KREW Putters Picture/Discussion Thread

This week a friend @MattM97 sent me some information about KREW Putters out in Chicago, IL.  They are offering 20% off of a custom build until Nov 11th. 

 

Needless to say, I submitted a build sheet, spoke to Jordan on the phone, and am now in the queue.

 

They are really making some cool putters. Their blade is a really nice shape, quality finishes, and really creative stamping/engraving.  IMO some really good bang for your buck with a Leather grip and Dormie HC.  

 

I will be posting as I go through the process! Feel free to post any pictures if you are an owner of one currently.

Taking a look at some of their ready mades for sale, it looks like its the cavity backs are more hollow than most resulting in a what looks like a thinner than most cavity wall to the face (hope I'm explaining myself clearly but likely not).  Will be good to hear your feedback on feel when you get yours.

It's tough to tell from pictures. Regardless the thickness of the face is rarely thought of by most golfers.

I place lot of emphasis on face thickness when I speak to a builder. For me, it has a strong correlation to how I perceive feel and feedback.

Face thickness is also important to me.  I think that's the main reason I gravitate to the Mills putters, they provide a more meaty feel without the ting sound of the thin cavity.

Oh totally. I understand some people may prefer a thicker face.  Those are called WRXers lol.

I've been traveling for work, I just send back my build sheet to Krew with some updates. I'm really open to letting Nick have some fun with the build, gave him 3-4 finish options with each metal so let the creativity juices flow.

 

Milling I hate soft so showed them the max depth I wanted, would prefer smooth cause I can always send it back for a re-milling. 

 

One weird thing is they never asked for info on the neck, like I told them the neck I want but they never asked for offset or toe hang so I provided that along with head weight, I assume 350g-ish is standard but just wanted to clarify. 

 

Also sent some request for softening on the bumper and topline which they've done in past build and really appeal to me. I assume it all can be done and I end up with a nice surprise of a putter. Normally I'd design it myself but I tend to lean on the plain but well done and with their creativity I figured a splash of something creative will look good in my collection.

Sent a request in earlier and had a phone conversation with Jordan. Seem like great guys and very knowledgeable. To answer your question @MattM97 they told me the weight is in the 355-360 range. I asked about the toe hang (looking at flow neck) and he said it was very similar to what I sent him a pic.

I asked 350g-355g but I have no issue with 360g so that's fine. What pic did you send asking about toe hang?

I think that's roughly what I asked for as well like 45-55° so will just wait on the response before I drop my deposit.

My phone conversation did include toe hang, I asked for 30-35* and a longer flow neck.  

 

We didn't discuss weight, but on the build sheet I specificity 360. 

 

Like Matt, I selected almost everything to be "kraftsman choice". I did request carbon with the black oil quench finish. It's very nice imo.

Agreed.  My legacy goods has a thicker than most face and I much prefer the feel and sound.  One of my sticking points is different sounds off the face, I hate a ting spot on putters.

Similar to this putter with my own twists…diff color, stamps, alignment, no hammering on bumpers etc.

Paid my deposit on Nov 11th and paid my balance 10 days later on the 21st because my putter is done. 

 

Now I don't think this is common cause a 10 day turn around is insanely fast. I just think cause I said go wild, have fun and my specs were very simple to hit. Nick probably just grabbed my head, sketched something up, stamped it, painted it and done.

 

They did send me pics and it was definitely a surprise for me and something I wouldn't have thought up to be honest. But just from pics they hit what I wanted clean look at address and a bit wild in the cavity and sole. 

 

I'll share some pics later.

I should really upload my work and do my expenses so I don't lose out on money, that's putter money there lol. 

 

I'll probably do it tomorrow while on a morning meeting cause they are useless.

Picked up my Krew from my mail box, took a little while on my end cause holiday flood. It's quite nice, I didn't noticed in the pics I posted above but it's a two tone putter, actually I'll check if the neck is satin 303 or carbon, if carbon will definitely let this bad boy rust. 

 

One thing I will say is even though this was a "Makers Choice" and Jordan did ask for a lot of what should be done to the putter they didn't hit that on a few minor things. I sent a pic for the face milling I wanted, it wasn't it but they did do within the range I asked for and it feels nice so no real complaints there. I did ask for a rolled top line and it doesn't really look rolled to me, it's not dead square so I'll assume some work was done. Bumpers were softened but not as much as I asked for, still looks nice.

 

Sounds like I'm b*tching but I'm not they just wanted to put down specifics on the build sheet despite me originally giving a range and then they went and did a "Maker's Choice" on half of the stuff I asked for. Just a head scratcher to me that's all, if I said "Maker's Choice" and they said ok and gave me this I'd be happy, right now I'm still happy it's a really nice putter. 

 

Other stuff it's well made no denying that, looks nice, feels nice after the putts I rolled on carpet. Came with a black Krew branded Best Grips Paddle, a Dormie cover, black stepless shaft.

 

I'll do my best to grab some photos this weekend.

Wow, I understand why you could be a little put off. I haven’t heard a peep since I paid my deposit so hoping they get my stuff correct when I get it.
