on the 15th hole, no more using the caddy link and editing shots on the phone in round. Watch only.
 

18Birdies I use during round for yardages on my phone and the watch app is ok. I keep it in the background. 
 

Tag app - the most beautiful watch app that doesn’t work well yet for me. I’ve tried it over four rounds and just never had it follow me properly around the course. I have some ideas about that and I need to play around to isolate what I’m not doing correctly. Separately, I’ve had a very funky bug where I’ll have the Tag app open and, without any interaction on the watch, it switches screens. When I manually find myself on a hole on the watch bc auto hole advance isn’t happening, I do find it useful in determining distances and for decision making. I just hope I can clean it up for the gps. 
 

as for the watch, I wear it occasionally off the course and have a whole bunch of old straps that still fit well. With the older watch the buttons would be hit by my glove regularly. That’s not an issue with the Ultra. Great golf watch. 
 

Edit: Had chance to try LX5C gps watch and found while the weight was awesome and comfortable I was really perturbed with how slow it was.

I have the Ultra as well that i use with Arccos. I had an older 4 series that had terrible battery life before i switched so it never lasted a full round before. I can vouch for the Ultra lasting a round and then some. I don't notice the size at all playing golf or just wearing it normally. I really thought it would be too big and/or heavy but that's not the case at all for me

You can have the Tag app use the watch GPS or phone GPS.

I don’t think so as I have gps set to watch, hole tracking is set to on. 
 

It’s probably something to do with the system location sharing settings or app score tracking (which I don’t use). It was 64F today but didn’t get out with my playing partners, unfortunately. Will have to wait some more to try to diagnose the issue further. 
 

Probably reinstall in the interim.

I have the Apple Watch series 8. I use a rangefinder for all most shots into the green but like to have a GPS app to track score and for layups and longer shots where accuracy isn't as critical. Been testing out the TaylorMade app and like it, it's free for the basic features that I want, they do offer a subscription plan if you want advanced features like shot tracking.

Got the Tag app to work on my watch and it’s beautiful and useful. The distance lines are extremely helpful and easy to use. Beautiful graphics and hole tracking was working. 
 

Pretty sweet little app. Love the watch.

I just picked up the Ultra and I’m trying to decide on the best App to use.

Tag seems promising but I have a few questions:

 

Does It have auto shot detection (like the S62) or do I have to mess with it after every shot?

Does it provide stats such as fairways hit, GIR’’s, etc.?

is there a web based component to review and edit rounds and stats?

I don’t use those features - I just use the mapping feature - but it does have an Auto track first shot as a setting.
 

From checking out my app, there is a record shot and an enter score button on the watch and phone. The scorecards have Fairways and GIRs on them with some other stats.

 

When entering the score on the app you can select if you hit the fairway. There is no similar feature on the watch face. I don’t know if that means it uses gps to determine this or if you need to refine on watch. GIR is auto calculated it seems. 
 

There may be an online component to the membership but I don’t know about it.

Not sure what this is responsive to; I have no problem paying for the app. I was just hopeful to get some feedback on a few questions beforehand.
