Let me say thanks for jumping in mid season and joining our Majors Picks contest @Bob Cat. Please join us the first week of September if you're interested for our weekly NFL Picks contest. That contest will be in its own thread and not part of the Lounge like this one was. Consider yourself invited sir.

No, I did not attend this epic music festival.  I would have been 15 and I really don't remember having an opportunity to attend.

Thanks for posting, but something is wrong.  You have 6 players tallying points, should only have 5. I will look at the list and make the correction.

Edit:

Since Xander was your alternate, you don’t get those points unless 1 of your others withdrew from the tournament.  So your total is 32.

Whoops. It's too early in the morning for me to do math correctly I guess. I missed the fact that he had points for 6 players. Thanks for the correction B Fish.

The weekend is complete, and given the format of the member guest the last day is really the only day that matters if you haven't shot your way out of it the first two days.  We were hanging tough on the last day, and then I went into a mental tailspin, through no fault of my own except for my inability to be mentally tough.  We were paired with a couple youngsters and this is how it started.

We start birdie/par.  Their cart is bumping what I can only describe (and I made this up) gangster country, it's loud.  And then god bless em, and weed is legal, they get a little overly tuned up.  So not only is Luke Bryan accosting our ears, three holes in they ask what they shot and what we shot (this was repeated a number of times over the round).  And, as they are incapable of stringing together coherent thoughts we are now 2 holes behind after 3 holes.  They had friends following us, and finally after 7 holes I told my partner, this is excruciating and I am going to drink and not focus on my play which as many know can have a benefit to my game.  I was 5 over on the front, 2 over on the back and I had 7 GIR but the misses weren't where they should have been so that was disappointing.

Now, I have painted a picture of Hades for all golf enthusiasts on this board, but I also have to say they were great kids.  Really nice, but just didn't get the assignment for the tournament and it wasn't my job to give them the assignment.  Decent golfers, but their music sucked and they can't handle their THC.  As I said to the pro who asked how it went after the end of it, knowing how it went because of the POP, "When my buddies get a little too stoned it's funny and endearing, but when someone I don't know really well goes into that morass it is frustrating."

Look at Pete playing his member guest with celebrities!  Do Cheech and Chong still count as celebrities?

... And this is always the issue, even for folks that absolutely love music. Art is subjective and bad art like "gangster country" should not be foisted on others. I play Acoustic 70's Rock, which really isn't acoustic but not Free Bird either. All my pards love it although I still keep it at a very low level that can't be heard from the tee or green. But as some youngsters that were listening to non country gangster rap once declared "I don't know how you can listen to that Boomer 💩. It has no base".  😂

Pete's story made me chuckle. Around 1 PM on Saturday I checked in 3 guests of a member. I'd say these guests were in their late 20's. I noticed two of them had a smart speaker hanging on their golf bags. I didn't say anything about them to them because I don't like to start any guests day at BFCC off with what I feel is a negative comment and that includes reminding guests that it's hat's off anywhere in the clubhouse. I feel that stuff is the policing job for the H Pro or one of his 6 assistants. I'm pretty sure the member who was hosting those guys told them about BFCC 's strict rule of no phone calls or music being played on the golf course. The use of your phone while playing is fine for checking emails, texting, or taking photos but your phone must be on silent.

Anyway back to the smart speakers hanging on the younger dudes bags...my mind went right too....grab my radio and...Copy golf staff....I've got the Hutchman guests bags coming around and 2 bags have smart speakers so heads up.

I'm well aware that many of today's under 35 year old males who play regularly are all about playing music and drinking plenty of alcohol during their rounds and that it's a far more popular way to play these days compared to when I was that age decades ago. I suspect many municipal courses will be or already are more lenient/tolerant of music on the course. I get it, I've witnessed the movement yes, but I won't play with anyone who insists on playing music while they golf. It takes away from my round and also distracts me. When playing 18 holes I want to listen to the sounds of the game and the sounds of being outdoors.

