Driver spin out of control

Mrgreen36

Recommended Posts

Running into some strange issues with driver spin numbers on the two trackmans at my local course.

Ball= RCT prov1

Driver= cobra ltdx ls 10.5 down to 9.5

Shaft= hzrdus yellow, im10 or evenflow riptide.  All produce same crazy #s

SS= 106 average

AoA= average 4 up.

Launch hovers around 13 to 14

Path= hovers around 2 from inside.

Face angle= 99% less than path so slightly closed.

I have seen spin #s up to 6500 rpm????

I can walk out to first tee box and hit my normal mid high flat ball that cuts a touch or slight draw. I'm fairly straight with a driver, nice draw with everything else.

All strikes today were literally center face.

What is going on?

I haven't had a chance to visit other place I go that also has trackmans, but I feel a better set up.

If this is in the wrong spot, I'm sorry. Feel free to move it

Yeah, if you were actually getting 6500, the ball would be rising like back in the persimmon days! Something is up with those numbers.

That's what it looked when I played my scramble league today.  I could one hop and stop a driver 210 yards every time. 😆

 Don't think it showed peak height in the limited tiles when playing but I think it experienced zero gravity at its peak.

Very bizarre. I played an LTDx LS for a few weeks at 10.5 with HZRDUS Yellow and it was nothing like that. I gave it to my son cause I didn't like the feel of the ball coming off the face.

I walked outside, pretty much same swing, normal ball flight and distance.

I’ve noticed the RCT balls to do some weird things with spin. Annoying when you spend that much for them.

Annoying when they were designed to give far more accurate spin numbers than balls without the RCT. They were literally supposed to be the solution to wonky TM spin numbers.

Was the spin number crazy and ball flight normal? Or were you actually seeing shots that had crazy extra spin to your normal shots?

Very similar shot shapes, just extremely high and very short.  Sometimes I have extra time, switch to the range and those crazy spin numbers come down to a reasonable 2500.

Both trackmans seem almost 2 clubs off on everything.

I said I wasn't going play indoor league this year, yet here I am.

What ball speed are you getting? Based on your driver that spin is close to physically impossible. I'm curious if you have a crack in the face that you may not be able to see.

155 is about average.

Last week it was 50 out when I got done, still getting odd #s the majority of that time. Grabbed a few decent balls from the barrel, walked out to tee box and hit 3 drives that went as how I expected them to.

I have an optical comparator, but I haven't found a good used xray machine yet. 😆

Sounds like the TM was inside.

Were you using the metallic dots on the ball?

How much room was there for the ball flight (distance from tee to impact screen)?

Any florescent lights in the room?

Is the LM used really a Trackman - or are you using that term in a more generic fashion to represent any launch monitor?

I know.  But clearly you don't know how many clueless people come here and say they got numbers off of a "Trackman" when they wouldn't know one if they tripped over it.

FY, the "minimum" 10 feet is not going to be enough room to get a the required  2 full rev's of the ball for your balls speed.

Try a non-rct ball with a metallic sticker.    The reliability of the rct balls can be suspect at times.

That amount of spin isn't making any sense to me. AoA 4* up with 14* launch at 106mph. Low heel strike with a flip wouldn't get up to 6500rpm, I'm at a loss. Where is your strike location?

I usually bring some foot spray so I know, this last time I was all center, center toe, nothing high nor low.

They are just over minimum dimensions.

I make sure to check those each time and calibrate target each time.

Only been one time this year things seemed reasonable.

Make sure the TM4 has the latest firmware update.  The last couple effect RCT readings.  Other than that, the only thing I can think of is the lighting.  TM4 is sensitive to the lighting set up indoors.  I can't recall the specific requirements. I just know the light switches to flip on or off where I practice indoors.  It's a tight space, at the minimum for TM4.  With the RCT balls, latest firmware and the correct lights on and off, I get accurate or very close to it spin readings.  It's at least close enough to my outdoor readings to not really notice a difference.  I have B.S. in the 160's and my son in the 170's with the driver.  At the minimum screen distance, that's a little short of 2 full revs but 2 revs or more, while ideal for accuracy, it's not an absolute.  I discussed this with TM when figuring out room layout (TM did the install).

I believe they were just updated. Mostly because my son will play the new putting game on it.  No clue on lighting though.

Spin still seems high on simulation, but I can get it down in the 2200 range on the range. Tried all 3 shafts I have, hzrdus yellow S 70g, hzrdus im10 xs -.25" and my Evenflow riptide 7x playing -.25"

Face impact was as close to center as I can be, a touch above middle. Got my AoA unto the 3 degree range, launch into the mid 12s, smash was 1.49, 107 SS 160 BS and spin numbers came into the 2k to 2500 region.   The im10 was hovering around 2k, yellow and riptide in 2300 range.

So some number studying, calibration and some changes got my to a nice slight fade with 270 carry #s.    So who knows. 😆

Almost warm enough to play outside.
