2023 Cobra King CB & Tour

Couple questions on the Tour here:

1. If I weaken the lofts 2 degrees is that going to effect the bounce significantly? I generally play player CB's with a bit thinner soles and less bounce. Think iBlade, zx7, T100 etc..

2. I got a set off of eBAY and the faces have 2 stickers. S and F. Im assuming this means Strong and Flat? (i know for a fact they are 1 degree flat)

Bounce is always on a 1:1 ratio.  Every degree of loft change results in a degree of bounce change.  Weaker lofts equals higher bounce, and vice versa.

As a side note, I wouldn't call the iBlade "less bounce."  🙂

Got it thanks.

And they may have the same bounce measurement but sole is definitely thinner, no?

Indeed, that's where the always lovely "effective bounce" discussion comes in.  Which is also especially relevant for the Srixon v-sole based irons; they have a very high bounce, but that portion of the sole is rather narrow.

Harder to measure effective bounce.  😐

Went down to my local guy to check the cobra irons out. These things look great arguably the best looking iron out there. I didn’t get to try them out since it was busy and all the bays were taken up. But I see a combo set in the future King Tour 5-6 CB 7-PW black with black $taper 130 soft stepped or 120.
I would go full Tour but concerned about the strong loft of the Tour going to far. I like the idea of the forgiveness but not the added distance.
Hopefully in the next week or so I can get in the bay and get some numbers.

Pulled the trigger black King Tour 5-6 CB 7-PW $taper black 130 soft stepped. These look and feel great.

I tried out the CB and the King Tours earlier this week. I hit both well, but I thought the feel on the King Tours was much better. I was astonished it not being a single piece forging. Ordered a set.

They look like an attractive option as they’re played on Tour as much or more than the CB MB and I thought they launched very easily.

Looking forward hitting these.

Put a 4-PW set of black King Tours in the bag this week. Scored a stock set with $-Taper 120 for a ridiculous deal.

BIG fan. The black hides the size really well. Not that they’re overly big to begin with, but there’s a noticeable difference (for me) when setting the black KT next to the chrome version.

I played T150’s this year, tinkered with P770/CB, Mp243, Zxi7, and the Tours won out. Hoping the honeymoon doesn’t wear off.

Hope I don’t regret going full tour instead of the Tour / CB combo I ordered

You won't. Like I said in another post, I had that same combo for a year, but moved out of it when my iron striking/swing was in a bad state. Even then it was still totally manageable, but I was mostly wanting to try some new stuff. If I had found a combo set in the black I would've jumped on it, but I have a baby due in less than two weeks so a full set of Tours made the most sense.

I did read that comment you had further back. In my fitting the CB felt great and hit it them beautifully. CB had more of a solid thud feeling and sound. Just worry on the off days if there was that much more forgiveness with the Tour.
Unfortunately we have many feet of snow here so I won’t be able to try them out anytime soon. I am not a fan of indoor sim golf. Limit full swings inside.

Played a Tour/CB set with $-Taper Black HT 🤤 all last year through this spring, but my ball striking was suffering so I got into T150s which were great while I worked through swing changes. Didn’t love the feel however so I’m temporarily in MP243 while I figure out my irons for this year. 243s are solid, but they just aren’t doing it for me. Fully intended to go Zxi5/7 combo, but with baby #2 due in a couple weeks I may grab a full set of King Tour Blacks, which should give me everything I’m looking for in looks, feel and forgiveness without any compromise.

I could not get along with the MP243s. They just didn’t work for me and I think they were just a little too hot off the face for me. I got a combo King CB/MB brand new for $699 and I could not be happier with the switch. They honestly feel softer than the mixups and just preform better for me.

I know I have read a lot where the Tours aren’t hot or distance irons and I am sure their engineers have taken everything into consideration when designing the irons to account for this but with the PW being 44 degrees and faster swing speed, lower handicap players find that they are longer than say ZX7’s, T100’s the CB’s etc.?

The players distance I had were Mizuno 225s and they were also a 44 degree PW. Their PW was forged and then 8i and longer were techy and the lofts got stronger and stronger.

I don’t think I’d worry about their lofts that much. Cool clubs said their spin is great, and if you look at the Cobra staffers. I bet more play the KTs than the CB/MB.

I found the King Tour to be pretty fast for its compact head size and it gave me faster ball speeds and an 7-8 yards extra carry distance compared to the King CB, T100 and other similar irons although it wasn't quite an apples to apples comparison because not all these irons had the exact same shaft, the King Tour should produce ball speeds closer to the T150 I would say.

Ordered a set of king tours 4-pw bent 2 weak about 2 weeks ago. Cant wait for them to get here. They seem very forgiving and consistent in the bay. I didn't think anything could kick the 923 tours out of the bag but I think these may do it.

do you have any pictures of these from address after you had them bent weak?

My take is the opposite.  I think we should all ignore the club numbers and *only* pay attention to the lofts.  It's loft that moves the shot for each player, not the name given to the club.

ahh. I get that too.  I just figure if I stick to one set I just know what the number on the bottom means in yardage whether it says 7i or 28/30/32.

I used to switch irons a lot.  I found it got pretty easy.  Had to think a bit going between sets that followed old school 3° gaps in the long irons and other sets where I went 4° gaps throughout, but it wasn't too tough.

The tours don’t create anymore ball speed loft for loft than they irons you mentions.  Depending on how you deliver them, spin and height is going to determine the carry.

for me being a medium to high spin and higher speed player the king tours fly around the same distance as any other traditional cb. I currently play tcbs and the king tours carry’s about the same distance, but launches and apex’s just a touch higher

the t100 flys to shortest as they spin the most due to the low effective cg.  The zx7 are the longest by a half a club to full club (7 iron sometimes would fly 195) due to them spinning the lowest by far.

Who here has had extensive play with the CB/MB flow set? I am considering this as an option. The $ Taper was a good shaft in my iron fitting a few months back and I just never decided on ordering anything with that shaft.

I have MB GW and PW as well as CB GW/PW (which I game) The MB's felt quite forgiving for a blade (they are slightly larger than other OEM blades) but I decided to stick with the CB's because I didn't notice much of a feel difference and while I didn't notice a performance difference the CB's theoretically should be slightly more forgiving.

I agree.  Had flow set and saw zero forgiveness benefits over the blade.  I actually felt like the cb 4 and 5 spun too much making gaping bad.  Sold the cb and filled out the set with MBs gapping issue resolved.

king tour is the way to go if you want a combo set with the cb or mb.
