I never understood the infatuation with this kid.

 

No one even knows who he is anymore and he seems quite content with his insurance payout and current hiding place; so I highly doubt any needles would be moved.

I think people of a certain age (I'm of the age I'm referring so not a dig) tend to forget this part when talking about him.

 

The guy hasn't been relevant since 2010. That's coming up on 13 years! I'd be willing to bet that the majority of casual golf fans and 99% of people under the age of 30 don't even know the name.

A lot of athletes walk away from the sport.  They have earned generational wealth.  Many go into other endeavors.  Family becomes more important than a daily grind.  I am sure he is happy at his place in life.

I believe that his off course lifestyle set him up for the direction his career went. He was thrown into the lime light from the get go and the injury albeit a legit one became his crux to not put in the same if not more focus on his game. I admired him coming out and on fire the way he did. Always liked how he would choke up on most of his clubs and be able to fire away as he did. After this long a hiatus, it would probably be good to do some face time and get back unto the golf screen if he really wanted to. He was a talent for sure.

AK was entertaining for sure. That is what makes watching golf great. Nothing worse than seeing a great golfer with no personality. You can see the difference with modern generations and how they embrace that the product is entertainment.

I think it had to be the belt buckles! 

Seriously though. I’d bet for most the attraction was that he wasn’t the typical cookie cutter PGA pro. He definitely had a personality and an energy about him. Would he make me cough up $100 an event to watch him play on the XVII short tour… I wouldn’t pay $10 for the entire season! Haha

AK has benefitted greatly from having a career short enough to never fall apart or have the lull's all these players experience. That and everything is gospel and hyperbole when it comes to his mystique, good player with some hot streaks, not rewriting the books though.

Not sure Kim coming back would be as simple as LIV just covering any shortfall in future insurance payouts. Surely he'd open himself up to pretty substantial civil (at the very least) claims if he did start playing again.

I’d sure like to give the fortune part a ride and be proven wrong.  I seem to be happy as a lark on payday and mad as a hornet around tax time.  Correlation or causation?

Why?  I don’t know how the payout was structured, but it seems to me if LIV repays the initial claim the insurance company would be thrilled to have their money back.

Well perhaps if everything previously paid to him was returned. But it would also add weight to the theory the entire claim was bogus which opens up a different can of worms.

A couple of guys on PGA Tour radio (Sirius XM) were talking about AK recently, and they said he was the absolute purest ball striker they’d ever seen.  Whether that would have played out over the long haul we’ll probably never know, but if there’s anything to this, I’d kinda like to see what AK has left in the tank/

Yeah but a guy on WRX recently said he wasn't sure Kim would've kept playing at that level forever, and compared him to guys like Camilo Villegas
