Pinehurst #10

Looks like it will be here based on the scant aerial views from the article? Good for the Doakito and his team. So far I have only played 4, 5, 8, and 9 so I will have to get back there after this gets built. I think top of my list to play next time are #2, #3 and probably #4 again.

Wow this is going to be epic! I’m a big fan of Doak courses. Should be a very nice links style addition to the Pinehurst suite. I don’t think I need another reason to go to Pinehurst, as I have visited every year for the last 3, but this news got my attention.

Not that Pinehurst is hurting, but this is a great move on their part. In my opinion, they have really needed another top notch course. It gets them back into the discussion with other resorts from a quality standpoint.

Course is slated to be open for the 2024 Open. I can’t imagine what they will charge for packages that include lodging, credentials, and golf.

Selfishly, I hope it has some width. The Pit does not look like it had much of that but, then again, I never played it and am basing that off Google Earth.

It was a shotmaker’s  course, but I’m sure the trees have grown a lot since it closed. When it was built, it was pretty controversial. It wasn’t quite Tobacco Road like, but it was very different than most courses when it was built.

Really good synopsis here from Ginella, who has a good relationship with Pinehurst brass so I put a lot of faith in it:

https://firepitcollective.com/pinehurst-hits-the-jackpot-again/

The Coore Crenshaw routing is apparently on a different part of this land, and it sounds like the Pit site will end up with 2 full courses and a short course. I'm sure accomodations will follow (the planned boutique hotel replacing the croquet courts above the Cradle has been shelved for the time being).

I am nervously awaiting what this means for my membership. The last time they added a course it meant a new level of membership requiring buy in. I guess we shall see. Exciting time to be in Pinehurst.

Can't wait for them to put the new course behind a pay wall (stay required) and increase the price of the new lodging. I love pinehurst golf but having to spend 400 bucks a night at least just to get access to these courses is dumb.

Then don’t go.

That’s just the reality of golf tourism in todays market. There are more than plenty of people willing to stay and play and Pinehurst is bursting at the seams with demand right now

I can’t wait and will be planning a trip as soon as we know more firm info about the opening date.

I'm just saying it didn't use to be that way.  If places like St. Andrews or Beth Page can have day of tee times why can't #2 and #4

It not that simple. Sure St. Andrews doesn’t require a stay but have you ever actually looked into the ballot process and what it entails? Hope you’re willing to lock in dates 2 years ahead. I’m not sure that having people sleep in cars overnight or outside of the starters shack at 3am is a much better option.

I would love it if the courses and lodging were more affordable but I much prefer an public course at an expensive golf destination than a private course that I will most likely never have access sure. Assuming CC open up Pinehurst #11 the odds of me paying the high price to stay and play is much higher than me ever getting an invite to Frairs Head.

Worth noting- if cost is prohibitive see if you can swing a trip during the off season. Played #2, #4, #8 with 2 nights lodging and breakfast and dinner for just over $900. To me that’s more doable than $500+ a night during high season.

Just came back from there over new years.  Weather is all luck this time of year but it was reasonably priced because of that. If I had played Saturday it would have been a complete washout. We played Sunday and the weather was mid 60's. Tee time in front of us was left open on #2 because it was canceled.  As far as I know that tee time wouldn't be offered to members right? So why not open it to the general public.

Any tee time not used by the resort is open to the members. In fact, being flexible is the best way to get on #2&4 in peak season. This is how I justify the cost of membership, and what keeps the dues VERY reasonable.

As far as the need for a "destination" type place 4 miles from the resort, I think you will see more buddy trip type lodging. Think Bandon Chrome Lake rather the main hotel.  And the other real estate they own will gain value and I can't imagine won't lead to some more housing to increase the tax base for Aberdeen. Remember this is not in the village of Pinehurst, so they will not be as limited as they are when they go to develop around the resort proper.

How far in advance can you guys book tee times.  I had a conversation with a member who caddies when I played #8 and he said it's pretty easy for most of the non big 3 courses.

10 days for 7,8,9.

1 week for all others.

Plus unused resort times get released about 48 hours out.  Pretty easy to get on as a single or a twosome, a little harder if you have a foursome.

I had a rumor that they were going to buy Pinewild, renovate, and turn it into #10.  Wonder if that plan is still active.

Other releases have mentioned Aberrdeen and 4.5 miles form the reosrt, if I recall Pienwild is not Aberdeen.  I tdont' think it's Pinewild at all.

Local Pro and Pinehurst Member told me.  But this looks like an outside firm.  Ehhh, rumors are just that.

It has a paywall, so I can't read it.   But yeah, I'm sure there's lots of rumors in the area.    I guess once you all see BullDozers moving in somewhre, then we'll know 🙂

Whereever it is, I'm sure it'll be fantastic.

We won’t know for a while but I wonder if #10 and #11, assuming that happens, will have different accesses than the rest of the resort. Something like, you have to stay in this section of lodging if you want access to the courses. (Obviously speculation on lodging being built.) Currently it’s just #2 but maybe will we will see an surcharge for this new course and they add one for #4?

Not public play, but I think it’s sort of that way with some membership options. Can’t you be a member at 7-9 without being a full pinehurst member? Or maybe it’s just 7 and 9? @brownm any insights here?

A lot of hotels and resorts seem to be going this way with different levels of access depending on what tier of lodging you select. I hope golf resorts don’t do the same but would not be surprised.

I doubt that. I would still guess open access as long as staying on property. I thought they had already added a surcharge for #4 and I 100% assume the pricing for #10 will be more in line with 2/4 than the rest.
