Just got an ALBATROSS! Who else has one??

Never been close or witnessed one. I have never hit a hole in one or witnessed one either

I just made my first a few weeks ago! The first hole at our club is a 540 yard par 5. I hit a good drive that was just a yard off the fairway in the right rough with an average lie.   I was 240 out and hit a 3 wood that landed a bit short of the green but didn't have much spin since it came out of the rough so it went forward onto the green and rolled into the hole. I was so surprised I didn't really know how to react. It's definitely my best shot ever; even better than my hole in one.

I almost had my first this week.  Cut the corner with driver at about 311 yards, and it left me 166 in.  Ball was dead on line, but stopped 2 feet short.  So still no ace or albatross.  Curious if I would be happier with an ace or an albatross.  I feel like the alba is more difficult.

If PGA Tour stats are to be believed, holes in one are far more common than albatrosses. They granted do probably play par 5s that are generally substantially harder to make 2s on than most of us though.

i had one many moons ago on a 505 yard par 5, mashed the driver, mashed my approach shot, knew it hit the green, kept looking all over for it, then looked in the cup there she was.

I have an albatross. I got mine on a 525-yard par 5 in 1998. I hit a driver followed by a 2-iron. The ball landed about 10-yards short of the green, took one big hop, then rolled into the cup! Now that I am 65-years old, my days of totaling 525-yards in two shots is a distant memory.

I've never had one, but saw one about a month ago. Guy in my foursome, we were playing against them for $$. On 17, par 5, from 219 out he lands it on the front of the green, couple bounces, and in. 

They took that hole, but they still lost the match to us. Pretty cool to see though. It's the only one I've ever seen in-person.

I made one on a 520 yard par 5. I couldn't find my ball, told the guys it went right at the pin, a 3wd from 235, must've gone over the green. I go over the green and as I am looking, hear somebody say "Here it is." And look back to see this jerk who has just picked my ball out of the hole. Threw it to me. Wanted to choke him. The only consolation is he made eagle on that hole.

Our club facilities are closed for winter maintenance for the week but the course is open for members if walking.  My cousin was supposed to join me but he bailed last minute so I played by myself. Was about 45* out. 

 

Proceed to the 510y par 5 7th. Hit a great drive to right side of fairway. 168 to back left pin. Hit a beautiful 8i right at it. Made nothing of it because it’s an elevated green and the left side of the green is blind from the right half of the fairway. Walking up to the green I wasn’t seeing my ball so started taking a video. See my pitch mark about 10’ short of the cup and boom, there it was, and unwitnessed albatross!  
 

Since it happened I’ve googled about the odds and rarity of it and wasn’t aware it was quite as rare according to the links I’ve seen at about 6M to 1. 
 

Who else has been blessed with one?

 

My only albatross story is eerily similar to yours. Roughly same length hole, roughly same distance in, hit same club, same blind landing on the green and by myself with not another soul on the course. Only difference is I was on the left side of the fairway and did not think to film because I thought I was just plugged in the rough.

I've had two hole in one and seven eagles but never had an albatross on a par 5 which is something I'm still working on in order to complete the trifecte.

Got my first one this year 10/22 Hole #13 at River Oaks Golf Course and event center in Hastings MN. 578 yard par 5, Driver/7 iron from 207. Didn't even see it go in 😞 But I did say as it was landing I think it might be in the hole. Unfortunately my playing partners were driving around looking for their balls and we couldn't really celebrate accordingly but still super cool.

Got one legit one and one asterisks one. 
 

Legit one was in a league round, holed out on my second shot on a par 5. 
 

Asterisks one was in a scramble. Two cups on each green. One big cup and one regulation cup. We did not take my drive, as my partners ball was 3 feet closer to the hole than mine. From there had about 185 from a slight downslope. Big cup on the front right corner, regular cup in the back left. Tried to hit a high cut to the big cup and didn’t get the club face open and hit a little pull. Landed 20 feet short of the regular cup and went right in.

I've never had one.  I've had three hole-in-ones, but never an albatross.  Though I've come very close - hit the pin a few times with 2nd shots into par 5's, and one time I hit driver on a 310-yard par 4, and when I got to the green my ball was two inches directly behind the hole, so must've burned the edge.  I'm not getting any younger, so I'm not too confident I'll ever get one.

I have one. A low chip slice with 5 wood from 141 under a tree limb following a 350 yard drive 😂.

 

Golf Ettique Rant:

I should have two!! The group ahead of me on a par 4 replaced the flagstick with a lean of 30ish degrees towards the tee box. My tee shot wedged between the flag and the green 1 mm from the front edge of the hole.

I want that rare and elusive Albatross more than anything else. 

 

It always cracks me up that some people end up collecting multiple of these shots over their lives.  (Hole in 1, Albatross)  The rest of us are just out here chasing and hoping that the golf gods do not in fact hate us completely.

I’ve never had an albatross, but once I hit a goose that was walking across the fairway.  It just kept walking.  Tough birds!

Congrats @Rosco1216 - no albatross (yet), but I did just record my first eagle!

I have one at Cherokee Run outside of Atlanta.  Depending upon when you played it, it is either number 9 or number 18.  Second shot up the hill a bit. I didn't even see it go in, the group in front of us were up on the hill above the green and saw it go in and started jumping up and down and screaming.  I drove our cart straight to the green, celebrated, and then had to turn around and get my cart partner his clubs to hit his third into the green.

 

My father who never had a hole in one, has had three albatrosses.  5 wood for two of them and 7 wood for the other.
