7iron comparison at 2nd Swing

Went to a local 2nd Swing today and tried out a bunch of 7 irons against my T100S 7 iron. Here are my thoughts on the irons i tried:

Ping i230 - Good looking iron in person, nice shape, sound, and pretty good feel. I couldn't really get into a groove with them though and that could be due to the to the fact they they didn't have the PX 6.0 shaft for Ping, so I had to use the PX IO 6.0. Recommend people to try them.

New P770 - Good feeling iron and also performed pretty well. The sound and feel of it is something I'd have to get used to.

Mizuno 223 - Good iron, but I could not get into a groove with it. Hit one really good shot but the rest weren't great

Cobra Tour MiM - Awesome iron, and probably the best feeling out of them all (in comparison to my T100s). Actually had the really good numbers in comparison (same ball speed, 5 yards less carry, 800 rpm more spin, and the MiM is at 34* loft for the 7iron we hit and we checked it on the machine. Never hit a cobra iron but out of all of them, they felt the best, pretty forgiving, and had awesome performance.

Cobra Forged Tec - Good iron, a bit larger than others but would be a good club in the longer irons.

The fitter was great, and I will actually be coming back in a number of weeks as they will have the new Cobra Tour irons, which are gonna be a tad smaller, forged, and have similar level of forgiveness as the MiM. The problem with the MiM is that they can only be bent 1* degree either way. If I don't like the new Cobra Tour irons in the follow-up testing, I could order the current MiM ones at 33* or 32* stronger which should perform better than my current T100S with better spin and more forgiveness. They are also only $899 a set at the moment and when the new version comes out they can be had for a good deal.

2nd swing is great.  I use to love going into 2nd swing and just trying equipment.  They moved from my area a long time ago, but i still order from them.

... Exactly my experience! I was playing the T100S's and was completely content with everything about them and had no plans to change. But I demoed the MIM Tours and they were just a little better in every way. Even though they are the same size, the MIM's look just a tiny bit larger providing more confidence on my off days. Feel is the best of any iron I have ever hit including many MB's. Sadly many here won't even try them in spite of many glowing reviews including your comment "had awesome performance" because KING is too large for their fashion sense. 🙄

I honestly was one of those people, but I wanted to try them. And I was REALLY impressed. I found out that the 7iron head we used was 34* and it produced the same ball speed as my 32* T100S. More forgiving, better flight, better spin, better dispersion, etc etc. Kind of a no brainer. Would be curious to see performance in a 33* degree head or even 32* head.

I played Cobra FP irons a long time ago. The rumor was that they were made at the same factory that made titleist. Not sure how true that was but they were really nice clubs. They did have the big box name one them but they did fine for me for about 2years.

I then moved on to Mizuno irons and played them until just this December when I sold my Mizunos for a sweet set of i230’s

IMO the i230 irons are amazing. But my review is subjective since I have not got to use them outside yet. But I think I will like them very much. Not as buttery as a mizuno but. A powerful feel and still soft feeling. A lot has to do with the balls you use too.
I hope to have these pings in the bag for many years to come.

I hit it for the first time today. I really liked the feel - hard to differentiate from a forged head. They may feel different from eg brand A forging someone is used to, but for sure I would’ve thought they’re forged. Felt decently forgiving too.

I’ll probably wait to compare them to the new King Tour before I make a decision, but i was really impressed.

This is my exact thinking as well. The new King Tour looks awesome, but i feel like it will lack some of the forgiveness.
