Title is pretty much it... Do you remember what you shot on you very first hole of your first round of golf?

For me, I had a 13 on a par 4.  I was in 8th grade playing at a course that is now a neighborhood.  I'm playing on Sunday with my same friend that I played that 1st round with.

Can't remember the score, but I do remember the hole.

#1 Kennedy, short course, Denver, CO. Had to have been 1980 or so.

Been many years, but imagine it's still playing about 80 yards.

If forced to guess, I'd say I probably made a 5.

I don’t remember my score.

But my 11 year old brother made 2 on the first hole we ever played. We started at an executive course that had a range. We’d had lessons and practiced a fair bit before heading to the course with our dad.

The first hole is a 75 yard par 3 and my bro made 2. A little while later, my brother then made 3 on the first hole (par 4) on a regular golf course we played. Dude remains a birdie machine.

I’m with @jholz!

Rammler Golf Course, Sterling Hts, Michigan par 3 course circa 1970, age about 12.  Hole 1 is 120 yards and score wasn’t par for sure.  😂  We virtually lived on that course after discovering golf.  $3 for 9 holes? Fun times.

We used to dread the 9th at a whopping 227 yards up a rise tho.

At 40yrs old, I took up golf.  Before that never touched a club.  Golf was a pus** sport.  But I was invited to play with buddies, so quickly bought a complete set of Pings off the LGS shelf, and that weekend showed up on the first tee, for my first-ever round.

Don't recall the first hole score, just the finishing score.  Only reason I recall was when walking off 18, the guys (all were once college golfers) asked me if I knew what I had done; I said nope.  Ninety-four (94) impressed them; it surely didn't impress me.  But inside 4yrs was an 8 index, and two years later a 2 index and giving strokes to them.  Anything is possible if YOU want it badly enough.

I can barely remember what I ate for lunch yesterday. You want me to remember my first hole on a golf course that was probably 35 years ago?!?!

I can say with relative confidence that my first round ever was probably at the [now closed] Village Links GC in Lombard, IL. I don't think my dad would have taken me out to a regulation track. The first hole is was a downhole par 3 running about 125 yards IIRC. Don't hook the ball or you might be smashing windshields on Finley Rd! But the only reason I remember that hole as well as I do now is that I played at that course a fair amount over the course of my childhood, and as soon as I was old enough to legally work, I worked as the course starter for a summer. So I know it well...

31 minutes ago, nitram said:

5, on a Par 4, in a high school district playoff match.

Wait, the first hole you ever played in a round of golf was in a "district playoff match?" That's got to be a story...

Team captain attacked by squirrel? Mongoose? Who can replace them?

Had to pull a young hopeful out of the crowd at a pivotal moment in the match?

At that moment, a young, hungry @nitram emerges from nowhere to step in and carry the team to victory with a clutch bogey. I can see it now...

Just let me know if you'd like to try to develop a screenplay...😜

It was the annual "caddie day" tournament at the private club I was caddying at, I was 14 years old.  I was teamed up with a member and his wife who had volunteered to play with any caddie who needed a partner for the event, which was a gross and net better ball of caddie-member partners. I was assigned a handicap of 54 by the pro. I had explained to him that despite having caddied for probably 50 rounds at that point and having gone to a driving range many times, I had never played on a course.

The first hole was a par 5, I distinctly remember holing out my seventh shot, a topped 9 iron from 100 yards, for a gross 7 net birdie. That score mattered as my partner made a bogey and didn't get any strokes on that hole. My total score ended up being a 126, so that 54 handicap was spot on. We ended up winning third prize in the net division and I won a dozen Titleist Tour Balatas. The member was extremely patient with me on the course and insisted I finish every hole where my score would still make a difference in the net better ball of partners since I was getting 3 strokes on every hole. Basically trying to give me a lesson in not giving up while I was still in the competition, as I was 14 and starting to get pretty vocally discouraged a few times along the way.

