It goes to show how much charisma and attitude impacts people's perception of you. Statistically he had one elite year (2008), two above average years (2007/2009) and everything else was middling to below average. He'd pop his head up in majors just often enough to distract from the fact that 2010-2012 were pretty average years and he had that chaos factor; lights out putting but couldn't hit the broad side of a barn off the tee. I'd watch the hell out of him play again though...we've never really seen someone go this route before.

It's the "chaos factor" that folks remember (How AK made viewers feel)

... the same comparison could be made for Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, who today announced  he would be leaving Liverpool FC in the summer (only won one PL title, but people remember the 'heavy metal football').

His 2008 season was excellent. Not elite. Many tour players have won twice in a season. Hovland has a better year last year. If AK's 2008 is considered elite what were JDay's and Jordans 5 win seasons that included a major? VJ in 2004? Rahm last year. Scottie in 2022. Numerous others that have won 3-4 times in a year. Good memories can make us over estimate past happenings. This is what's going on with AK. In 2008 the seasons results in this graphic would be elite. Not what AK did the same season.

If its true that his insurance clause says he has to pay back in full if he ever tees it up again - why in the world would he agree to do this? IMO he's not going to show up anywhere and grind it out unless he is paid in full.

I wouldn't be surprised if we hear in a couple days this was all BS and it was started with one random tweet that was then retweeted a million times and got everyone excited.

He signed already? Can you link to any sort of official announcement, I havent seen anything.

The insurance policy probably says he can't play in X amount of years and is not a forever clause.

10+ years is a long time to be out of any sport

Sorry I realize "elite" doesn't have any kind of standard definition, nor did I explain mine. IMO elite = top 3 in total strokes gained for the year, so elite from a stats standpoint. He was #3 in 2008, slightly better than Vijay at #4 and beneath Sergio and Phil. Personally I also consider statistically "elite" to be multiple consecutive seasons with more than one stroke gained on the field and/or ever reaching 2+ total strokes gained for a year. To meet any of this criteria is to be statistically well above the tour average in multiple categories.

I think people of a certain age (I'm of the age I'm referring so not a dig) tend to forget this part when talking about him.

The guy hasn't been relevant since 2010. That's coming up on 13 years! I'd be willing to bet that the majority of casual golf fans and 99% of people under the age of 30 don't even know the name.

"casual+under 30"...which is a tiny subset of golf fans anyway, virtually every golf I know 40-85 knows AK, even by "AK".  Golf is boring as a norm, personalities spice it up.

Serious Q what makes anyone think he has a personality *now*? Because he wore a white belt and a big buckle 15+ years ago?

Boo Weekley had a personality back then too, arguably had a better career and..I'm not clamoring for him to be back on tour.

Sorry but I'm not buying all the "theres no one fun to root for on Tour" junk these days, makes me think lots of folks arent actually watching.

Most guys mellow out as they get older.  I highly doubt we will see the same AK in any way if he does return.

It’s a cash grab, nothing more. I can’t fault him for it. It’s no different than Kiss or someone similar doing a farewell tour, only to tour again three years later.

California produces a significant amount of men that suffer from arrested development. There is an endless supply of dudes in their late 30's to early 50's that still dress, act, and talk like they're 22. Look at Gankas. AK didn't spend the last decade getting his CPA and settling down in the suburbs with a wife and a few rugrats. He's been chillin w/ his boys and living on vibes.

To be fair AK should have been #4. Not elite then right? 🤣 A certain well known player that year didn't have enough rounds to qualify statisically for total stokes gained. That missing players total strokes gained (3.815) was more than the number 1 & 2 players combined (3.366). That's elite LOL! 😁😁😁 I understand what you are saying though and appreciate your definition you consider elite and the reasoning. Many ways to look at numbers. Appreciate the different viewpoint.

Hah yeah that criteria requires the "Tiger exception" because if he throws it all off. 😆

The 3+ total strokes gained category has one member, and he was there at least 7 times. Absurd.

Sounds like AK will just take the silly LIV money and they’ll pay back his insurance settlement. What sort of “negotiations” would he be having with the PGA Tour?

None. The PGAT is not that kind of tour. I'm sure he went out on a major medical.

C'mon, 12 years.🤣🤣

AK is the type of attitude we want to root for. It’s like the movie top gun ,like  Kat Williams  or Johnny cash. Just bravado unapologetically displayed.
