Project X Wedge shaft

So I bit the bullet and purchased a set from golfworks as soon as I saw it was in stock.  While I wait with excitement does anyone on here have any experience with it yet?  I know its new and just hit the market but if anyone has any experience with it I would be glad to hear any feedback.

I bought these because I am in PX LS 6.5 in my irons and S400's in my three wedges.  Though I love and enjoy the S400s in my wedges I am intrigued about having a similar bend profile in the wedges that I have in my irons.

I think it all depends upon spin numbers.  Your using a low spin shaft and I would think you would want more spin in your Wedges.  I would bet that an S400 will spin more then a 6.5 LS.  It kinda like why do most Pro's take out the PW in the set and use a custom PW.  They want the spin.

One interesting note as comparison is that Rory uses Project X in his wedges 6.5 which are different from the 7.0 in his irons.  You could consider a standard 6.5 Project X instead of the LS.

I just looked up Rahm and he plays the Project X 6.5 in his wedges also.

Not sure if you know but Project X just released a line of wedge shafts to complement the Project X iron shaft line.  It’ll have the same weight as the iron shaft but 10 cycles softer in its stiffness.

I did not know that.. that is really cool!  I've been playing the  Project X 6.0 for that last 15 years.   I think you should do it and give us a full review 🙂

Very interested to see how people like these new shafts.  I've recently been enlightened to the lovely feel of the PX Steel iron shafts.  I always believed they were too much for me, but turns out I loved them.  Could honestly play regular or LS in either 6.0 or 6.5.

Any thoughts on a wedge shaft to match up with Prohect X IO 6.0?  I know those are lighter .

going to go into a set of raw SM9s

I'm really interested in your experience. Let us know!

Also curious how these will play in comparison to the 8iron (1 full flex up) spinner shaft install as referenced in this thread by @Howard_Jones. I'm currently using in PX 6.0 so it would be a comparison of 7.0 8iron shaft vs 6.0 or 6.5 wedge shaft.

built it to my specs and was able to spend time on trackman with them yesterday.

So I’ve been an s400 guy for years and that’s the feel that I’m comfortable but I’m in PX Ls 6.5s in my irons and I want to experiment with having a similar feel in my wedges.  After a couple swings it was clear that it’ll take some time for me to get used to this.  The soft butt section of the s400 and the total weight of the shaft made the feel so smooth and controlled.  With the PX shaft, you can tell it’s lighter (it’s 7 grams lighter than s400) and it has a stiffer feel overall.  It’s not a bad thing but it’ll take some time to get used to.

After about 5-10 mins I started to get more comfortable with the new shafts.  Partial shots with these are money.  Consistent low/medium launch and spin.  80 yard knockdown shots with the 54 launched at 24* with a spin window of 7900-8200.  They felt great.  But the area where these really shine for me are full swings.  I don’t often take full swings with 54 or 60 but I’ll hit my 50 full for 120-130y shots.  With S400 full swings were difficult to control.  It often got too spinny and shaft felt whippy.  The PX wedge shaft felt so stable on full swings.  I was easily able to hit the yardages I wanted with a variety of trajectories.

in conclusion, S400 is still in the lead for me solely based on comfort.  But I’m sure with more time I spend with the PX wedge shafts I’ll be more comfortable.  I can absolutely see these go in the bag come spring time.

Yeah I see that too.  I can’t speak for golfworks but I’m lucky I was able to get some from them before they sold out.

On instagram, the project x page talks about it quite a bit!

GolfWorks is updating their website and they had an issue on the Project X Wedge page where you weren't able to select the flex. I think they are fixing it in the next few days and hopefully by mid-week next week it's solved so people can finally order the new shafts. I am anxiously waiting for the 6.0 ones to be available for order, as I have to rebuild my SW and LW with the new shafts before the season starts....

Currently have a couple of 6.5 Wedges on the way from my shop. Kept an eye out on Golfworks for a while and just decided to pay the upcharge to make sure I got some headed my way. Currently play 6.5's all the way down, so super excited to throw these in the LW and see what happens. Holding on to one for when the T grinds come out!

Excited to hear your feedback on them!  After another session with mine, I am getting more comfortable with it.  Finding the low point in the swing was the main challenge but nothing that can't be worked on.  I also have another shaft waiting for T grind!  Have you had any experience with the T grind at all?  I'm thinking of getting the 58 and bent to 59 or 60 for added bounce but the benefit of the extreme toe/heel relief and narrow sole.

Strange…these shafts aren’t on the True Temper site.

I messaged project x on instagram about this.  They said they are released with authorized project x dealers at the moment.  I'm sure they'll be up on the true temper site in due time.

I can't wait to get them in, they shipped yesterday so hopefully will have them ready by the weekend to start testing. Will def share feedback here. I am interested to see how big the difference actually is since I already have the 6.5's through the bag.

Havent played with the T yet. Played a lot of half-set the last year or so and got used to only carrying a 56 on the low end of the bag. Trying to focus on competitive golf this season so rebuilt the bag to a more traditional progression, most notably in the wedges. Was about a day away from ordering a 58T through Wedgeworks when I saw the rumor about T grind coming to retail here on WRX so figured I would wait it out and picked up the Zipcore 58 Low as soon as they dropped to $120 to practice with for the time being. Very excited to play with the T grind. Good idea to bend it a bit weak to get some bounce back, I am stuck indoors all winter so the low leading edge is nice off mats lol

Have you had experience with the T?

No experience with the T.  I gamed the Mizuno T22 60 x grind with 6* bounce.  I absolutely loved it.  I was comfortable playing any shot off any lie with it.  I know the T stock has 4* bounce so if I take to 6* where i'm comfortable at, the transition should be seamless.