I don't remember what I shot on the first hole I played (480 yd par 5). The first shot I remember was my tee shot on the 277 yd 3rd and my drive cleared the large mound/small hill in the middle of the fairway. I don't live there anymore but by using Google pedometer I was able to get a number. 89 yds.

I was ten years old when my mom bought me a starter set at ZAYRE. My dad said, “driving range and backyard only until next year”. So, I hit plastic balls around our yard and got to hit real golf balls at the driving range a few times each month. Finally, after almost a year, I got to play 9-holes on a real golf course. My dad took me to our local municipal course. We played the white tees. The first hole was a downhill 411 yard par 4 which looked very long to this 11-year old. I recall my drive. It started straight down the middle, sliced about 25-yards, and rolled out. Total distance ~120 yards. My dad was encouraging so all’s right with the world. I cannot recall another shot that day, 54-years ago!

Great question, and I wish I could remember.

I do recall the first shot I hit on a golf course. It was a muni with a lot of older guys standing around the first tee. I think I was about 12, and I didn’t know to be nervous or whiff or take a huge divot with that tiny little Pittsburgh Persimmon metal wood, so I walked up to the tee box and hit a great shot right into the fairway. I don’t have a clue how far it went, but it was farther than I thought I could hit it, and much straighter!  Got lots of encouragement from the group of oldsters hanging out there.

That is a memory I’ll have forever. 🙂 Sadly I don’t recall the next swing, which was certainly not as good 🤣, and no idea the score.

Ping. Play Your Best.

98... at 12 years old. The year before, my Dad would drop me at the range when he played every Saturday AM. He wanted me to have at least some 'skill' before he would take me out to the course (West Sayville on Long Island). So... I just "Range Monkey'd" every week for that summer and most of the next until he thought I was ready. First tee, first shot was a slice that I thought might come back to me I was so nervous- people watching, my Dad watching, etc... I DID find it, knocked it back into play and went on from there.

Broke 100- oh, and everything counted since I was playing with my Scottish Grandad as well- <Sean Connery type voice> "Count every shot, Laddie". Actually beat my Dad by 8. MUCH later on in life before he passed, he brought that up. He was filled with some mixed emotions. He was annoyed that I beat him, but proud that I beat him as well. Didn't beat Grandad, though.

I don't remember the score, but I remember I was about 9, the hole was #1 at Gearhart, and I was using my aunt's clubs and shoes. The shoes were old school wingtip loafers with kilties and metal spikes, and the clubs were persimmons painted yellow to match her yellow floral bag, old school Wilson Staff blades, and topped off with a Bullseye putter.

Sadly, I did not get hooked on golf after that outing and unfortunately waited until much later in life become a sicko.

I don't remember the first hole score, but I do know first ball sailed OB right.

I do remember the first par, it was the same day. Short par 3 over a gulch, thought I pulled a 9i, that was actually a 6i. Skulled the heck out of it, made it over the gulch and ran to the back of the green. 2 putts for an easy par.

The only thing I remember about my 1st round is I played with my Dad. I was 7 years old. Coming up on 60 years ago.

Sadly I don't remember much of anything about the 10? rounds we played that year.

But I do remember that I loved everything about it. Being with my dad. I know he loved it as well.

Considering how little I remember, it was the greatest time of my life, was and have been hooked on the game ever since.

Jeez- I just actually read the title of the thread. I thought it was "round" , not "hole"... duhhh...

But yes- it was a 7, after that sliiiiiice and getting it back into play on a par 5. thinned one down the fairway. then a beautiful 130 yard approach... to a green that was only 110 yards away. chipped on, 2 putt.

No idea for myself but one of my kids (a teenager, about 2y ago) holed a 30-40 yd shot on his first ever hole. I forget what he actually got on the hole, bogey or double probably but it was a long par 4. It was also all downhill from there. He hasn't really taken the game up but he did have a memorable 1st hole.
