Any opinion on the gap wedge in Tour?

Ive been contemplating my setup (60, 56, 50 and Pw bent 45) as it creates some yardage difference. Initially I thought about putting my iron shaft in the 50 vokey but Il subcouciously swinging it out of my shoes.

My Vokey 50.08f digs when I need to to, will the tour gap wedge be able too aswell? That probaly put a new 50 at the 110 mark which is very comfy for me, not swinging hard to stretch it.

Getting the CB might be an option but dont want to mess with SWs, bounces or whatever that could mess the feel up.

It’s a great club I use it and then go 52 58 in MG4

I might reshaft my king tours and hybrids for my wife. She doesn’t golf, but wants to learn, and I think they are forgiving enough that she could learn on them.

Wouldn't it be a lot more cost effective to use the same money to reshaft/grip 7+ clubs than to just go find a used set that has the shafts she needs?  If all goes well and she learns/loves the game, she's probably going to be wanting something all her own anyway...LOL.  Save the Cobras for yourself!!!

Unless this is your justification to get a new set of CB/MBs.  If so, then disregard above.

That was the justification for me getting a whole new set of irons when I outgrew the px lz 5.5’s in my king tours 😆 … ended up with a 4-W 0317T set with DG 120 X100’s.

I kinda want to tinker with them since they aren’t getting much traction of FB and I can’t use the BST here yet. It’s a 3-5h Aerojet and 6-P king tour combo… worst case I’ll reshaft and fit them for me and make them my travel set for long tee time-able layovers. I really do love the king tour heads.

Are demand for these pretty low? I've had an almost new set of CB/MBs on the classifieds for cheap and not even a single lowball offer.   (I got another set with different shafts as my replacement.)

Resale value for anything Cobra is quite poor. It's unfortunate because they make great clubs.

Yeah, it doesn't help that Cobra themselves discount their 2nd generation clubs quite significantly compared to other OEMs.  From what I've seen, Cobra generally discounts 45% for prior year models

  • MIM irons went from $1099 to $599 once the KTs came out - 45.5% drop
  • Aerojet driver went from $549 to $299 once the Darkspeed came out - 45.5% drop
  • Aerojet fairway went from $329 to $199 - 39.5% drop

Taylormade on the other hand

  • 2021 P790s went from $1299 to $999 (when they were still available on TM website) - 23% drop
  • Stealth 2 driver went from $599 to $399 - 33% drop
  • Stealth 2 fairway went from $350 to $250 - 28.6% drop

Cobra isn't stupid...they aren't overly discounting their prices because they hate profits.  They have to discount more because there is simply lower demand for their clubs both for new release and 2nd generation.  So unfortunately for Cobra owners, we suffer from that same market dynamics where a very lightly used club or set has to be heavily discounted to attract a buyer.

On the flipside though, if you're in the market for lightly used cobra stuff...the prices are great.  Cobra CBs are the only cobra clubs I've bought that were not prior year model.  Everything else I've bought brand new prior generation for around 40-45% off original MSRP.

yup! I got my Aerojet driver and 3 wood for less than 400 nearly brand new. I don’t plan on switching those out for a while… definitely not the 3 wood, I smoke that thing, it’s arguably my favorite club… the driver however I’d like to get along with a bit better. They were just too good of a deal. Same with my 3-5h 6-p king tours I got. I may just restart them as a backup/travel set or a set for my wife. They are really really good clubs… I just don’t get along with hybrids compared to long irons. But a 3-5h and 6-p, a 56* and a putter could be a great, compact, travel set so I can play golf on the road.

I absolutely love the KING Tours - but the shorter irons had just a bit to much offset for me. Hit a lot of solid shots in the short irons (8-G) but they tended to go left of target, didn't have that issue with 4-7..... love those long irons in the KT. I am in the process of building a blended set with KT in 4-7 and CB in 8-P

Just built these up a few days ago, CB/MB flow set. Winter and tendonitis will keep me from getting them in play for a couple months 😪

Ordered a set of king tours 4-pw bent 2 weak about 2 weeks ago. Cant wait for them to get here. They seem very forgiving and consistent in the bay. I didn't think anything could kick the 923 tours out of the bag but I think these may do it.

Have you been able to hit them and compare the 2 yet? Curious how they play at 2 weak from a bounce standpoint.

The Cobra King CB is the best iron I have ever played plus it looks amazing, the Cobra irons with the black DBM finish look even better so I am very tempted to treat myself to a combo set with 4-5 King Tour and 6-PW King CB, I just read that Max Homa has been testing the Cobra King CB irons in Maui this week so hopefully he has a good tournament with them.

They are so sweet and top 5 best looking iron ever for me. May stay in the bag another year.

I have a fitting on Tuesday with the King Tours, I've casually hit them already and they're just what I'm looking for.  Moving on from my CB/MB combo.  Time for a little more forgiveness😁

How are these holding up in the bag? Still enjoying them. Currently have T150 like don’t love. Between King Tour black and Srixon ZXi7. Wanted to try to combo Tour and CB but might do all Tour??

FWIW my King Tours have been in the bag two seasons now (5-PW). Was in MP223s before.

they’re still dynamite. The mid irons in particular have been incredible. I will still try the ZXis etc but it will take a lot to push them out the bag. Feel, sound and dispersion all excellent. I wasn’t a Cobra guy before and still wouldn’t identify as one now!

Completely agree! I've had my 5-G set of Tours for a full year and couldn't be happier. I don't even have and itch to try out different irons. Feel, dispersion, height, spin...they do it all for me.

Went down to my local guy to check the cobra irons out. These things look great arguably the best looking iron out there. I didn’t get to try them out since it was busy and all the bays were taken up. But I see a combo set in the future King Tour 5-6 CB 7-PW black with black $taper 130 soft stepped or 120.
I would go full Tour but concerned about the strong loft of the Tour going to far. I like the idea of the forgiveness but not the added distance.
Hopefully in the next week or so I can get in the bay and get some numbers.

Played a Tour/CB set with $-Taper Black HT 🤤 all last year through this spring, but my ball striking was suffering so I got into T150s which were great while I worked through swing changes. Didn’t love the feel however so I’m temporarily in MP243 while I figure out my irons for this year. 243s are solid, but they just aren’t doing it for me. Fully intended to go Zxi5/7 combo, but with baby #2 due in a couple weeks I may grab a full set of King Tour Blacks, which should give me everything I’m looking for in looks, feel and forgiveness without any compromise.
