Does LIV leadership know AK is a laughing stock in the golfing community or are they tone deaf.

What kind of incompetent CEO would continue to allow such poor publicity on a business they are trying hard to be relevant at?

They are big fans of girl dads

I don’t see the need to cut AK. He’s not costing them a ton (and does it matter if he is), there’s not really any marquee names left, and LIV can always hold out hope if he improves.

Shocked his not doing the youtuber thing.

There's no way he has the temperament for this - just take five minutes scrolling back through his Twitter account to see why.

On top of that - I think his popularity was *drastically* overstated. He hasn't been successful on tour in 13+ years.

I think he was the coolness that the game needed to attract teenagers into the “stuffy” sport during his time. He was cool, fun to watch, kind of arrogant.  Which now his online arrogance/presence  has made me less of a fan, unfortunately.

I was teenage/college age and I remember his Ryder cup performance beating Sergio 5&4 and ready to keep beating him even more 😂.  This was awesome! Then his birdie fest (record) at the masters.

Long story short, I think he clicked with a young generation.

Man that was also...*17* years ago.

Think about how many great young guys come out of nowhere now. Not just stud college players that we may have heard of for years - but just random guys that drop on the scene and suddenly they are winners on tour.

Honestly if he had faded off into nothing, the hype and the mystery behind him would be what we remember. It only makes me sad because it shows how much he must have really needed the $ to risk looking like this.

You're not wrong. It was a while back. Despite that, he's still remembered. If he had ground it out on the Tour and made a comeback it would have been a legendary bookend to a career that had more flashes of glory than most.

As to the why of him being different than most other young guns, the video of him above, his clinic with Tiger, and many others showing the spirit he brought to the game at the time and what it brought out in others says it all. I don't think it's surprising between that and the mystery of his insurance settlement surrounding his full disappearance from play that he's lived rent free in people's heads even if they didn't realize it. It would have been like Rodman going on the DL and never playing again after the last playoff appearance of the first finals run with him, then a decade later there were suddenly whispers that he's maybe coming back to the NBA. Everyone would have remembered him for the flashes of talent and the very different personality even if he got hurt and never got the rings with Pippen and Jordan. They'd probably have reactions similar to this thread if he instead ended up in some offshoot league and never did anything of note against about the softest competition he could have faced.

While I understand that he can be a bit of a jack wagon on the Internet, I don’t really get all the hate about this guy.  He’s just trying to provide for his family, probably in the best (maybe only) way he knows how, and he’s not hurting anyone else.  I’m never gonna hate on someone for that.

Did this thread have a lot of overzealous “fans” who thought Anthony would catch lightning in a bottle with his return?  Yes.

Did practical people make realistic observations of the situation that unfolded?  Yes.

Look back in the thread, and it wasn’t “hate”.  Funny though how some of the super fans in the earlier comments have disappeared.

It would seem that most LIV fans confuse criticism with hate and definitely resent being challenged regarding anything LIV.

Played his way into last so far this morning with a nasty 8 - I never check LIV results - damn, you made me look, lol.

No idea what his contract terms were, he's better off I'd guess than he would have been otherwise.

The whole “just trying to provide for his family” argument is so funny to me. Give me a break with the alligator tears

He was one of those “wild card” exemptions.  I can’t imagine LIV signs him again with his consistent poor play.

Its such a ludicrous argument frankly - and he brings it on himself with how divisive he is. He loves it, he loves being the tool.

But from a playing standpoint, there's zero point in him being out there. But LIV has shown they will get these guys that are in the drop zone and then magically there is some sort of exemption category that he falls into and he's back.

I mean he's currently DFL and 21 off the lead. He has repeatedly proven he is not a professional level golfer at this point.

The question I think is what was he signed to do?  I think it was "x" years and he's still out there because they are going to make him finish out his contract, which I'd guess may have been largely paid already (and in fairness to him contractually, he may have some opportunity to earn some money in the events above his "purchase price").

I think it would be a huge surprise if he was only signed for two seasons they decide to pay him for any more golf.

Maybe the opener of their letter in their new OWGR bid is "Please note we are not re-signing Anthony Kim".

I met AK in his prime and he wasn't the best human being but I also understood he was a young guy that had a boatload of Nike cash.  Can't say I wouldn't have been the same way under the same circumstances.

With that said he's not at the professional level and to be honest he wouldn't compete at the top amateur level either.  Maybe he will find something, maybe he won't but Im happy he got a second chance with a clear head.  It's a win for him and a win for LIV.

I believe it was just a year to year deal which means he will be out of a job next year unless he is drafted by a team and or they re-sign him again.  I could be wrong but I remember someone saying his deal is up after this season.

And this is my guess as to how he magically stays on LIV, some team will "draft" him and replace a no name thats currently on their roster.

I dont think even the biggest AK defenders are still willing to say this anymore. Its clear he never took the golf seriously from the beginning. He found a way to hoodwink GN into setting him and his family up for life and he grabbed on as hard as he could. And good for him in that regard. But lets be honest, theres been no point where his golf has been anywhere near good enough.

Rumors were floating around that he was going to join DJs team next year but I can’t see that happening with the way he is playing.

He might be trying, but father time and previous heavy drug use are pretty much undefeated
