Good morning from Corvallis, OR.  Our hotel is across the street from Oregon State University.  We are off in search of waterfalls and cool sightseeing spots today.  Life is great!

*The photos from the coast were taken at Crescent Beach at Ecola State Park.  I almost forgot, we also saw whales off the coast at The Devil’s Punch Bowl State Park.

I'm going to recommend swinging through Oceanside, Oregon. Quaint little laid-back town with an excellent beach. My son and I went there for 14 years straight until he was 16. Sandcastle building, beach frisbee, tossin' o' the football, skimboarding, boogie boarding, fresh cioppino. We stayed in the same room perched on the cliff overlooking the beach in the same inn all those years

One year, when Wylie was older, we took golf balls and sand wedges. Practiced hitting from dry sand and wet sand. To this day I'm a better sand trap player for that experience.

In my DC years I had a friend-roommate-golf buddy that married a girl from Beaverton, Oregon that he met at grad school at Thunderbird. I was asked to be a groomsmen in his wedding. I spent an entire week in the Portland area. I had a dandy time and very much liked Portland. It reminded me a great deal of Asheville only it was much larger.

... The DBacks have completely imploded. Going from the highest scoring team before the AS game to the lowest scoring team after the break. 2 runs scored in 54 innings. 😱 They are pressing and trying too hard, which is natural but not much fun to watch. Eugenio in particular has struggled after the break and they have put runners in scoring position and then strike out or hit pop ups going 1-29. I think the DBacks weren't going to be able to afford his contract next year as he would have been a free agent so getting some highly rated relief pitchers and a 1st baseman they needed was a really good trade. 

... That said Suarez was so much fun to watch, a great team mate and everyone from players to coaches to the media and of course fans loved him. He will certainly be missed.

I knew a guy who had just bought some new Nike irons and was selling his TA 855s graphite shaft irons for real cheap so I snagged them from him.  Found them to be somewhat forgiving and when (if?) I hit the sweet spot the ball flew nicely.

I took them apart and put ferrules on them because Freddie had ferrules on his and I didn't like the no ferrule look. ... I know it can be really annoying for you guys but I really wish we could get some of that rain! Our Monsoon season has been a bust so far and no rain or any in the forecast. But last day of July and temps under 110* and that is always a nice bonus. Gonna play today and I think 15% humidity is just about ideal. When it gets to single digit humidity you can't get any sweat on your body to produce a little cool with the wind from the cart because it evaporates before it can form.

... It has been my experience that everywhere has their trade offs. Both for golf and life in general. As hot and uncomfortable as it gets here in summer, for me it is light years better than the freezing cold Chicago winters. I think I was a little spoiled growing up in Greensboro NC where the winters were mild (other than some devastating ice storms) and a nice moderate temp year round aside from July and then August when we had 4 a days in football training camp. 

... And spring rain in Chicago was brutal with courses closing for multiple days and I always wished I could live someplace with no rain. Haha careful what you wish for!

That could be the bag of a world class hustler if it weren’t for the Warrior hiding in the background. Never seen a player with that stuff near the bag. 

 

At Clemson, buddy and I got hustled by our Econ professor. 
 

He asked us if we wanted to go play that week. 
Shoot yeah, Walker Course had just opened, let’s go!

He rolls up with a cheapo bag, some Big Bertha wood clones called Large Marges 😂, and I don’t remember what else. 

We settle on two matches, Prof vs buddy, Prof vs me. He says if either of us beat him, we both get two free practice homework problem sets excused the remaining term. If he beats us both, we each have to do one extra problem set. Deal!

 

My buddy is a 4 or so and I was about a 6 so we are feeling confident. Prof is -2 thru the first 4 and he gets better and just beats the brakes off both of us. 🤣 I don’t recall exactly what he shot, I think he finished at -2 or -3. Turns out he was a full ride player at Wake Forest some time back and definitely kept all his game over the years.

Keen eye MS. 👍 When I was inappropriately rummaging through that guest's bag I laughed when I saw the Warrior fwy. It doesn't belong with the Ping, Cleveland, TAmour, Top Flite, Callaway, and Wilson sticks. 

 

What a great story. Thanks. Do you think the professor has another bag of clubs that were his true gamers and had the knockoff bag just for the purpose of hustling with ?

I got up early to beat the forecasted rain and practice in the 73-75 degree forecasted temps.  Got to the course at 9 and it was already 88.  Lying weather app!  Wish I had an extra towel than the 1 I use on my clubs.  Hopefully the weather app is more accurate going forward. High 70’s to low 80”s.
