Of course Phil doesn't care about OWGR points for LIV - it's all about Phil. Ask Gooch. Like Norman, he's made the Mount Rushmore of golf pariahs.

Sure, he might be 20 over par by the end of the weekend, but isn't that sort of an expectation?  I mean, we're likely going to have a guy or two be 10 over par after two days at the Cognizant this weekend.  It's pretty common to see a handful of Pro players, on every tour, shoot high numbers.  Why would this be any different?

AK got guaranteed money and guaranteed starts whether he shoots 60 or 70 or 80 every round.

Anyone playing the Cognizant qualified for the event - or is playing under a sponsor exemption (and you're not going to be many of those hacking it up).

I just looked at the DP Tour event day 1 results.  There are three guys who shot 80 or worse, last place is currently 16 shots back from the leader.  On Day 1.

TBF one event has guys with barely a couple nickels to rub together playing a professional golf tournament trying to make their dream happen and the other is guys who gave up on the dream to play pitch and putt with 50 of their buddies once a month for a retirement fund.

Obviously not. But when a player director who will vote on this deal (Webb Simpson) comes out and says we’re in the dark about this, there’s clearly some miscommunication.

A fair rule of negotiation is don't believe anything the people doing the negotiating say. Pretty self explanatory as to why.

Dreams are not meant to come true.
Dreams are meant to keep you going through the darkness.

What I'm mostly curious about is how somebody's bone/muscle structure in their face can go from being almost perfectly symmetrical to being very asymmetrical.

With that massive scar on his neck I wonder if he at some point suffered a major head/face injury and had to get some significant reconstructive surgery

lots of people doubting AK... he could absolutely bomb in his first tournament back.  at the same time, it wouldnt be a shocker if he played well.  to me anyways... he isnt Tiger, but a lot of people trashed his return after his injuries and personal struggles.  AK is almost 10 years younger and has been said to have the mental fortitude tons of tour guys wished they had (something i heard).

last thing, some guys caught up with this guy "trying to be cool".  he defined it for a couple years.  i guarantee he aint trying to be cool or impress anyone.  give the guy a chance!

Good point. Looking back June 6 was just a farce. The PGAT couldn’t afford the legal fees and PIF didn’t want to be subject to discovery. These guys clearly didn’t have a plan

Some perspective: Lexi shot what 73 69 or something in a PGATour event?  AK is a male pro golfer. Unless he is way off the rails, he is not shooting 80+ rounds. He or any actual pro could shoot *an* 80 but not 3 80s. If he puts up a horrible score, we'll know he has lost it. But that is unlikely especially on whatever course the Jedda open is contested held on.

I would think someone has seen his full game and deemed him competitive enough to play, otherwise I don't think they would have handed him an exemption.  That said, if he comes out and finishes DFL, it won't be a good look for LIV.  He has to be competitive for the move to make sense.

At this point I am more curious as to what happened to him the last 10 years and how it all went down.  He looks like he's been through the ringer, so hopefully we can finally get the whole story.

Competitive enough to play or not. If the estimates of what they paid him are accurate, I’d say just the already almost 24 pages here has made it worthwhile for them. $5-10 million for them is like what, $150 to the average person. The buzz actually feels bigger here than the Rahm move. Which is pretty crazy.

I think it’s fair to say he was lighting up the rails based on that schnaz.

it's disappointing to see the condition AK is in for being a former PGA standout. sure its been discussed, but.. hey hope he plays great golf...

It's wild to think AK is closer to Smylie Kaufman than he is someone like Martin Kaymer. Sean O'Hair arguably had a better career in roughly the same amount of years.

Phil’s slowly morphing into Cosmo Kramer. He says some crazy stuff, is a degenerate, and fell into a pile of cash without really doing anything

Well... To be fair, 45 PGAT wins and 6 majors not only means he did do a lot on the golf course but also parlayed that into the pile of cash no matter how hard he tried to sabotage himself.  Some people just have that vampire blood and short of a stake through the heart, everything just rolls off his back.  Good for him, AK could learn a lot!

I enjoy the nostalgia.  Who really cares what AK shoots, it's funny how big of a non-story this has become (relatively).  Whether he miraculously shoots 62 or a laughable 82, what's the difference a month later?  Still, I did enjoy this video recently posted.  I was around La Qunita quite a bit during those years Jim talks about and standing down the range from AK as a youngster watching that swing.... It was fun to watch.  (David Bowie Golden Years in my head at the moment).

Well sure, I get ur put down of my post. But this is, from what I’ve heard, the biggest golf forum on the internet. For what amounts to a roughly $150 investment??? It has me pretty hyped to watch, and I don’t typically watch LIV. And I’m sure I’m not the only one. But sure, laught it up Konk! 😊

I’ll also add that in my experience the hype of something here seems to be a decent gauge of what I see out IRL when I talk to ppl. Just today at the gym I talked to 3 ppl that I know play and very casually follow pro golf. They were all well aware of AK teeing it up this week.

I know the odds of this are crazy but what if Ak won this week and played well on LIV > qualified for the US Open > and won the US Open!

That's not too far off from saying  -  What if the sun doesn't come up tomorrow.

I was a fan of AK. I just don't think it's conducive for him or anyone else to travel the road he's traveled over the last 12+ years to return to professional golf and be competitive, right out of the gate. Perhaps as the season progresses, he may show some of the old form.