I've played the game for coming up on 50 years and have always cherished the old school "it's a gentleman's game" attitude because that's the way it's been during my golfing time and the way I want my remaining years of golf to continue to be. Is it really that tough to be mannerly and polite for 4 1/2 hours?

I've had to tell a couple of my playing partners to turn their phone on silent please because twice this season they received a call with a loud ring right in my backswing.

End of LP rant....he leaves the podium and then returns....

And one more thing, keep your shirt tucked in.

I’m a little more loose on a couple of those things.

I used to be die-hard anti-music, but I’ve changed my tune 😉. Here’s my decision tree on that one.

Playing in a group, event, or organized competitive game at prime time? I don’t like music and I have gotten over my reluctance to reject it. At my place we have no hard prohibition on music, but in this scenario it doesn’t come up often. The other members always ask and I’m fine saying no thank you.

Playing in a group or non competitive event in off hours? I still won’t offer it, but if someone asks (which at my place they always ask) again, I’m honest and I’ll ask “That totally depends on the DJ. What do you have in mind?” I am ok rejecting music I don’t like. My taste is very wide but what I don’t like I REALLY DON’T LIKE.

Playing with a buddy with similar tastes or with the missus? I probably play music 50% of the time. Never thought I’d get to like it….but surprisingly, I do.

The shirt tuck….if someone thought they just had to instruct me to tuck mine in when I’ve just carried my bag up the big hill after #6, they won’t like my response much. No one would ever do that at our place — we have plenty of de jure rules, but very few de facto. No one really cares as our club culture is a.) relaxed and b.) we don’t have the types where you give an inch and they take a mile. It’s just not a big deal. I tuck my shirt in before I get to the #1 box but if it happens to come untucked the 25th time I set my bag down, pick it back up, and scale a hill, no one is bothered by it.

I'm really tired of saying goodbye to friends.

Take a moment sometimes and tell your pals you love them. Might come a day you can't.

Very sorry. 😢

People who are important to you….tell them!

If you suspect someone important to you is not OK….ask them.

If you know someone important to you is not OK….help them get help!

You usually don’t get a second chance on these things.

97° on the course at the end of the round, but a strong wind off the lake kept it pleasant. Started out ok - kinda typical - and then went on a run of pars, including a closest to the pin $ hole, and finished +3 on the front. Had several good looks at birdie, but just couldn’t get them to drop. Doubled #10 and could tell that the short break didn’t help. Birdie looks became 1 putt par looks, and those weren’t dropping either. Took me few holes to get going again. I wasn’t nearly as consistent on the back and was +7 with a birdie and 2 doubles. So while I thought I had a good shot at breaking 80 after the front, I pretty much butchered the back. But I also hit some of my best shots so far this year, including 5h that had to get over a tall, mature oak only about 30 yards in front of me. I tend to hit that club with a lower trajectory, but got it up over the tree and landed the ball softly on the green.

The only picture I took was a par 3 where I thought I was right on the pin. As I walked up, I realized it wasn’t that impressive after all.

Even if not. I've been trying to make it a point to reach out to friends and be all "How ya doin? How's life? I love you for [all these reasons]."

Dudes, we clown each other a lot. It's just part of being a dude, right? We're supposed to be tough and resilient!

Just a "hello" means a lot. Bummer of a day.

97* beats my record hot round this summer by 4 degrees. Props sir for getting 18 in. Still looking green on the course for Texas in July.

Most of us in this group hit when we play a mixed bag of shots, some semi poor, some acceptable, and some damn good ones. Congrats TL on hitting some shots today that were in the "best of the year" category! 🏌️‍♂️

Yes, we’ve had much more rain this summer than normal, which has also kept the temps down, so most courses are in great shape. Hopefully, the conditions will hold up, as there’s no rain in for foreseeable future and it’s getting hot.

I think a lot of people do music 24/7... in the house, in the car, with earbuds, during a round of golf.  Sound effects or music to put us to sleep. I feel maybe those folks can't have silence in their brains... can't listen to their own inner thoughts, so there always needs to be background noise.  Just like always having the TV or radio on in the background.
