David Maxwell has been pumping out some good content for the MLM2 Pro and will be getting numbers to compare to other LMs soon.

I did just find this guy who compared it to a GC2 and is getting identical spin axis numbers and spin within 50 rpm, though ball speed is slightly different. Maxwell has been getting some different carry numbers too, so there might just be some small differences in the ball flight models Rapsodo is using that is giving ever so slightly lower carry numbers.

Edit: Also looking like lots of disconnect issues, unfortunately. I think this will be Rapsodo's first real test of how much they are supporting the platform if they can get a firmware update out quickly to address them.

I read on another forum that Rapsodo sent out an email saying that they are indeed pushing out a firmware update this week regarding wifi disconnect issues, other bugs, and improved accuracy in range mode.

HEre is a copy and paste of the posting I saw regarding the update:

>>>New MLM2PRO Firmware update v2.43!
We have just released a new firmware (v.2.43) that will now be available to download from your current iOS or Android app. This update includes:

  • Improved connection. We are working to improve the connection experience that several of you have brought to our attention. We have made some improvements in this firmware update. We have identified a few other bugs that will be solved in another release later this week or early next week.
  • Improved chip shot accuracy (low speed shots)
  • Improved ball detection and accuracy in Range mode<<<

Not sure if anyone is in the FB groups, but I'm already working on a DIY marking clip so you can test different balls. And don't need to spend $70+ a dozen on theirs.

The Rapsodo sim aesthetically looks better than the Garmin Sim

Not that it will matter as much for me as GSPro user (really hoping they can crack that nut soon), but the Rapsodo sim's complete lack of any elevation changes would kill it for me.

R10 is like the same, but Mario Golf graphics. I tried to play my home club and it’s unrecognizable

Golf Sim Videos just did a comparison to GC4. TLDR; it's basically spot on on every metric except launch angle is consistently about 2* low. Hopefully an easy fix for Rapsodo. The odd thing is that Rapsodo is getting the exact same carry numbers as the GC4 with the exact same spin and ball speed despite the low launch angle, which means either their ball flight algorithm is very different, or the launch angle is just a visual bug and they are getting the correct launch angle into the calculations.

On some of the lower launching drives there was a loss of carry - potentially due to the lower launch angle. Great results for a $700 unit. For an affordable dedicated indoor sim seems like it will be hard to justify going with anything else. Will be interesting to see how the rest of the market responds.

Is there anything Garmin can do to respond with the R10? Or is the inherent limitations of the unit itself limiting it's accuracy in terms of spin axis and there is nothing that can be done with the existing technology inherent in that unit's hardware? In other words will they have to develop a new unit e.g. R20, to meet the accuracy of the Rapsodo?

I'm sure they're working on something hardware wise but hardware takes time. They're more likely to respond by improving their Sim software which looks like mobile trash right now.

The sim software is certainly bad. I just use E6 or Awesome Golf. The Garmin app range and HTH are 1990's standard graphics.

I'd like to see any sort of outdoor accuracy tests. It seems like all of the rave reviews that I'm seeing are from indoor tests using the marked balls. I wonder how good it is in measuring distance, speed etc using range balls without any spin measurements to use in its calculations.

I’m very interested to see these results as well.

Playing mental tennis with myself over this right now… Already have the Garmin, got is used, so I could flip it for what I paid be back at $0. Still new to this, so if the MLM 2 Pro is new and going to take over, would rather flip over to that now.

Is 2-3% more accuracy and the $700+$200 subscription worth it? Vs the $450+$0 subscription I’ve already paid. I think for anyone straying away from MLM 2 Pro, it will be because it costs more up front, it has a subscription, or they don’t want to use a Callaway ball?

Seems like Garmin lowered the price to $499… Maybe $399 is the move and then it’s nearly 50% cheaper? Yes MLM2 Pro is still affordable and appears to provide better data, but I think Garmin unit gets better dollar for dollar if they could go lower on it.

Don’t over think this. If you will be using it primarily indoors then the accuracy of the spin axis measurements is a significant upgrade. Radar only units will continue to struggle with spin axis. Everything else from the R10 should be very comparable. If you want more flexibility with the ball type, if you want more data or if you want spin data outside then R10. - IMHO.

But some folks who have hit outdoors said it matched their ball flight. So either it can magically read it or they aren’t hitting hard to read shots. (Or they can’t see it 😂). Really need to see a test done outdoors.

Outdoors R10 can just watch the ball so it should get spin axis correct. indoors the way radar units back into spin axis measurements is based on club data ( path, face to path, etc) and it has to assume center contact (aka - no gear effect). So assuming the tolerance on the club measurements is good and you make center contact the spin axis should be pretty good. That said, with woods and driver in particular a 1/2 inch or more off center hit will be heavily influenced by gear effect. The R10 or any radar only unit will always struggle with spin axis indoors due to this. With the RCT ball the total spin number on R10 should be very good.

I thought R10 only reads 40-100yards outdoors of flight? Would that even be enough to detect gear effect on a long shot? Thanks

It doesn’t have to / can’t “detect” gear effect it just has to watch the curvature of the ball. If it can track 40 yards or more of flight then the it sees the initial curve and predicts the rest based on other data (ball speed, spin. Launch angles, etc). Basically runs a ballistic model. Should be pretty good.

Basically the MLM 2’s biggest advantage over anything else remotely close to its price point is the camera’s ability to accurately read the spin axis (with RPT ball) in limited flight situations. It’s not backing into spin axis like the R10 based on club data. Outdoors it looses that advantage - and all spin data all together.

To confirm, you’re saying R10 has more data? I thought it was the other way around?
