Bushnell Focus Issue

My old 1600 pro finally stopped working well enough so i picked up a pro x3. i took it outside to mess around with it, and when I turn the focus all the way left, the black display fades out to the point it can't be seen. rotate the focus the other way and its fine. it's basically like under 30 yards you either cant focus or cant read the display. is this a bad device or do all bushnells do this now?

 

more info. its almost like rotating the focus tunes the dimness of the display.. turn it all the way left its transparent.. turn all the way right its vivid.. similar happens with the red display on but it goes blurry instead of transparent when rotating focus.

This is all range finders they're meant to see a long ways away not something right in front of you. I have a few high end arborist lasers I use for work and up close it's very blurry but at that point just point and shoot.

Then why advertise as 5-1300 yards if the yardage can't be read until you tune the focus? 

You can tune the focus so you can clearly see something 10 20 30 yards away.. But when you do that the display disappears.. Or you can tune the focus so you can see the yardage display but the image becomes blurry and can't be sure you're hitting your target.. The 1600 pro did not have this issue.

All Bushnells do this. I’ve come to stay away from Bushnell. Significantly cheaper options with way better customer service out there. 
That being said; a lot of range finders do this. Throughout all companies.

Interesting. Glad I went with a cheaper option from a different brand. Harry Taylor to be specific. Can be had for around $150. Super pleased with it. And no issues with focus as described in the OP.
