Azinger is the best announcer. NBc agrees, that why he was retained during the shakeup. Keep up the good work Paul. great replacement for Jonny Miller.

Try watching for 4 hours and coming up with a 1 liner description for every shot you see. Paul Azinger does a fine job. It’s a 4 hour story essentially written on the fly. Too many folks want broadcast to be like Twitter. Maybe NBC could hire the PXG guy. 🤣

I know it became a joke with how often he had to say it, but Kostis' job was to mention the sponsor of the technology.  If you didn't like his analysis that's one thing, but you are aiming the arrow at the wrong target if you think performing a requirement of his job is one of his weaknesses.

 

You're missing Ian Baker-Finch.  Guy is quite likely the nicest man on the planet, but someone who cries on air when Jason Day wins the PGA championship who is not Jason Day's immediate family maybe isn't the best fit for broadcasting.  It wasn't like Bob Griese watch his son win the Rose Bowl MVP.  Gotta keep it together.

I was prepared not to like Paul's commentaries but I was prejudiced against him from the start--to my biased and wrongheadedness.  After listening to him for many weeks now I find his insight into the tour, players, the particular shot at hand and the bigger perspective of the tournament itself to be very good.  Plus I often learn from his description of what a player is trying to do, what a player needs to do and frequently what a player should have done.  As a counterpoint to Dan Hicks' often ridiculously high bar for measuring a shot's success Azinger brings home the bacon.  Talking for four hours or more is going to produce some gaffes for sure but settling in on those only is overlooking the excellent contributions he makes to the viewer's enjoyment.  3.0 out of 4.0 stars for Paul, and improving almost weekly.

Totally agree. Azinger speaks of what he knows because he's been there and done that.

 

He gives terrific insight and honest analysis. Azinger is great. Dan Hicks is pretty good also. Hard to talk about golf for four hours.

Azinger is great on podcasts and other stuff. On air he just is what they call a try hard. It seems like he is always trying to come up with the next famous saying. Uses Oh Man! way too much.

Is azinger right when he says the PAC is a "colossal waste of time" and now Adam Scott actually believes his vies will make a difference to the PGAT governing board???

I notice that you quoted half of Azingers comment. He went on to say that "Maybe it's not like that now......"Context matter. Meaning that things change in twenty years.

Jack Nicklaus is probably my least favorite guest announcer by a long shot, I wish they’d put Lee Trevino in the booth instead.  
 

Phil Blackmar does a good job with the champions tour.

i agree.  Just like the the government, we are here to help.....  nothing has changed in those PAC meetings for the last quarter century, and I would almost guarantee zinger's time guys had a lot, and I mean a lot more to say about the day to day and future operations of the 'TOUR'.....  No one is taking a "non-businessmen's" perspective as anything more than facetime and then let's move onto the adults in the room conversation as a side bar.   I see it all the time.  Administration/C suites must have these ridiculously meaningless meetings so that the collective voices are felt to be heard, but there is always already an agenda planned.  All that the Csuite guys need to do is just steer the collective thoughts toward their pre decided plan and make the minion/players feel they are heard.  

 

com'on now, do you really think the billion dollar company of the tour would really listen to the 'non college graduate guys without an MBA about anything that may financially beneficial to the tour' in any real regards? 

 

go back and see what the tour's primary council said to the PAC when they thought there may be  a benefit to a preemptive LIV play against the current LIV tour.  It was essentially, any event opposite our PGAT event would be seen as an existential threat to the PGAT and taken down.  That doesn't seem to be an open dialogue to me.  

 

Surely you are just in jest to my response????  But maybe you truly feel context matters but history of who really runs the tour doesn't?
