😁 I was hollering at it to not go in. Playing solo late Sunday afternoon and getting my first ace (started playing in 1989) would have been lame!

I know the rules, and the witnessing stuff but if you make an ace you made an ace.

Old story but I made an ace in Hawaii playing solo but the head pro was on the adjacent range and saw it happen, so he witnessed it and even ordered me the Titleist trophy.

Oh yeah. Our pro comes out to verify all of them, solo or not, and you better know your ball number or he won’t validate it. I just didn’t want my first ace to be by myself. No way! Not festive enough, but that’s as close as I’ve come since 2017 I think.

😁 Yeah mine wasn’t covering the pin. I hit a perfect 6h 25’ left of the pin. That all feeds down to the right there, it fed all right and damn near found the jar!

We checked out of Cadillac early Sunday morning and travelled southeast to the Novi area of Metro Detroit to spend a few hours with some friends who we haven't seen since our wedding 30 years ago.  They now live in very nice retirement complex and keep busy with various volunteer activities that keep them moving.  Great folks and it was wonderful to reconnect in person.

We then made our way into Ohio, staying south of Columbus in Lancaster where on Monday we played the Lancaster Golf Club.  Original 9 holes were built in 1909, redesigned in 1926 by some guy named Donald Ross, then in 1961 a second 9 was added.  Rolling farmland with plenty of blind shots, the course was both entertaining and frustrating.  Beautiful green lush rough was difficult, the greens were undulating and on the slow side and the bunkers, while groomed, were full of stones and pebbles.  For Mrs. NCL, the forward most tees were rated however they were simply marked in the fairway with a single green block.  She rarely had a tee box to herself and her lies were almost all unlevel.  The layout was fantastic and the course was in fine shape but looks aren't everything.

On Tuesday we returned home and have been settling in with the hot weather hounding us at every step...but tommorrow we are teeing it up at 8:30 AM in an attempt to play (and hopefully score) in the 80's!

... Still breaking bad habits from starting playing too soon after rehabbing my torn meniscus but it is starting to feel less mechanical and more like my golf swing. Just crazy how compensations form injury takes so much time to get out of the system. Even par today instead of +1 thanks to the 18th where I hit a really nice drive past the 30 somethings I was playing with. Pin tucked back right bringing the pond into play. I hit aimed 10 feet left of the hole and hit a nice 7 iron from 159 but pushed it just a little and a gust came up pushing it a little more and it landed right on the 2" wide brick top and bounced over the green. Thought for sure that was going in the water and I was left with a severe downhill chip to a green sloping away from me. Slid my 58* underneath and landed just on, trickled to the hole and dropped in. I should give Charley a call. 😎

It's an early start for me on this Monday. With the extreme heat wave effecting Asheville as well as the rest of the southeastern US I decided to get in an early practice session. I'm the first one here. Already I've done a bit of short game work and I'm ready to buy my large bucket once the range ball vending machine comes to life at 8 AM.

The reconstruction of the Broadmoor golf course (golf course was ruined by the floods caused by hurricane Helene) is progressing nicely with my great friend and golf buddy Jordon in charge of the project .

It's currently 73*  80% humidity with dew covered grass.

Today is just a practice day but tomorrow I'm playing with Bill and 2 of his golf buddies at Chestnut Mt.  We have a fairly early tee time. I bowed out of my regular Tuesday afternoon game at CC of AVL due to the temperatures climbing into the 90's this week.

This was a weekend of bachelorhood resulting in early nights and some stuff to do around the house on which I have been procrastinating.

What pray tell was I alone for?  The epic tour wrap up in Vegas was Saturday night so the wife, daughter, and best friend went to Vegas to catch it all.  Apparently it was all that and a bag of chips though the arrival of JayZ was a non-plus event.

Good morning, golfers!  It is still hot and humid here in SW MO with a predicted high of 94° today.  However, we have cooler weather coming on Wednesday, with highs in the 80's for several days.  I hope everyone has a great week.

Yesterday it was her fantastic bunker shot. Today it's Charley's swing in slow motion.

I always notice how the Pro's heads stay down and behind the ball until way after the arms and hands have passed the impact position. So many of us weekend players do not do this.

I had a decent practice session and due to it being not stifling hot I hit balls and practiced short game for 2 and 1/2 hours. I expect the time that I was out on the range this morning will help my game tomorrow.

... Good video and great observation LP. Taking it one step further, turning the upper body and head prematurely as an incorrect power source makes it impossible to release the club until well after impact so many hold on causing a weak fade or worse an outright slice. Some have learned to compensate by closing the face which then causes pulls and hooks. Casting can be the culprit but just as often it is trying to hit the ball with the shoulders/upper body that causes players to turn before impact.

Thank you and thanks for the elaboration coach.

That's me...often trying to hit the ball with my shoulders/upper body.

It occurred to me that not everyone watches the news.  It was the final show in Beyonce's Cowboy Carter tour and she had Destiny's Child come out (everyone was giddy), Shaboozy (I think that's his name came out and did the duet), and for a costume change JayZ came out and did some song.  But we do not like JayZ, none of us.  While the fans were going wild, apparently my wife just stood there arms folded... no smile.

I so wanted to grab a spy video of this older man's swing on the range this morning and show it to my Lounge mates but I couldn't get the right angle to take the video and also the thought kept coming to me that it wouldn't be correct for me to post his wild and wacky swing online without his permission. Let's see if I can describe in words what the man in the last hitting station on the end swing and appearance was like.

The guy was about 5'5". He was wearing heavy gauge blue jeans with a long sleeved shirt. He had on one of those sea going Mariner looking wide brim hats that had a long chin cord that keep getting in his way.

His stance - he was bent over so far that his hands on the club were at his knees and his back was almost parallel with the ground at address.

His swing - His first move was to drag his hands back quite low to the ground to about waist high. Mini pause. Then he lifted the club abruptly straight up to the sky as far as he could raise his arms. Second mini pause. Then he would finally turn his back to the target while dropping his hands behind this left ear (think Daly). I  swear they touched his left ear. On the downswing he threw his hands from the top casting badly and right at impact he fired his right hand over with mega force and kept the club head real low to the ground past impact. He also would let out a lengthy grunt with each shot that I could clearly hear 8 stations away. Most of his shots were thin cruisers that went 100 yards. My lord the old boy had more stops and starts and hitches and bends in a golf swing than I can ever remember seeing.

It was quite entertaining getting to watch Captain Smythe of the SS Sea Urchin smack some range balls this morning.

And you can always see it in the followthrough - usually accompanied by falling off balance towards the target.

Of course, it *IS* doable ... look at this old guy posted all straight up ...
