anyway.  Their manager lives in a tiny house that butts up to my father in law. His house being a 70s subdivision on a 2 acre lot.  Woods behind them all. Father in law is 82. 
 

well. Father in law cuts his sisters grass. Which is house on the other side of the manager.      So one day he’s riding his mower up to cut her grass and he notices that neighbors tree has fallen across the property line. And is covered in poison oak vines.  So he goes to that guys door to tell him that he has a tractor with a grapple bucket that can pick the tree up and move it into the woods , only catch is the poison oak.  Father in law is allergic. He wanted to tell him he’d move it for free if he’d spray and kill the poison oak first.  But. Nobody came to the door.  

 

so.  He stalked that house for about 2 weeks trying to find somebody at home.  As any retired man with nothing else to do would 😂. And one evening he walked out onto his carport and heard a noise.  Some music. So.  He takes off walking across the back yards , and sure enough.  The lights are on at the guys house.  Someone is home. As he gets closer he said “ i could tell the music is coming from the back screened in porch.  “. So he goes around and knocks on the porch door. But they don’t hear him.  And keep playing.  So he knocks again.  And finally he yells  “ hey —-boys —-!!!!!” And they stop playing.  To which he starts in on his question about the tree.  The home owner smiles and says “ sure sir. I’ll spray it tomorrow and we can wait a week and then it should be good.  Move it anywhere you want. And I’ll help you if I can “.     So.   He turns to walk away.  And then  turns back and says “ you boys sound good.  You could probably get paid on the weekends if you learn some old hank  or Conway songs.  I know of several clog/dance teams that pay for live music “. He said they alll busted out laughing.  So he just laughed and waved and walked back home.  
 

 

now to set the stage. He sat on that story for a month before he told me. It ended up being that long before he moved the tree.  And when he told it I still had no idea who he was dealing with. I just thought it was the 2 millionth “ guess what I did today story “ Until he came back from moving the tree.  

 

He calls me and asked me what size T shirt I wore.  I said a large usually. And he says “ well. I have an XL from somebody called the Marshall tucker band.  I can’t wear it. It doesn’t have pockets for my glasses 🤓 “   Then and there I made him repeat the story and I put the pieces together.    This fool had interrupted a jam session of the marshal Tucker band on the back porch of their road manager.  Who was his neighbor for 10 years and he don’t know it. Instead of listening quietly , he had yelled “ hey boys “ at the top of his lungs to stop them.  
 

 

so the rest of the story ( rip paul Harvey ).    I told my wife what her dad had done. She called her sister in Greenville Nc.   She’s older than us and this band is actually her generational match.  She could not believe that he didn’t know who they were since she had worn out several 8 tracks and then cassettes of there’s in his house. 
 

well. Then the next thing happens.  My father in law goes back over the next music he hears.  He gets invited in to sit down and listen.  He does.  And whne they take a break , he says “ my oldest daughter is a big fan of yours , and she’s not able to come to concerts anymore - would you give her a T shirt and maybe sign it , I told her I met you and she’s jealous. “?    Doug spoke up and says “ I’ll do better than that , but I’ll do that too.  What’s her phone number “?  And he reads it off.  They called her right then and wished her good  health and thanked her for being a fan so long.  2 days later she got a care package from them.  She later told my wife she almost fell out.  She had no pre warning at all.  
 

when my father in law called me and told me this.  He says “ they have long hair. But those are some pretty nice boys. “. If I’m lying I’m dying 😂.    I just said “ what am I going to do with you “?  And shook my head.  
 

that’s how my family came to know the Marshall tucker band.

seriously though. I don’t use talk to text. It truly irritates me.  I have fast thumbs. 
 

if we go down the road or how I navigate this site.  I’ll have to tag nsxguy.  It makes him physically ill to hear me describe manually scanning topics etc.  I talk fast.  Read super fast and type fast.

... You already seem to have a good handle on "not for me but you do you 👍" which I find one of the secrets to being happy. When The Beatles arrived and us radical kids started wearing bangs 😱 and the older generation called us girls (an insult in those backazzward days) and the music was just the most awful noise, I vowed I would never disparage a younger generations choice in clothes, music or whatever was popular. We are semi funnin' but being angry over something not only completely out of your control but also none of your business is a recipe for being an angry old man yells at clouds.

I am currently enjoying listening to all four of these jams in row through headphones. Wine and weed are enhancing my experience. You can bet I'm not sitting in a chair or lying on the sofa. Nope, I be moving baby !  🕺
