Iron length question

I recently picked up some new ZX7's with the Modus 105S shafts.  In comparing them with my current clubs (2019 T100) I noticed the 6, 7, 8 are longer.  The 8 iron is 3/4" longer, the 7 is 1/2" longer and 6 is 3/8" longer.   I've measured them and sure enough, they are longer than the specs indicate.  Do I just have the local shop fix them, or do I swap out the clubs for the same set with 120X shafts?  I'm coming from KBS $-Taper 120.

 

I guess this is a 2 part issue.. first getting the clubs fixed to the right length, or swapping the clubs out, but the only other ones they have, have the 120X shaft 😕  

 

Any advice would be appreciated.

Saying how they are different from another set doesn't really tell us anything.

 

What are the actual lengths of all the clubs in the set?

And what method was used to make the length measurement?

 

As far as whether to play the Modus 105 S or the $-taper 120's X - you haven't given us any information to help with which shaft might be a better fit for you.  And those two shafts are VERY different from each other.  You don't make that decision because of the lengths - whatever they might be.  You make it because one would be a better fit for you than the other, whether due to the difference in weight - or the difference in stiffness.   And to be honest, the only information that might help is info or data on how they each feel relative to the other or some type of performance comparison (ball) data for the two shafts.

Both shafts in question really are drastically different. Not only different in weight but flex. That combination can make for very different feel and results. 

 

Any club builder can grab a set and chop them down. There isn't much to it. You'll likely lose the grips aswell.

Thanks for the replies.  Upon further review, I noticed the 6,7,8 have the 120s shaft and the rest have the 105s shaft 🤷‍♂️  My local dealer is going to replace the set 👍

 

I hit the 105s in the fitting bay and liked the feel better than my current $-Taper 120.  I’ve heard the 105s plays closer to an R flex and am a teensy bit concerned that might be a little too weak.  was just curious if the 105x is significantly stiffer than the S..

The common way I believe is for irons to progress 0.5" for each step (so say, 39" for 5, 38.5" for 6, 38" for 7 etc.) Maybe that's something good to look at for your new set to see if they at least have a consistent offset in between numbers

I dont think the 105s play like a "regular" flex...They are quite light and not super stiff. If you compare then with a DG r300 you may just get thay notion. 

 

Personally, I would test what you have first and then decide....if not, pull the shafts, put in your preffered iron shaft, and dont look back. Have some confidence in your clubs.

The manufacturer's specifications are merely suggestions as to what they think is best for a "normal" golfer.

A good fitter will adjust the club as needed to best fit your swing.

 

My 22* 5 iron is really short and light, but I've done a lot of testing and found what fits me best.

If you actually hit them and liked the feel, then that tells us that they are not too weak for you.  That's the ONLY thing that's important when selecting a shaft - how they felt and worked for you.  The only way a shaft can be too weak is if they feel too soft or too weak when you hit with them and/or you can not get decent results with them because of the stiffness feel.
